My sister is a 4 time mariner and after the loss of her husband of 56 years asked me to join her for a cruise that she and my brother-in-law had wanted to take during Thanksgiving. I did! I am 58 and had such a great time. I went without picking up any internet packages (no phone calls/texting, no FB...., -I called my husband 3 times in 16 days to check in. I was able to relax like I ...
Love cruising on Holland. The food was excellent in the dining room. We moved once due to a poor waiter and ended up with an amazing young man that truly exceeded any expectations we had. Also enjoy the Dutch cafe. Wish they offered longer hours for breakfast and at night.
Activities are very limited unless you want to spend money to sample wines, whiskey or other alcohol related ...
1st time on Kdam. Beautiful ship. As expected on all Holland cruises, cLean, friendly & helpful crew, good food. Loads of great music choices. Lincoln Stage Center kids especially talented. There are a few parties but craziness is not Holland’s forte. Docked next to a Carnival Cruise, at least a bazillion kids came screaming ashore! Yikes! We didn’t explore ft lauderdale. On & off was easy. ...
The itinerary included some Caribbean islands I had not previously visited. I have had good past experiences on HAL ships and wanted to try Koningsdam which is one of their newer and larger ships. At 2600 passengers it could not be considered a big ship compared with other companies' vessels that carry from 4,000-6,000+.
Embarkation was delayed due to a Coast Guard inspection but was ...
Panama Canal 10 night partial voyage.
The Holland America Zuiderdam has some serious air conditioning problems. Understandable that when you’re walking through the hallways, it can be a little warm with the deck doors open, however, the rooms should not be to the point where it’s uncomfortable. The second night into our cruise, we called down to customer service and asked them to check the air ...
We chose the cruise for it's destination, the Panama Canal and for it's embarkation port, Ft. Lauderdale. The ship was fine, the stateroom was excellent and the service staff was wonderful. We did NOT feel the same about the ship personnel. They were aloof and never smiled or made eye contact. We also felt that there was a constant sales pitch for jewelry or spa services. We were inundated by ...
I picked this cruise for the brilliant itinerary - the ports were the best part of the trip. There is absolutely NO Wow factor to this ancient ship.Embarkation went smoothly(mainly because I,d done it on line before leaving home),the welcome aboard was non-existent.Cabins not ready so battled to find our way around,no staff to point us in the right direction. All decor & public areas are very drab & ...
I will start with the title of this review. Embark, disembark all OK - most lines have this in the bag.
We chose this cruise on Noordam, because we love Vancouver, we wanted to go to Sydney and we love sea days.
This cruise bore not the remotest resemblance to our 2 x cruises on Volendam Dec.16 and April 18. Where has the elegance gone? The fresh flowers everywhere? The sophistication? ...
I choose this cruise for one reason only the ports of call, I was excited to get guided tours around, no thinking, no getting lost but after the third terrible excursion, I cancelled the rest of them. Cruise Asia is a terrible provider of excursions and does not even give a bottle of water all day. (note average age of traveler is 65+ and the hottest ports of call in the world)
The literature ...
Took the 14 day leg on the HAL Westerdam from Hong Kong to Singapore chosen due to a great itinerary.
My first ever cruise and I had been told by my companion, a seasoned cruiser, to expect entertainment, activites, music on deck and shows galore. Sadly this was not the case on the Westerdam and the HAL entertainment was very disappointing. Sea days were quiet with very few activities. Those ...
