HAL Nieuw Amsterdam – August 2021 – Alaska Cruise Review
Cabin – V Class
Overview:
This cruise was a seven-day out and back Alaska cruise from Seattle. Because of the temporary suspension of the PVSA (Passenger Vessel Services Act) due to Covid there was no stop in Vancouver, which we appreciated since it meant that the final night on board was not spent in a port with an empty ship but ...
This was the first HAL cruise since the start of the pandemic and everyone onboard was super excited to be there. As can be expected after a 16 month pause in operations, there were a few minor glitches but overall it was a fantastic cruise.
This was our first time on HAL and we chose a Neptune Suite. It was a beautiful and functional stateroom with plenty of room to relax and a big verandah ...

Late offering where and when we wanted to go, seemed like a winner, but food options not fitting our schedule. Formal dining each night at 8 pm was fabulous but prevented time to get to a y shows.
And the lido banquet closed completely each morning for way too long, and long lines late morning at other food places made it tough for us to get a bit of breakfast.
Ludo buffet always had a sign ...
We always wanted to transit the Panama Canal, and HL's Eurodam did it. To my wife and I it was all about cruising with close friends of some 60 years. The ship was very nice indeed, the crew was wonderful, and the food great. Plenty of "private" spaces on the ship to read, and have a drink. For me the photography classes by Justin James were truly the best, made the cruise even more enjoyable, and ...
We stayed in a hotel in Plantation the night before our cruise. Hotel accommodations were difficult to get because of the annual boat show being held at the same time. We took an Uber from the hotel to the ship. The cost was about $18 and the ride took about twenty minutes. The car was at our hotel within 10 minutes of our request. The embarkation process was pretty easy and all told, we were in ...
This will be a short review of a short but nearly perfect cruise. The ship was in excellent shape. The art wasn’t even bad! The food was the best I’ve had in several cruises. The service was excellent. Room stewards Suri and Erna were perfect and waiters Subi and Dylan were fast and pleasant. The walking deck was lovely. These are the things that matter to me and this ship got them all ...
We are a couple in our mid 60s who decided to cruise after a 12 year hiatus. We liked the itinerary and got a good deal on the airfare even though it was Super Bowl Sunday morning. The embarkation was delayed due to some sanitation issues supposedly caused by an uptick Norovirus illness on the previous cruise. The boarding time varied depending on which HAL rep you spoke to, but after a lengthy ...
At the start of this year, I left for The United States of America, to board the Koningsdam in Fort Lauderdale. Florida. I was excited! It was the first holiday without my parents present, and I was going far, far away. When I boarded the ship, I was flabbergasted. It was HUGE. And beautiful. In a couple of minutes I felt a sensation that I never ever sensed before. I felt like: this is where I ...
