HAL clearly in decline

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Nieuw Statendam

We are frequent cruisers and have traveled with HAL several times in the past. We wanted a cruise that would stay close to the US that visited places we had not previously seen. In retrospect it’s clear that this itinerary is less than compelling with most ports having minimal activities off ship if you do not chose the cruise lines’ tours. Dining experience was good though don’t expect surf ...

Choose the cruise for the Itinerary. That was great. Ship was overall good to great. The dining room and Lido service was super as was the Tamarind Bar and Restaurant. Some of the shore tours were good, most were so so or worse!!! But the absolute worst was the "Premium 24/7" internet!!!!!!!!! Out for days, if not hours. When it was working, slow to non-existent. But again, the real issue is the ...

A 45 day cruise that should have been better

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Nieuw Statendam

When researching possible summer cruises, this 45 day itinerary (3 back to back segments) seemed very interesting. We had sailed the Nieuw Statendam on two previous cruises (21 and 14 days) in 2018 and 2019 and had enjoyed the ship. Overall, we have sailed Holland's Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam for 115 days total and are considered "4 star" guests (Holland's rating system). We had not ...

Tuesday, August 2 – fly to Boston We left the house a little after 4:00 AM to meet our friends at their house a half-hour away (but on the way to the airport). We parked our car, transferred our luggage, and off to the airport we raced! We arrived at 5:20 and our friend dropped us off (with all the luggage) at the terminal and he went to park the car. A very helpful American employee helped get ...

OK cruise with terrible ending

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Zaandam

My wife and I chose this last minute cruise since she had never seen Canada. We are frequent cruisers of the Caribbean and thought this might be a nice change. The ship is fairly small and the clientele for this cruise is definitely older. The food was good on the cruise. The best part for us was all the food is actually served even on the buffet. Was nice to not have other guests ...

We choose this cruise for the itinerary. It was leaving from Boston and we don't live to far away. Also we had heard great things about Holland America. We loved the first 5 days of the cruise but the last two were where Holland America totally lost us. We loved the service, food and ship until the last two days. Two nights from the end of the cruise a pipe burst on our deck and 6 or 7 ...

I chose this cruise because my family decided a last minute trip and this trip was the only itinerary would fit our schedule and we wanted to explore the East coast of Canada. I would rated the experience better if it was our trip ended so terribly on the last day of our cruise trip. The crew members were hardworking and friendly. The food was good overall. I think they ship needs a major ...

Good Food and Excellent Service did not make up for many issues

Review for a Canada & New England Cruise on Zuiderdam

We selected the 12-day Canadian Maritimes cruise for the itinerary; the Zuiderdam was the only ship that offered it. We found the food quite good, and the cabin, dining, wine staff, and dining captain service excellent. We had a Verandah stateroom on Deck 6, and it was large-with lots of storage and a huge bathroom with soaking tub and double sinks. Our balcony was large, though we were not able ...

Disappointing

We have traveled with Holland America for many years...have been on the zuiderdam three years ago and was very happy. We picked the Canadian cruise from Boston to Quebec City because of going to New Foundland. Even though we got to the pier at one o'clock ,the embarkation took over two hours, because the Coast Guard had a inspection. We were in a veranda cabin, it was very nice, except the ...

We booked quite late, so missed out on a verandah cabin, we had a cabin on the lower promenade deck with a window view. The room was fine, but you do need to fully unpack suitcases because there is not room to have them out. The room was super clean. The room attendants so helpful. Go to the talks on the first day, they are very helpful about shore excursions and the ship layout. We didnt book any ...
