We chose this cruise very long ago ,and then, covid! So it was rescheduled and changed some ports a few times. We were excited about the ports, we had not been to any of them. We made plans to stay in Amsterdam for a week before boarding. We were ready to cruise when we boarded.
Boarding was ok. Since we have 4 stars we got sent through right away when we arrived at the pier, in time for the ...
Positives are cleanliness, food and employees. Negatives are entertainment and dropping you in remote tender ports without any concern for availability of taxis or busses to primary location.
The entertainment in the primary show room was very disappointing and appeared to be low budget. One of the large bars has a piano and not sure why they never used it with a cello or violin for ...
We had a great cabin - aft, veranda - that we loved. No diesel, smoke/ash and little noise from Lido above. Great views, tiny sitting area.
We chose to take meclizine, starting the night before our cruise. This was the most sea we've seen on any cruise (still topped out at 2+ meters - 7-8 foot swells) and were both fine. I had anxiety but no actual motion sickness. There was an outbreak of ...
We sailed the 14-day Best of Norway itinerary that left July 26 out of Copenhagen and overall we really enjoyed it. The itinerary was terrific and priced very competitively compared to other cruises taking place this summer. Traveling was myself, my husband (both in our 50s) and our 11-year-old daughter.
Our sailing was also being sold as two 7-day cruise offerings. It didn't occur to us ...
As one of Holland America’s Legendary Cruises (and also as one of the most expensive), the Voyage of the Vikings on the Zuiderdam, which sailed July 22-August 26, 2023, should have been nothing short of epic. It fell short of that goal, but was still very good and certainly worthwhile.
This review will cover the good things we experienced, as well as the not-so-good things.
THE GOOD ...
Overall, our muti-generational family of 6 enjoyed our 14 day Norway cruise from Amsterdam. The Rotterdam ship is new and has lots of nice decor and is laid out well. We used just about every area at some point (except the casino, kids clubs, and game room) and thought they were all great spaces. There was a good variety of activities each night and during the five sea days. There is an indoor and ...
This was a 35 days cruise and sure enough I got Covid after about day 25. It was well handled, but what surprised me was that there were no announcements each day at noon as to how many people were in quarantine. It was a big secret. Without transparency on this, it makes you reluctant to travel again.
I also got a fungal infection on my toe, which makes me wonder about the hygiene standards ...
The new Rotterdam ship was lovely. We boarded late due to a gastro problem on board the previous week which required a DEEP cleaning. The special needs people were hard to find. Non existent on disembarking. Wheelchairs NEVER appeared at designated spot& we had to get ourselves off. No help. The entire crew was very pleasant. However in main Dinning room they were extremely slow. 45 min to even ...
OK, right. This is my first ever in depth review of a cruise ship experience.
Bit of back-story starting with a bit of a confession. We’re a married couple from London, and admittedly not particularly well-seasoned cruisers. This, on Holland America Line (HAL) is only our third such adventure and the one with most stops / fewest sea days. We love sea days.
Our first cruise was a ...
We have chosen this cruise because of the attractive destinations in Norway a country which we both my wife and myself had never visited before. We were fascinated about the landscapes in this country.
Specially kind and service oriented was the stateroom staff Sugeng and Albert as well as the service staff in the restaurants. Holland America Line can be more than proud of this staff.
