We have cruised on Holland America several times and generally found their ships to be enjoyable and well staffed. Not so with this ship. It looks to me like "every expense was spared". The decor was tacky and tasteless. The cabins were downsized. Since we were cruising in the North Atlantic there was little opportunity for being out on deck. Therefore most of the time at sea was spent in ...
I was excited to sail the new Holland Koningsdam on this Northern Isles and Viking Sagas itinerary. Sadly, the ship was disappointment and there were more negatives than positives on the cruise as a whole. This one ended up being tagged "the snooze cruise."
The design of this ship is large, open venues. There are no more winding hallways with charming bars and music venues. The ...
We wanted to cruise the Baltics ans choose this cruise because it docked 2 days at St Petersburg. The last two ports Gottenborg and Helsingborg should be replaced by another day at Copenhagen and Stockholm
We flew into Copenhagen a day early and stayed at the Hilton at the airport, and it was a great choice because you dont have to go outside to reach the airport or the Metro to Central ...
This was our first cruise and it was well below our expectations overall.
The rooms are great, clean and modern with good bathrooms, the crew members are excellent and very hard working, BB King club offered great shows in the evenings. Spa was relaxing if a little crowded at times. Unfortunately, this is it on the plus side.
The ship was overcrowded due to design and timing issues. The ...
We have been on other cruises before and enjoyed it, but this trip was a major disappointment for several reasons. We were super excited to try HAL and to be on a new ship, but it was not as we had planned or expected.
Positives: The ship was clean and new. The stateroom was nice and the stateroom attendants were very friendly and hospitable. The Culinary Arts Center dinner was a great ...
Let me start with the lido staff were great. They worked hard to make everyone comfortable, particularly during peak hours.
I thought a brand new boat would be great. I was VERY wrong. The rooms are tiny & noisy - see below for cabin review. It was obvious that everything is not completely coordinated yet. For example, the boat was late arriving for the first day of the cruise. So instead of ...
The choice was a back to back between Iceland and Russia July 4 through 28, 2016. Copenhagen to Copenhagen. Requested Convertible Twins. Got one king bed. Ask for two separate beds. Stewart gave me a face and said he would do it. Shower head LEAKED. Shower curtain hem covered with MOLD, curtain not connected on two top hooks. i leaned back on the curtain over bed; DUST AND FIBERS FELL OFF AND ...
This was advertised as a new ship. It was and the paintings and decor were lovely BUT it was spacious in the Atrium areas and small everywhere else including our inside twin cabin.
The daily program was repetitive on sea days as was the activities. I heard the piano players and main band, BB King (which played mainly a jazz and blues (hence not dance music) was on a 4 month contract. It ...
We chose the Koningsdam because it was new, Holland America Lines reputation for service, and the itinerary. The itinerary was fantastic with so much to look forward to in the Baltic Sea. We were disappointed and underwhelmed generally as the cruise was more expensive than others and there was nothing outstanding that would make us loyal HAL customers.
The Vista suite was not worth the extra ...
Though we've never been huge fans of HAL, we generally choose them because of the interesting itineraries. For this cruise, the brand-new ship, itinerary, bonus perks, and decent on-board credit were major factors. But the ship is a complete dud, from design, to implementation, to dining.
Embarkation was horrible. You'd think that after all these years in the business they'd finally get it ...
