I am a lowly two-star mariner, but know the ropes of HAL cruising and had been going to the specialty restaurants to reduce my meals in the MDR on past cruises. After reading so much about HAL's cost-cutting measures I thought I'd be disappointed with my meals, but instead was pleasantly surprised. ...
I was attracted to the itinerary which had 9 ports: Singapore, Thailand [2], Cambodia [1], Vietnam [4] and Hong Kong. The voyage was 16 days: January 16 - February 1, 2018.
This would normally be the dry season for southeast Asia but at least half the days were overcast but fortunately with minimal rain. Our veranda stateroom was roomy with recently updated bathroom with high quality ...
My husband and I chose this cruise because we have never been to Asia and thought it would be a great addition to cruises we have already taken.
We were not disappointed. The ports were well worth seeing and the educational component was beyond our wildest dreams.
The Volendam is a mid sized ship and had a refit in December, 2017. The dining was wonderful. Crew = as always - were amazing. ...
We chose this 28 day back to back for the itinerary. Overall, the cruise was good but not outstanding in any aspect really. The ship had just come out of another dry dock. It still looks aged in many areas but is very clean.
The public areas were kept clean and polished. The crow's nest is a nice place to relax, especially during the daily happy hour. The daily team trivia was in the ...
Second time with HAL, we were concerned about the length of the voyage at 28 days. But at the end, 28 days journey has gone by fast. We find this is one of the more enjoyable trips we experienced. The itinerary was good, there is enough at sea time to rest up, especially traveling in warm weather regions. During the voyage,
HAL has a very good program on excursion and shore activities by the ...
The Volendam is a lovely medium sized ship. The staff are excellent extremely friendly and efficient. Food was very good both in the restaurant and in the Lido. My cabin 3331 was spacious with plenty of wardrobe space for a ship.It was spotlessly clean and our cabin steward was excellent. It was an Oceanview with a large window.
The destinations were all very exciting. Embarkation and ...
It was reasonably priced. No air conditioning for the first 6 days, and not of a great concern to the staff. A lot of rooms also had flooding, but ours didn’t. As it was, both my travel mate and Myself became quite ill with my friend going to the clinic for IV therapy. As a matter of fact, many people ended up being sick. Poor food and service both in the dining room and Lido.
I contacted ...
We had never sailed on HA and had heard good things about this cruise line, so when a Dec cruise to Asia came up with ports we had never been to but wanted to see, we jumped at the chance to be a part of this experience.
First off, the crew and staff for the most part were great - very friendly, helpful and accommodating. In addition to the destinations, they were the best part of the ...
We chose this cruise because we wanted to sample Asia and picked Holland America as this was the most extensive itinerary. Unfortunately we did not believe we would be sacrificing the quality of our holiday. The cabin was not clean. No remote control for the TV. DVD player not working. No air conditioning for over a week. Basic soaps and bathroom supplies were missing. Then we have a major flood ...
For many passengers this was a cruise from hell. The following are most of the problems I was told by fellow passengers-- lots of problems-flooded rooms, pipes breaking, toilets overflowing or not working, water leaking from ceiling in dining room, lower promenade deck even number cabin side with bad smells, air conditioning not working.
I was fortunate that my cabin did not experience any of ...
