Time for a Re-fit, Noordam?

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Noordam

We are a couple of 65 year olds, who have not sailed with HAL before, but this was our fourth cruise. The embarkation process at Civitavechia, Rome, was speedy and efficient. Our luggage arrived in our stateroom 6003, just as we did. Our cabin was specifically for a disabled traveller, as I have mobility problems and use a scooter. The stateroom was situated right at the prow of the ship on the ...

Great itinerary but a few niggles with Noordam

We really enjoyed our trip and had a lovely stateroom with balcony (7011). We have travelled Holland America before (Veendam, Vollendam and Statendam), all of which we enjoyed. We had never been on Noordam before and have to say that the ship design is not to our liking. Some bizzare planning meant that Greenhouse staff at reception desk were continuously interrupted by guests travelling through ...

Pleasant Staff, Tired Ship

We are big fans of HAL and were very excited about our first European cruise with the line. First to get the negative out of the way: The staff was very pleasant but you could tell they were understaffed: long lines at the front desk, long hold times when calling guest services, sometimes not having the cabin cleaned until 4PM. Additionally, the ship was tired and worn- the toilet seat in our ...

Chose this cruise as am not a good sailor & ship docked every day! This meant only nights on board. I found the cabin with balcony to be a life saver!bused the balcony heaps - arriving & departing ports was great to watch. Best exp was sailing into Venice - what a sight viewed from up high on the deckE had 2 days of sailing & were disappointed that there was no on board entertainment. We ...

HAL Standards Slipping?

Just completed an 11 day cruise on Noordam from Venice to Civitavecchia. This was our fourth HAL cruise and the second time on the Noordam. Again it was a great experience but there were one or two areas where we felt HAL's usual standard of excellence were perhaps slipping. First the suite. It was 6177 - a Deluxe Verandah right at the back of the ship on a corner with wrap around balcony for ...

Another Great Cruise With HAL

We are a family with 2 teenage children and have enjoyed 4 cruises with HAL. There must be something quite satisfying about a HAL cruise which keeps us coming back. Venice is a fantastic place to visit and from which to embark, the sail out passed the island and St Marks etc. is something to behold. We booked cabin 4015 which has a more spacious balcony but has a metal balcony front (not glass). ...

From Toni Vitanza -- who cruised on Noordam June 20 from Rome -- I am a flight attendant with 17 years of experience and I have frequent cruiser status with several cruise lines. This cruise was probably my seventh or eighth Med cruise. But this was our first time to cruise with HAL and I am afraid we have been spoiled. Since returning from our cruise, I have already told several passengers on ...

My wife & I returned a few weeks ago from an excellent 11 night cruise on the Noordam. Normally I wouldn't submit reviews, but after reading a few of the other Noordam reviews on Cruise Critic I feel I have to add my opinion as I cannot believe that some of the recent reviews are genuine. We have no other ship to compare the Noordam against being first-timers, but we were blown away by ...

So disappointed

My wife and I had cruised on seven previous occasions and this was our eighth in total and first with Holland America. We had been led to believe that we were in for 'something special''. Not so, in fact almost everything was very average. Our stateroom balcony cabin and attendant were excellent but everything quickly fell away after that. The ship was drab and dreary. The dining room staff were ...

I had high hopes for a great experience. My wife had her 60th and I wanted to surprise her with a spectacular experience and give her a trip to remember, 16 nights Rome to Greece, Turkey, Rome, Rhodes, Gythion (Sparta), Athens, Naples, Monte Carlo, Tunisia, Palermo etc.. Arrival was great, fast embarkation, we were welcomed to a nice Veranda Room with balcony as promised everything was great. Our ...
