We chose this cruise because we didn't feel up to going to Europe this year. Never having been to Alaska, we felt that the three-hour flight to Seattle wouldn't be too taxing and then a leisurely, relaxing cruise of seven days with no jet lag would be just the ticket. We opted for Holland America to assign our rooms and when, the week before, we were assigned Room we were at first happy. Back of ...
Friends invited us to join them on a cruise to Alaska. I've never been on a cruise before and was really nervous about being on the water. It was perfect weather for t shirts and shorts the entire trip. We went to Juneau, Sitka, etc. We saw whales, black bears, sea otters, seals, eagles and lots of seagulls. There were very few vegan or plant based options. Only almond milk as a non dairy ...
Holland America use to have the best service and food that you could want. It has been downgraded so much it is sad. Now only the service remains a plus. That is by the crew, not necessarily the officers. The food is mediocre, the organization is lacking and just about everything has been downgraded. I am a 4 star mariner and have happily cruised many times with Holland America. It is sad to ...
As a three-star Mariner, I was really looking forward to my first post-Covid journey ... 20 days, from Vancouver BC through the Panama Canal to Fort Lauderdale ...but this is the lowest rating I have ever given a HAL cruise.
The Eurodam is a beautiful, subdued-toned traditional cruise ship, with comfortably furnished public areas and lounges : the garish neon reserved for the casino. There are ...
We got a deal on this cruise because they canceled their Tokyo/Vancouver cruise in 2020 because of Covid. The deal was a $750 credit for both of us plus beverage package. The cruise was actually 9/25 to 10/2/2022 round trip from Seattle. (The transpacific crossing in this review heading was actually the following week from 10/2 to?? but Cruise Critic was a bit off.) The $750 deal expired ...
My husband and I chose this cruise to mark one of our dreams off our bucket list. We are in our late 50s and definitely felt like youngsters on this cruise. The service was fantastic and our Veranda room was nice. Food was the same inside the "buffet" as the dining room. Every day it was nearly the exact same menu with the exception of meats, soups and desserts. Delicious egg rolls and chicken ...
My only real complaint was the lack of any real activity for the kids. The loft was only open 1 time per day, at 10 pm. My kids were bored because all the other stuff HAL has is more geared to seniors. I love cruising HAL for this, because it tends to be more laid back, but for this cruise it was a giant drawback. As far as entertainment, Carlos was a superstar. The various gameshows and ...
I choose this cruise for the itinerary. We loved our suite except for the terrible bed.
All of the staff on board were so happy to be back. The food was not up to Holland's standards. no cream for our coffee, very poor quality beef, The only really good meal was in Rudy's Sel de Mer and Tamarind. I do have to say that staffing is still an issue for the cruise line. This could explain some of ...
We chose this cruise so we could burn our future cruise credits from a Baltic Sea cruise that did not sail in April/May 2020. We unfortunately were denied a full refund of our fare. HAL held 50% on a Neptune Suite. When they put the Baltic Sea cruise back in the schedule for 2022, they did not contact us. We had to contact them only to be told the price had increased almost 3x and the would not ...
THE GOOD: Very efficient at embarking and disembarking passengers smoothly. Smiley, welcoming and attentive staff. Very clean and comfortable stateroom. Good entertainment (we watched the dancers). Several choices of bars and lounges, all with excellent service. Pretty good food.
NOT SO GOOD: I couldn't help compare this ship with the one I sailed on 20 years ago. It was nothing like ...
