We lost 2 cruises due to Covid and this was our choice to use our FFC.
Embarkation was a mess. We were delayed one hour in the sun, on the pier in San Diego, several passengers were affected by the heat and required the assistance of others in line, there was no Holland America presence to offer them assistance.
We found the crew to be pleasant and friendly.

We've sailed on many HAL ships over the years and have to say we'll never sail again on the Konigsdam. Although the food was excellent, they've cut service to the point that hour waits for dinner were normal. Waiters and staff were obviously stressed and had too many tables to serve. After having itineraries to Istanbul changed two years in a row, we had ‘some’ cruise credit expiring. The pacific coast cruise seemed like a remedy & we’ve never been on the Koningsdam.
Perhaps the larger ship just isn’t for us. The crew seemed to be training while this ship sailed which resulted in inefficiency. Particularly popular food items frequently became unavailable.

I sailed on this ship with the same itinerary in November, 2021 and we loved it. So, we decided to do it again on the November 5, 2022 sailing. BIG MISTAKE! So we are on a California Coast cruise. Neptune Suite. Have not been on a HAL for 3 years. A lot has changed. New rooms and refreshed ship. That’s nice. We chose this short cruise to discover if we liked the Pinnacle Suite before we booked a longer voyage. While spacious and well laid out, the hot tub and music system were broken and unusable. Our friends booked other staterooms and we planned on using the Pinnacle suite for hosting. It's a shame when paying a premium for accommodation that such key amenities are not functional.

Waited 2 years for return of 25% of monies taken by HAL on the same cruise that was cancelled before covid.
Embarkation was hectic as 3 ships were in port at San Diego, however the ship was very clean and the crew were excellent our balcony cabin was nice and stewards were very friendly.

3 star Mariners, cruised HAL 137 nights, over a decade of loyalty towards HAL. Very disappointed with it’s treatments to loyal guests. Decreased in benefits, increased in “nickel and dime” up charges, gratuity, etc.

e had boarding in San Diego. I did all the pre boarding requirements on the HAL website and on VeriFLY. Our boarding pass said that a REAL ID-compliant driver's license was ok BUT the dock personnel did not seem to know that, we got shuffled over to another area and were finally told it was ok and we were allowed onboard.
