HAL Are You Listening?

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Oosterdam

We just returned from a 26-day TA from Athens to Fort Lauderdale; actually a 12-day Mediterranean to Barcelona and a 14-day transatlantic crossing to FL. HAL sold it as a single 26-day cruise but the second 14-day leg was much cheaper so many got on in Barcelona for TA. Unfortunately the weather prompted the captain to cancel Cadiz and Portugal. We had also lost 2 ports on the 12day segment but, ...

First and last time on Holland

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Oosterdam

Although we've been to the other cities on the itinerary, we were attracted to this one because it featured two cities that we wanted to visit --- Istanbul and Barcelona. Our experience was a combintation of surprise, disappointment, a little anger, and some light-hearted moments. We have never traveled on HAL before, so we didn't know what to expect. The embarcation point and procedure should ...

Review for a Europe - Eastern Mediterranean Cruise on Nieuw Statendam

Nieuw Statendam clearly wishes to appeal to the loving-loud-music-everywhere American. The ship will be successful in this. The ship itself is beautifully maintained. You will have to search to find a rust spot anywhere. First-class paintwork, varnish and cleaning. Faultless and much appreciated. An MSC ship moored alongside at some stage and that looked very different. All housekeeping and ...

First Time on Holland America - Expecting More

We chose this cruise for the itinerary and the cruise line reputation, as this was our first cruise on Holland America. The servers were friendly and accommodating, often going out of their way to please cruise passengers. But we can’t help compare the Oosterdam to several previous cruises on Celebrity, which continues to be our favorite. We enjoy the universally prepared Mai Tai ...

It's not the same old Holland

It's not the same old Holland America since COVID-19. We do understand that Carnival Corporation was just burning through money during Covid 19 and you can see it in their drastic cuts. As a 3 star Mariner I must admit that it may be time to switch cruise lines. The lack of onboard entertainment is very noticeable. Now instead of production shows we watch a comedian play with a Rubik's ...

Great Itinerary but Ship Service Lacking

This was our first Holland America experience after sailing on Royal Caribbean and Carnival. We picked this cruise because it was one of the few lines that visit Istanbul. Athens, Mykonos, Istanbul, Crete, and Olympia we’re all great ports. Things that were a disappointment on the ship: entertainment was sparse, food/drink service was not available at all times and ended at 11:30pm, and ...

This is a shortened version of a 2,624 word review we sent to Holland America Guest relations and never got a response to: This cruise was our first travel adventure since the pandemic began in 2020. We booked this cruise to celebrate our wedding anniversary and to belatedly celebrate a milestone birthday that occurred during the pandemic. We booked a 5 star ship, which is our standard when ...

Amazing Cruise Even with Covid Restrictions

I booked this cruise in June and thought things would be better by August. As we all knew Delta variant came around and I was unsure about going but so glad that we did. The crew could not be happier or more attentive. The embarkation was not as hectic as I thought although they could have had fans in this huge tent we waited in. We got there at about 2pm, was given a group number to wait which ...

Many Wonders, Some Special Moments, Occasional Sour Notes with 16 Ports

Review for a Transatlantic Cruise on Zuiderdam

HAL put together a 7 day Greece with a 19 day transAtlantic cruise calling it a "Collectors Journey". They promised different meals and shows over the 26 days but repeated the menus and the shows from the first 7 days into the transatlantic. The ports brought the magic: Athens, Kusadasi, Rhodes, Santorini, Katakalon, Naples, Civitavecchia, Livorno, Barcelona, Palma de Majorca, Alicante, ...

The Great, the Good, the Average, the Bad, and the Ugly of 7 Days on Zuiderdam

The great was the aft Neptune Suit with the wrap around balcony. After more than a dozens cruises in various levels of cabins, we found our dream with the aft and wrap around balcony. Even with a very port-intensive cruise this was an idea cabin. The good were the ports, in particular Kusadasi and Santorini. Got private tours to Ephesus at Kusadasi and of Santorini. Rhodes was fun, but we just ...
