Very happy - not “wowed”

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Koningsdam

We were looking for a January cruise , but not Caribbean. We also wanted an embarkation port we could reach easily. San Diego was an easy direct flight. We wanted a cruise that was longer than 12 days; and finally, we had never been to Hawaii, so this itinerary checked all the boxes. We thought the staff, particularly Leo and Juan, bartenders, Tri, our MDR waiter and our incredibly hard ...

Cruising is not the same post-pandemic

After 2.5 years of no cruising we decided to take a chance. As we are from the Vancouver area, the itinerary leaving and returning to Vancouver allowed us to cruise without having to fly somewhere else to get on the ship. We’ve cruised to Hawaii twice in 2019. This itinerary combines both a cruise and our favourite destination. We enjoyed all the ports although we prefer Lahaina and Kona over ...

Finally got my round Hawaii cruise after the Rona

I had this cruise set up for September 2020 of course some thing happened that stopped all of us from cruising. With the post Rona hitches in mind the cruise was excellent. See lots of complaining about service. Unfortunately understanding and patience seem to be in short supply. The HAL crew you could see were depleted from pre Rona cruising but the effort expended was above and beyond for ...

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. We have sailed on Holland America several times before, although in recent years we have chosen Celebrity. This cruise sailed eout of Vancouver, CA which is a wonderful, beautiful city. Now I will get to the problems we have encountered. First, the boarding procedures were horrific. We were given a 10:100 AM Priority boarding time. We were guided to ...

This is a review of a recent trip on the Holland America Line (HAL) ship Koningsdam. We sailed from Port of Vancouver to Hawaii and visited the four Islands (Maui, Hawaii, Oahu and Kauai) before sailing back to Vancouver. This adventure should have been a trip along the coast of Norway in 2020, but COVID-19 put an end to that idea. HAL offered us a refund or a future cruise credit, so we opted ...

1. Itinerary kept being changed before and during the voyage mainly due to islands with Covid-related issues such as lack of tourist infrastructure for two years. During the cruise, stormy weather also affected some scheduled ports, especially tendering operations. We were about 1,700 passengers, mostly from the US but a large group from Canada and a few from other countries. Due to the length ...

First cruise into the South Pacific was a bumpy one, but still fun

We choose this cruise for a few reasons. 1) we had always wanted to go to this area of the world 2) we love the "at sea" days as much as port days and 3) there were at sea days between every country visited, so on the off chance that someone would have gotten Covid, we would only have missed at most 1 country. As it was, we traveled with another couple,1 person got Covid, and missed 1 country. ...

Background: Nov 2021 we went on our second HAL1 week Mexican Rivera cruise on the Koningsdam from San Diego. Fun, high energy good cruise. Would repeat. In June 2015 we were on our first Holland America cruise on the Zuiderdam for 33 days: 29 ports, 13 countries from Barcelona to Rome. Inside cabin. We had a wonderful time with the ports, fellow cruisers, food, music etc. we would ...

HAL Eurodam 3/1-18/20 Experiences

Review for a Hawaii Cruise on Eurodam

We were on the Eurodam from San Diego - 3/1 - 18/20 to Hawaii. This was during the Grand Princess from Hawaii to San Francisco, that docked finally in Oakland. We were all concerned about corona virus positive crew or passenger(s) being on board our ship. The Captain gave us daily updates, changes in hand sanitizer use, cleaning, food being served only in buffet, etc. and lack corona cases. ...

Itinerary wonderful...Ship not so good

We booked this cruise 2 weeks before sailing. The itinerary and price was too good to pass up. Leaving from San Diego was the perfect start of this 17 day cruise. Embarkation was a bit chaotic as a Disney ship was embarking at the same time. This caused an hour or more of standing in line and wait time. This was the perfect way to visit Hawaii. The 5 days on the Pacific crossing were warm ...
