We have cruised on Holland America several times and generally found their ships to be enjoyable and well staffed. Not so with this ship. It looks to me like "every expense was spared". This was our first cruise and it was well below our expectations overall.
The rooms are great, clean and modern with good bathrooms, the crew members are excellent and very hard working, BB King club offered great shows in the evenings. Spa was relaxing if a little crowded at times. Unfortunately, this is it on the plus side.

We chose the Koningsdam because it was new, Holland America Lines reputation for service, and the itinerary. The itinerary was fantastic with so much to look forward to in the Baltic Sea. We were disappointed and underwhelmed generally as the cruise was more expensive than others and there was nothing outstanding that would make us loyal HAL customers.

Though we've never been huge fans of HAL, we generally choose them because of the interesting itineraries. For this cruise, the brand-new ship, itinerary, bonus perks, and decent on-board credit were major factors. But the ship is a complete dud, from design, to implementation, to dining.
