I needed to go to the US and found this transatlantic for a good price and the timing that I needed. My first Holland America cruise 6 months prior on the Rotterdam was disappointing, but I gave HA another try. This cruise was much better. The atmosphere was much more relaxed (I'm assuming this stems from management down), and the crew seemed less uptight too. There weren't constant announcements ...
Selected itinerary for the ports and ability to spend a few days in Rome. Embarkation was the BEST, easiest, fastest we've ever experienced. We were boarded and eating lunch in MDR a full hour before our check in time.
For a ship going into dry dock, we did experience any maintenance related issues or ration shortages. There was no visible work being done in the areas where we walked. May have ...
This was our third Holland cruise and most ambitious. A Mediterranean cruise is inherently busy because of all the port stops. Several ports are commercial ports, so bus travel is required to get to the attractions.
The Oosterdam, as with all Holland ships is meticulously maintained. The crew was very friendly and our cabin stewards Gusti and Mifta were top notch. We had a cabin on the ...
My lifelong dream was to visit Venice. I selected this itinerary as it included an extra night in Trieste with excursions to Venice. Ships can no longer port in Venice and if you plan to visit, you will have a longer commute. It is what it is. I did not purchase travel insurance, but did use HAL "Flight-Ease" to book my flights as they will accommodate any disruptions in travel. I also ...
We (my husband and I, our daughter and son-in-law) chose this Mediterranean cruise for the interesting port stops in Italy, Greece and Malta. We mainly used private tours or explored on our own; the only ship-sponsored excursion we did was to Delos, off the island of Mikonos. The Delos excursion was run efficiently and we enjoyed the knowledgeable guide who spoke excellent English. It was ...
Great return to cruising - HAL exceeded my expectation from food, service and fun. We were a family of 4- 2 kids aged 9 and 12. The Med Itinerary was excellent- only place I would not want to return to was Albania. I really enjoyed the stop and the day at sea. It was a busy cruise and very hot so we enjoyed getting back to the ship each evening for a swim in the pool and a few Aperol spritz. Great ...
We (2 50s parents and 2 18yo children) cruised on Oosterdam for two weeks, joining about a month after her return to service. Overall, this was an excellent cruise for us, and we actually think it was better than our 25-day 2019 Mediterranean cruise on the Koningsdam. We selected the cruise primarily for itinerary--lots of ports, and places we mostly had not visited previously. With one ...
We flew into Rome from Miami, arriving October 31, and were efficiently whisked to the cruise port at Civitavecchia where the Koningsdam awaited. The 45 minute bus ride was uneventful and I tried to stay awake to enjoy the passing scenery. Our boarding was fast and we found the HA personnel - here and at the airport - kind and helpful. My husband and I were traveling with another couple and we ...
We actually were booked on our favourite and most travelled line, Princess, on their brand new Sky Princess but when we saw the Koningsdam's itinerary we switched. We just did the 13 night itinerary in and out of Civitavecchia. The itinerary was the main draw and we had read some pretty disparaging reviews on Cruise critic after booking, but we decided to stick with it. I am not sure why people ...
This cruise was my second cruise in Europe, my third cruise with Holland America, but my first on the Koningsdam.
We stayed one night in Rome before the cruise and one night after, both at the Starhotel Metropole which is less than ten minutes’ walk from Termini station, a location very convenient for transfers to and from the airport as well as the cruise port in Civitavecchia as we did both ...
