This was our first time cruising with Holland and our first Alaskan cruise. All of our previous cruises had been to the Caribbean with two different cruise lines. The Westerdam may not be as glitzy as some of the newer ships but she is well maintained and lovely.
From the moment of embarkation to the final debarkation our experience with Holland America and the staff on the Westerdam was ...
Over three hours standing in three line to embark ship. Slow service at windows to get our boarding passes. Was told that is to be expected for the first cruise of the season. Super staff on this ship! Vista Dining was an excellent experience with staff members Rein, Roni, and our room attendant TeGeau. Don't bother with Lido Buffet dining. Nice Mariner society brunch with Captain Rens Van Eerten ...
First Holkand cruise and first cruise of the season. Embarkation was a nightmare!!! No one would acknowledge our "Priority" boarding. Once we got up to get cruise cards we were escorted onto the ship as we upgraded a few days before we left to a Neptune Suite, we were on a wait list for one.
The ship is old world elegance, beautiful art throughout. A small ship, easy to get around. Loved ...
The crew was fabulous, so kind and helpful in every aspect. We had awesome weather. We flew into Seattle and took their transfer bus to the pier. That was nice because we didn't have to deal with our luggage after the airport. We got to the pier at 1:30 and didn't get on the ship until 3pm. There was a line that you waited in to go up an escalator, then another line to go through security and ...
We were on the May 2-9, 2015 Alaska cruise which was the first Alaska cruise of 2015 for this ship. We were also the first ship to dock in Juneau; the first ship to cruise Glacier Bay; the first ship to dock in Sitka and the first cruise to Alaska for DH and I. This was also the first time we had a verandah stateroom.
Embarkation--After staying overnight at the Hotel Vintage in Seattle, we ...
This was our first cruise to Alaska and our first cruise on HAL. Over all it was a wonderful experience, one that I will never forget. We cruised out of Seattle. Flew in the day before. We used a taxi service to get to the hotel. We were at hotel, downtown Seattle, checked in, bags dropped off by 11:15 am. W stayed at the Grand Hyatt and had a very good stay. The hotel is about 6 blooms from ...
We chose this one-night cruise on the Westerdam in order to get from Seattle to Vancouver to board a longer cruise the next day. It was a fantastic experience. I had read some negative things about one-night cruises before, but none of that applied here. The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, the ship was elegant and pristinely clean.
The only unexpected thing was that they ...
We had a wonderful Alaskan experience on the Westerdam. I was concerned about the weather the first full week in September, but the weather was near perfect. Seattle, Victoria, Juneau, Glacier Bay, and even Sitka were sunny days. Ketchikan was cloudy, but no rain. The mountain reflections in Glacier Bay were near perfect.
I was concerned about the food and dining. The menus were a little ...
We cruised on the Westerdam in late August to Alaska – our 17th cruise overall, 5th on Holland America. It was a good cruise – ship was fine but the weather was cloudy and rainy with fog in many areas. This was our 3rd Alaska cruise – the other two were in June and weather was much better. Here are some details from our trip:
EMBARK: We stayed in Seattle 2 days before the cruise to sightsee - it ...
This is my 3 rd sailing to Alaska but first time with HAL on this route. Having done several other cruises also to Europe with HAL and other lines I find myself comparing. My husband and I felt that the overall experience was pleasant. The crew were always smiling and obliging, even when dealing with some demanding passengers!
This was our first time visiting Sitka and we felt it was the ...
