Well organised scenic cruise
"We had open seating in the main restaurant on decks 2 &3 so that we could be flexible about eating times, and never had to wait more than about 10 minutes for a table for two.We had one very disappointing excursion organised by Holland America from Ketchikan, which involved travelling for a total of an hour by coach and a further two hours on an unacceptably noisy, hot and uncomfortable enclosed boat to a fish breeding farm (not advertised as such), where we expected to (but did not) see bears feeding on salmon on the stream (the real object of the trip)...."Read More

We had an absolutely amazing, enriching and unforgettable time on the Nieuw Amsterdam. My wife and I have cruised on many different lines and ships. This trip was our first with Holland America. The Nieuw Amsterdam is what I would call a moderate sized ship, especially when compared to the newer “mega ships”. We found the ship itself to be clean and for the most part, well run. The Nieuw Amsterdam seems a little dated compared to the Koningsdam and other Pinnacle class ships. We were very pleased with our Verandah cabin and the MDR and Lido food was better than on a recent cruise on the Koningsdam.
