This is our second cruise on the Rotterdam in the past eighteen months. Embarkation in Baltimore was a breeze with the on-line form in hand. From the time we parked the car, we were in our veranda deck cabin in 45min. Our cabin steward arrived in minutes and gave us a warm greeting and asked if we would need anything special during our stay. The two requests were done every day at the times we requested. We then went for lunch and I to inspect the ship. The Rotterdam is seven years old and starting to show minor wear, rugs-varnish on teak outside rails-paint on cabin verandas with some rust spots. Otherwise the ship was spotless on a daily basis. The food for the most part was good, but has slipped some since our last cruise. Breakfast and lunch at the Lido were fresh and hot, the Thai stir fry was excellent when offered at lunch. The LA FONTAINE dining room was good, but not great. Several times the vegetable with the main course never made the plate. Twice the main course had to be sent back as it arrived cold. This was done without question by our waiter, but never did our table captain appear. Come to think of it, he never came to the table at all during the entire ten days. Very strange?? With the change in dining format we ate at 5:45 pm. We love the upstairs dining area & had a wonderful window view from table 35, dead in the stern. However this is really too early to eat, but we didn't want to give up a great view. The other problem with split dining is the BAKED ALASKA parade doesn't start until the lower dining area is done the main course. The upper area was 75% empty by this time!! The Pinnacle Grill was in one word OUTSTANDING! THE service is now fully East-European, with a chef from Winnipeg, Canada. The steaks and lamb rank at the top of any list, including RUTH CHRIS, MORTON'S, THE HOMESTEAD in NYC. It's well worth the $20 per/person charge. The cruise staff were young Americans and Canadians who really got people involved if they wanted to be, good variety of things to do no matter you age. Spoke with several parents who had children in CLUB HAL said it was great, the kids said the same thing. The highlight of the cruise was HALF MOON CAY. Just a great day at the beach, with great B-B-Q lunch and plenty of cold beer. Based on our last cruise on the Rotterdam I would give the entire cruise an 8 out of 10 Read Less
