My husband and I are first time cruisers in our late 50's. We selected HAL because we wanted a smaller ship/fewer people. I believe there were 1900 passengers on this trip. I understand the total capacity of the Westerdam is about 2400 passengers if every bed is filled.

Very ordinary despite all the promises of an up market ship.
Room was never cleaned until late afternoon.
While the room is a good size, the bed takes up far too much room and the fold out lounge/bed was very old and uncomfortable as the only seating in the room.

I purchased jewellery on board, and was given a certificate for 2 years, and it was dated 2015 instead of 2016. I sent it back to be corrected and have had no reply. Overall this was a wonderful trip! The Westerdam was a lovely ship and the scenery in Alaska is breathtaking! I can see why many people repeat Alaska many times over. We were also truly impressed with Seattle. Prior to this trip, we had never been further north on the west coast than San Francisco. What a great Alaskan cruise on the Westerdam!!! We flew into Seattle and sailed on to Alaska! Embarking the ship was so smooth and fast! The luggage was at our cabin door before we were! The ship is great! Meals were great! The waitstaff is awesome!
