We selected a one-way cruise from Vancouver to Seward (AK) before a business meeting in Anchorage, and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Chose this cruise line because they had the route we needed at the time it was needed. But we will not sail a second time on this ship or cruise line.
Most of the staff are Filipino, who have the gift of hospitality. Especially noteworthy was Michelle who ...
My husband and I are first time cruisers in our late 50's. We selected HAL because we wanted a smaller ship/fewer people. I believe there were 1900 passengers on this trip. I understand the total capacity of the Westerdam is about 2400 passengers if every bed is filled.
I did a lot of research because I like to know what to expect. I read many reviews on this cruise line, destination and ...
Very ordinary despite all the promises of an up market ship.
Room was never cleaned until late afternoon.
While the room is a good size, the bed takes up far too much room and the fold out lounge/bed was very old and uncomfortable as the only seating in the room.
Activities very limited and different entertainment were usually all on at the one time and very hard to see them.
Was not ...
I was going to Yellowknife and wanted a cruise to Alaska after. This cruise was scheduled perfectly so I choosed this cruise. As a first time cruiser, I really do not know which cabin to choose, so I opted for a guarantee cabin. But that was a huge mistake. I was assigned cabin 5179 which was near the aft. As I learned belatedly, that was one of the most shaky part of the ship. My partner and I ...
I purchased jewellery on board, and was given a certificate for 2 years, and it was dated 2015 instead of 2016. I sent it back to be corrected and have had no reply. When I got the jewelry valued in my country there was a huge gap and I had paid much more than would be reasonable. No one from that company will reply to my emails or letters. The jewellry on shore was much more affordable, ...
We travelled on Nieuw Amsterdam on the round trip to Vancouver,we were especially looking forward to our call at Skagway and our excursions there, however on the morning of our port call we watched with disbelief as the ship approached Skagway where two other ships had already docked minutes earlier and then after a couple of minutes suddenly turned around and steamed away, the captain made an ...
Overall this was a wonderful trip! The Westerdam was a lovely ship and the scenery in Alaska is breathtaking! I can see why many people repeat Alaska many times over. We were also truly impressed with Seattle. Prior to this trip, we had never been further north on the west coast than San Francisco. What a wonderful town Seattle is and it warrants an extra few days if you can spare them.
The ...
What a great Alaskan cruise on the Westerdam!!! We flew into Seattle and sailed on to Alaska! Embarking the ship was so smooth and fast! The luggage was at our cabin door before we were! The ship is great! Meals were great! The waitstaff is awesome!
Special hats off to the service waitstaff, it was impeccable! Special mention to Bill, Marvelous Marvin, Kurt, Adolfo, Ali, Little Jose and ...
I went on the 20 day Alaska Land and Sea Holland America trip. The Holland America hotels in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska, were a disgrace to the name of HAL. Soiled sheets, soiled carpets, wallpaper that was torn and tattered. The meal plan was very expensive and had little variety of venues. The restaurants at the various cities were very limited and VERY ...
My husband and I chose this cruise because it fit into our timetable and allowed a visit to Vancouver. I sailed with HAL several years ago on an older ship and did not have a good experience but since it fit we decided to give it another try. The Noordam is a newer ship and exceeded our expectations. We upgraded to a signature suite and found it to be quite spacious with 2 sinks in the ...
