We had never cruised before. This was a new experience for us and every person we spoke to stated how wonderful it was. The room was small we had an interior on deck 7. Food was very good. We did not have issue at onboarding but tip for newbies, if it says you can board at 1pm don't wait that long we got there at 11am and it was full on its way to boarding. We got Verify done but the Arrive Can ...

We selected this cruise based on the itinerary (ports) as well as cabin availability. This was also a last minute booking which was finalized only 6 weeks ago. We were reluctant to cruise on ships offering "unlimited alcohol" etc. It is true Holland America may be considered a little older in age range of the passengers, however there were plenty of younger aged passengers enjoying themselves and ...

Great Welcome Back to Cruising

First a little background. We have cruised many times and sail with various mainstream cruise lines, although Holland America has come to be our favorite. We were really missing being at sea and were excited when we heard that Holland America would resume sailing in Alaska. Of course, we were also nervous about mask and test requirements and just in general nervous about getting out there ...

This was the second sailing out of Greece after an 18 month shutdown, so we decided to jump on board. The ship is beautifully maintained with great venues. We especially enjoyed the BB King Blues Club with the BB King All Star Band. This band could play anything. Each night was a different theme like Mo Town, Pop, Rock N Roll and so on. We did stop by the Bill Board on Broadway and enjoyed the ...

We live in Seattle and have always wanted to go on an Alaska cruise, but for some reason we hadn't been there yet. The easy part is that we didn't have to fly anyplace! We found everything about our experience to be wonderful. From ease of embarkation, our room (deck 6, port side, mid-ship). The meal in the Pinnacle Grill was excellent; our lasagna in Canaletto was probably the best we have ...

HAL Nieuw Amsterdam – August 2021 – Alaska Cruise Review Cabin – V Class Overview: This cruise was a seven-day out and back Alaska cruise from Seattle. Because of the temporary suspension of the PVSA (Passenger Vessel Services Act) due to Covid there was no stop in Vancouver, which we appreciated since it meant that the final night on board was not spent in a port with an empty ship but ...

This was the first HAL cruise since the start of the pandemic and everyone onboard was super excited to be there. As can be expected after a 16 month pause in operations, there were a few minor glitches but overall it was a fantastic cruise. This was our first time on HAL and we chose a Neptune Suite. It was a beautiful and functional stateroom with plenty of room to relax and a big verandah ...

Very comfortable Alaskan cruise

We were a party of four (my wife and I and my brother and his wife, all late 60’s early 70’s) and we booked Neptune suites on either side (port and starboard) of the Neptune Lounge entrance. That way you don’t miss any views and one side always gets the sun. However, if you have to pick one side starboard is better as you spend more time on the veranda coming back. The weather was mostly very ...

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Oosterdam

First review on cruise critic prompted by reading so many negative reviews on this forum. We sailed on the Oosterdam in May and again in September 2019. Loved it so much will probably sail the same trip again in 2020. I think the key to understanding what cruise line to choose is research. Party animal? Active kids? Love raucous crowds? Holland America is not for you. We love quiet. ...
