I have been on several HAL cruises before and really felt like this was my cruise line. One thing Eurodam had that I loved was their library. It was expanded quite alot and had very current authors and books. I and other passengers loved this amenity.

We chose this cruise to relax with family members 1 year before the cruise, who knew how bad we would need it. Embarkation was well organized and quick at Ft Lauderdale, under 30 mins from the time we dropped off out luggage to the time we were in our cabin! This was a 14 day Panama Canal journey from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale. Zaandam is a smaller ship and doesn't have a lot of "bells and whistles" but has a lot to offer. Passengers were on the older side and only 14 or so children on board. Staff and crew were excellent. Never a long wait for a drink or to get something from the Lido buffet.

Chose this ship for the itinerary. Big mistake. Dated in all ways.So lacking in accessible features I can't believe it's ADA compliant. They are carrying wheelchair guests off the ship by hand. In the tiny casino you may earn enough points to qualify for free drinks while playing. But....
Good luck finding a server. Few activities on seadays. You are expected to amuse yourself.

Over 25 cruises, several on HAL. We find the HAL product much diminished. Menus downgraded, although the food was better than an October cruise. Same menu every sea day for lunch. Chose this cruise for the itinerary but loved it. Definitely an older person cruise. We were a group of 30-40 to with a toddler (one of 3 onboard) and even without the toddler were half the average age. We loved the ports. We had a Signature Suite, therefore, we embarked first and had to go to the 9th floor deck for lunch buffet. You are not allowed to select your own foods,you are served by the personal. The buffet had a lot of choices; including ice cream and desserts.

We chose this cruise because we wanted a January getaway to warmer climes than included the Caribbean with a focus on the Panama Canal. We booked early when this cruise was thinly booked and received a good price and a upper floor veranda upgrade in the process.
