A friend and I took this cruise with some reservations, having seen other member reviews. I realise everyone has different expectations, and possibly we struck it lucky, but there was very little in this cruise that we were not happy with! I have to admit to two things - firstly that this was our first cruise, so we have nothing to compare against, and secondly that they weather was exceptionally ...
Summary: Last Alaska cruise of the season out of Seattle dodged Pacific storms with great success, altered an itinerary and still packed a great experience into the mix. Embarkation/Disembarkation a breeze. Ship was in good repair. Cabin was well maintained and serviced. MDR dinners were excellent (and came hot every time). Entertainment ranged from outstanding to dreadful. Ships crew were, in ...
We(my mom and I) took my father on an Alaskan cruise for his 70th Birthday! We have had no previous sailing experience on a cruise ship so we decided to take it as it comes.
We were helped at the airport by a friendly lady from HAL and soon we were on our way via a bus to the port. Once there it was easy to get "registered" and then onto the ship....As per the reviews I was a bit apprehensive but ...
We travelled from the UK to go on this cruise and were not disappointed.
The Westerdam is beautiful. I'm a bit funny about cheese-tastic decor but this was totally fine, touches of modern, touches of old-cruise-glamour. Maybe one or two lurid rooms (Northern Lights disco comes to mind) but I wanted to feel like I was on a ship, not in a sterile hotel, if people want that look then they should go ...
We arrived in Seattle a day early. We booked with HAL and stayed at the Fairmount Olympian. Hotel was nice and rated as 1 of the 2 5 star hotels in Seattle. Can't say it was as nice as other 5 stars I've stay at, but it was nice and the staff very helpful. The only thing I found out of line was our breakfast. Breakfast for 2: eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, hashbrowns, diet coke and 1 mimosa was $67.00 ...
Our group of three couples chose the Denali add on where we flew into Fairbanks, then took the scenic train to Denali, and a second scenic train to Anchorage, and a final scenic train to Seward before boarding the Zandaam for a downbound trip to Vancouver. Downbound is recommended as it provides the relaxation of the cruise after living out of your suitcase.
The land portion of the trip was most ...
We flew into Vancouver a few days early. We stayed at the Renaissance Vancouver Harborside Hotel, which we liked very much.It is only a few blocks from where you get on the ship. Had an ocean view that was really a nice view of the harbor. There is a building in front of the hotel that blocked part of the view, but we still really enjoyed it. The pool here is open 24 hours! So nice not to rush back ...
I cannot compare our August 31 cruise on the Westerdam to any others because it was our first cruise, but we have already booked one for the spring based on our great experience with the Westerdam. Embarking and debarking were both quick and smooth, even for rookies. We were in Cabin 6069 (superior verandah suite) and found even with newbie overpacking we had plenty of storage and cabin space. We ...
We had a wonderful cruise on the Oosterdam. We did our best to enjoy everything we could as the days flew by.
We took full advantage of Seattle by arriving several days early. We toured through the city on our own. Some of the highlights were The Seattle Underground Tour in Pioneer Square, the Smith Tower observation deck (better than the Space Needle and cheaper), and Canon (an amazing bar with ...
We arrived at the cruise terminal at 12 noon and porters were scarce, so we took our luggage inside the building (and saved $5). Then we waited in line at the bottom of the escalators, again upstairs for security screening, and again for our room keys. We had our son's desktop computer with us and security said they had never seen one go through before, but they didn't have a problem with it. (My ...
