As an avid cruiser with over a dozen cruises under my belt, I've sailed with a variety of cruise lines including Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Carnival, and NCL. My cruising adventures took place primarily between 2001 and 2012, with one additional cruise in 2016. When my children grew older and lost interest in cruising, I ventured into solo cruising and took my first solo trip with Virgin Voyages ...
We found a good deal on this 7 day Western itinerary and the following 7 day Southern itinerary, so we booked a B2B. We have sailed on 7 HAL ships but this was the first time on Nieuw Statendam.
Overall first impression was a clean ship, well maintained and modestly modern decor. Our cabin had USB ports, individual reading lights and room light switches by the beds, a nice lighted mirror and ...
November 27 to December 4th
This was my 5th time on this ship. 3 times on the LRBC chartered cruise, once with my elderly MIL and this time with a friend.
Normally HAL is never my go to cruise line. The last two times are because my MIL is a long time HAL cruiser (she is 91 now) and my friend is 4* HAL.
Embarkation was a breeze. The ship apparently only had 1500 on this sailing. It was ...
This was the worst cruise I have ever been on, Holland ruined a once in a lifetime experience. Poor communication prior to the cruise: yellow fever issues, requiring a covid test for boarding that was NEVER looked at upon embarkation, telling us to use the verifly app that also did not allow us easy boarding~ never used. A 2+ hour embarkation process. Holland made a big deal NO PLASTIC water ...
We're past HA Cruisers. We have 15+ cruises that we've enjoyed. Everything was really good about his cruise except 3 things.
1. The boarding process was a cattle car. 1500 or so people stuck in a terminal in Ft. Lauderdale with room for 800 to sit. And it took forever to get all the groups aboard.
2. The internet speed.
3. The internet being down far too often.
This is 2023, not 1999. ...
Just returned last Sunday (NOV. 20th) from Caribbean cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam on 14 days of the worst HAL cruise that we ever experienced. With more than 400 days on HAL ships and having sailed on this ship twice before, we never experienced anything remotely like this. In fact it was one of the worst cruises ever on any line including Carnival which can be inconsistent at best. Apparently in an ...
This was our 20th anniversary cruise, and we did back-to-back 7 day cruises (western/eastern Caribbean).
We are 3-star Mariners on HAL, and this was our 3rd trip since Covid hit. Compared to the last two post-covid trips, this was a good improvement. We started getting towel animals again (a simple add but delightful), they had some fresh flowers on board (prior two cruises they were mostly ...
A cruise is usually fun and this was no exception BUT, Holland has changed and not for the better. We had 160 days on HAL prior to the pandemic so we were pretty familiar with the line and this ship.
The room was the room and it was fine as usual, it could use a little maintenance as things are starting to look a little tired but still a minor concern, the steward did a good job and the room ...
First time HAL cruisers, historically book Celebrity.
Cruise started off a bit rocky with the Airline delaying the bag with my wife's clothing. HAL was great and worked with the airline to eventually have the bag catch up in Grand Cayman. Porsha from Guest Services and our cabin stewards (Madey and Firman) put in extra effort to make my wife as comfortable as possible until her things ...
I've been cruising for 4 decades. This was my first on Holland America. The ship is absolutely beautiful and the crew is excellent. My cabin steward remembered my name from the moment we met and always greeted me by name in the hallways. The ship itself is gorgeous. The music theme is evident throughout and there are many opportunities to hear live music. The show theater and performers were ...
