What I didn't know about cruising

Review for a Alaska Cruise on Westerdam

Purchasing the cruise- did it all online just follow the clicks and pay what you can when you can as long as paid in full by designated date. Didn't need to leave home or call anyone! Too bad they won't give you the travel agent percentage as a discount when you book yourself, but I understand the reasons. ID - for Alaska, Enhanced Drivers License is simple and cheap if you live in a state ...

Just returned from a 7 day cruise to Alaska. This was our second Alaskan Cruise aboard a Holland America Ship. I was happy with our cruise experience in every area. The service was beyond 5 stars. I love the wood decks and wood chairs on Holland America, old time elegance. There are wool blankets to use on the decks and in Glacier Bay we were served hot split pea soup. The Pinnacle Grill was ...

We had cruised previously with HAL on a 12 day cruisetour and had issues with HAL but thought we would give it one more try. This itinerary was the one we wanted and we got a good price. The Westerdam is a much better ship than the Volendam was 2 years ago. (Hopefully they have read the reviews on the Volendam and have updated it!) Embarkation: late, we were told as Mariner members to come ...

A Great Alaskan Family Cruise

Spending winters 20 minutes away from Port Everglades has enabled me to take many last minute cruises at very attractive prices. Call me on Wednesday and tell me there is an opening for a Saturday departure and I'm there! At the urging of several friends who still are tied to a work schedule and who wanted to join me on one of these cruises, I planned an Eastern Caribbean cruise on Holland ...

Background: My husband and I (Forty-something) took my in-laws (Seventies)on an Alaskan Cruise for their 50th Wedding Anniversary. We sailed round trip to Seattle and stopped in Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchican and Victoria, BC. We Flew into Seattle on Friday and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Lake Union. It was an average hotel. Very clean. My in-laws could not walk very far so ...

Pre-Cruise: Flew in on Thursday afternoon and got to enjoy some truly amazing weather in Seattle along with some of Seattle's sites. We stayed at The Paramount, which was great. It was reasonably priced (given its location) and is close to all of Seattle's attractions downtown. Embarkation: We pulled up to Pier 91, a porter helped us with our luggage and within 25 minutes we were boarding the ...

I May Never Cruise Again

There is a reason I don't drink alcohol, I don't like the hangover the next day. If there is a reason I don't like cruising, it is because the feeling I had after leaving the ship. I drove home after the cruise and was struck by the rudeness of other drivers on the road. Where was the politeness that I experienced for a week? I'm just glad I didn't have to deal with airport TSA. When I got ...

This is our 4th cruise with Holland America, and the second on the Westerdam. My sister and I travel together, she had a ocean view room and I had a verandah room. We flew into Seattle 2 days before and stayed at the Fairmont Olympic hotel. Wonderful "old world" hotel with excellent service, comfortable beds and great atmosphere. Seattle is a wonderful city. Thank you "Tours Northwest" for ...

Before I officially begin my review, I should set the stage a bit... I have cruised 5 times before, mostly to the Caribbean. I feel like I know what to expect based on my experience. My wife and I decided to take a cruise to Alaska for two reasons: we live closer to Alaska now than when we last cruised and we have always wanted to check out the inside passage. We booked a category VF and were ...

We had our first cruise 2 years ago on the Emerald Princess and thoroughly enjoyed a 10 day Caribbean Medley. This Alaskan cruise was organized as a surprise Christmas present from my husband, as Alaska had been on my wish list for 30 years. He chose Holland America primarily as it had a Culinary Arts program on board. This, coupled with a good price and full day in Glacier Bay made the Westerdam ...
