HAL offers terrific service, but needs improvement

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Eurodam

The ship was clean and beautiful, everything seemed to be working, and the service was absolutely fabulous. The Eurodam is a little older now, but still very nice. On service, standouts were our cabin steward who helped our disabled mother very much in her suite, the management in the Tamarind, who went above and beyond, and the disembarkation help we received because we were traveling with a ...

Haven't sailed Holland America since 2007

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Holland America Rotterdam

I am an avid cruiser. I cruised Holland in 2007. After this sailing, I felt that it was for an older crowd and I wanted to go on cruises that were for families. Since then, I sailed with Norwegian, Princess Royal and Carnival. The crew on the Rotterdam were very friendly and accommodating. The food was very good.(we enjoyed the lido, dive in and the New York deli) The music clubs were ...

7-Day from Port Everglades

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Nieuw Statendam

My wife and I have sailed on about 25 cruises over the past 20 years, but never on Holland America Line, so this was a new cruise for us in many ways. Overall, the 7-day cruise from Port Everglades was very good, not outstanding, and I will provide our thoughts of the pros and cons. First, we elected an obstructed view balcony cabin on the 4th floor, and the view was indeed obstructed by the ...

Love Holland America

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Holland America Rotterdam

Embarkation: We chose to leave our car at “Park and Go” and it was a great decision. Quick and easy transit to the ship and a very short line and short wait to get on board. Ship’s Overall Appearance: No complaints, but not quite as “elegant” as the HAL ships of 25 years ago. Not a lot of “glitz” which to us was a good thing. Adult oriented with no water slides or kids parks. Our ...

Disappointed

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Holland America Rotterdam

This is my 12th cruise and was excited to cruise Holland America as we had heard and read positive things. Ship: Average decor. The ship interior is very dark except in the crows nest. Cabin was nice with plenty of storage. Cabin stewards were excellent. I don't know much about stabilization, but this ship had a lot of movement. At night it felt like someone was jumping on the bed ...

My first cruise 23 years ago was with Holland America and I fell in love with cruising. The staff on Holland America back then was out of this world! Dining was elegant and all the waiters lined up in tuxes as you entered the dining room. Everyone dressed elegantly for dinner, and as you left the dining room they handed out thin slices of ginger to cleanes your palete. At the pool they had a ...

Would have been a great trip, but a few preventable issues left a bad taste

Review for a Caribbean - All Cruise on Nieuw Amsterdam

My extended family of 13 (4 couples, 5 teenagers) took a 7-day Caribbean Cruise from HAL Nieuw Amsterdam in early Jan. My wife and I had just taken a 10 day cruise in December on Carnival Venezia. It’s very interesting to compare the 2 trips. HAL clientele definitely skewed older, whiter, quieter, and better behaved. NA being the smaller ship, it didn’t have as many “extracurricular” ...

We have done 61 cruises including this back to back on the Rotterdam. We have sailed on various cruise lines, it has been 10 years since we sailed on HAL. The Rotterdam is larger than what we like but booked a suite to enjoy the small Club Orange dining room. And the extras. Our good experiences: Embarkment total chaos but we were on board at 11:30a.m. The Lido was fine for lunch on ...

On par with the Jewel of the Seas

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Eurodam

Something about us
6-10 Cruises • Age 60s

The Eurodam and the Jewel of the seas are almost identical in size. The Jewel has a more customer friendly central area that can be used to host music and dance events, too. It has a larger outdoor pool with far more sunbeds than the Eurodam. The Eurodam has a more enclosed, covered pool area as if it was designed for overcast, chilly North Sea sailings. The Jewel also has a solarium type warm ...

I swear that cruise lines encourage (or at least allow) employees to slack off, or more likely, weaponize incompetence on the first and last days of the cruise. After a smooth embarkation we were aghast that not only was the maître d’ not available to fix the incorrect dining assignment we had been given, but we were told to stand in two long lines that were both the wrong line. It turns out ...
