Happy Holidays from Rome - a transatlantic experience

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Nieuw Statendam

The Nieuw Statendam just came out of dry dock, so this was an opportunity to see what a newish ship was like as well as a transatlantic; the holiday time sailing was an added bonus. The dates allowed us to spend some time in Rome before departure, so we were able to do a land cruise. Returning to FLL helped minimize flight costs. The food was overall very good; Club Orange dining room service ...

Enjoyable Transatlantic Cruise

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Oosterdam

We chose this cruise because a Transatlantic cruise has been on our bucket list, we liked the itinerary, and we had two previous enjoyable cruises on HAL (one on Oosterdam and one on Zaandam). We have been fortunate that all three HAL cruises have been in a Neptune Suite, which is a special experience. This cruise didn't go as planned, because a large storm caused an itinerary change. We had ...

Not Quite Epic, But Worthwhile

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Zuiderdam

As one of Holland America’s Legendary Cruises (and also as one of the most expensive), the Voyage of the Vikings on the Zuiderdam, which sailed July 22-August 26, 2023, should have been nothing short of epic. It fell short of that goal, but was still very good and certainly worthwhile. This review will cover the good things we experienced, as well as the not-so-good things. THE GOOD ...

Smooth crossing, interesting ports, music walk entertainment was lacking.

This was our 6th HAL cruise. Our interest in this crossing was sparked by the interesting ports (Cork, Waterford, Torquay, and Dover) in Ireland and the UK. Our cabin stewards (Rio and Ewan) were phenomenal and kept the cabin in perfect shape. They are assigned approximately 35 cabins to take care of by HAL which is an unreasonable workload. We had great dinner and lunch in the Pinnacle Grill with ...

150 Years Transatlantic Voyage

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Holland America Rotterdam

Setting off for New York from Rotterdam on the new Rotterdam ship was exciting as we were accompanied by other boats and ferries and ships horns. But I don’t think this happens on every cruise. There were several passengers with Covid who had disembarked from the previous cruise, which meant that boarding had been delayed due to an extensive cleaning on arrival in Rotterdam. Assigned boarding was ...

Beautiful 150th Anniversary Transatlantic Cruise on Rotterdam.

We had the most beautiful sail away from Rotterdam Netherlands. Absolutely fantastic and one of my top ones! We had a beautiful balcony cabin on Navigation deck for the views. The ship is absolutely beautiful and the right size for us. We really enjoyed the food in MDR. Cocktails in most bars were again top notch except for Oceanview Bar which were many times hit or miss. We went to Pinnacle Grill ...

Beautiful Ship, Great Room. Wish There Were More Sea Days

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Nieuw Statendam

I booked this cruise (along with the preceding 10 day cruise to Scandinavia and Germany) one month before boarding. It was a fabulous price so we decided to go for it even though we had to fly to Copenhagen from Hawaii, and had to take the Covid 19 test in Copenhagen a couple of days before boarding. We are 4 star Mariners and this was our 10th cruise on HAL, our first in 4 years. Overall, I ...

Ships are having a tough time

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Eurodam

Love crossings. But, hate masks. Also, many cabin issues (toilet overflowed, shower flooded bathroom, water from shower saturated carpet outside door, etc). Were given $200 room credit but on next to last day and had to spend onboard. Crew, as always, was amazing. Of everyone I encountered, only one clerk in the shops could stand a better attitude. EVERYONE else was helpful. Lido personnel ...

Rotterdam Maiden Voyage Amsterdam Fort Lauderdale

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Holland America Rotterdam

This is a new ship, so there is still plenty to adjust… Also, staff has been off for quite a while and needs to get back into rythm. There does not seem to be enough supervision of staff. Just to give you and idea: We check our on-board statement every day and we keep on being overcharged, or charged for things we did not do or consume. Somehow the mistakes are never in our favor. ...

Beautiful Ship and Excellent Crew

We were so happy to be on this Transatlantic cruise from Amsterdam to Ft. Lauderdale. It was the first ocean crossing for this new ship. The ship is beautiful and with only 909 passengers, we were pampered by the attentive staff. Weather prohibited stops at Brugges and the Azores so we had 9 full days of sea time. It was relaxing and we enjoyed every minute. The food was plenty as were the ...
