We chose this cruise to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Admittedly, we're neophytes to this mode of transportation-entertainment. Our only other cruising experience had come as many years earlier - a wedding gift from my mom. Southeast Alaska is spectacularly beautiful, isolated and arguably best visited by ship. Had good luck with Holland in the past. We got cabin 4174, on the stern above the dining area. Leaving Seattle the noise in the cabin was deafening, a constant pounding, very loud. I've cruised 20+ times; three to Alaska...unfortunately twice on Holland. I selected this cruise (knowing I might be disappointed with some things) because it was when I wanted to go (before summer), with the itinerary I preferred (Sitka instead of Skagway) and at a reasonable solo price (because I was in the line's Mariner Society).

The "Beautiful and Elegant Westerdam" is average at best. It's a great budget friendly cruise to Alaska but as far at the "cruise" experience... MEH has been a great description used by other travelers.

We flew to Seattle and rode the Link Light Rail directly from the airport to the last stop (Westlake Center) downtown for $3 per person. We stayed at the Homewood Suites/Convention Center which is about 5 block from the Westlake center - uphill with luggage, but fine.
