Expect the days to be HOT and humid at each port you visit. If you can stand the heat and like to sweat, then you'll have a great time. I enjoyed the food offered on the ship, the chefs had nightly special, that gave you a chance to try foods that you wouldn't have a chance to enjoy otherwise. The crew couldn't have been more helpful, from keeping the room clean, deck dry, and even cleaning your ...
Friends recommended Viking and we both wanted to cruise the Mekong. The trip was made infinitely more enjoyable due to the two tour directors - Kong and Lee - they were exceptional at every turn. Additionally, our local guides were also excellent - knowledgeable and very personable. A further part of the trip that made it enjoyable was the other passengers we made friends with - definitely a ...
The cruise was excellent from start to the end. Our Guide received us at the Ho chi Minh City Airport and stayed with us to the end. It was a small intimate ship where we got to know all the fellow passengers. The cabin was adequate and very well appointed considering the small size of the ship. The crew of the ship made every effort to cater to each passenger and their special needs with a ...
This was our seventh Viking river cruise and 4 months later we still say it was our best ever. We started in Ho Chi Min City, ended in Hanoi and included the Ha Long Bay extension. All the hotels were excellent but we really loved the Hanoi Metropole.
We know to expect a perfect balance of comfort, good food and culture with Viking but the people we met on this trip made this a unique ...
I can't say enough good about this cruise. First, the ship was a throwback to the old British colonial days with teakwood and shuttered doors. We felt like we were reliving history as we along the Mekong. Our room was compact but comfortable. The foods prepared by our chef was exceptional. He prepared special foods daily for those, like myself, with food allergies. The staff from captain to ...
We arrived 2 days early to not be jet lagged. The Viking staff arranged a room. We stayed at the Hotel Sofitel which was modern and has a wonderful buffet. We paid for the expensive breakfast buffet at the hotel and we're extremely glad we did. You really don't need lunch if you do. I strongly recommend the high tea in the bar. I also suggest you pick up some small toys and candy to give to ...
There are a few different companies that offer similar cruises up the Mekong, but we had sailed with Viking River Cruises in the past and were happy with them. I booked the April sailing, the last of the season because we could not sail earlier. This meant that we had to deal with the summer heat, which made the trip uncomfortable at times, but still well worthwhile.
We took the 3 day ...
The Viking Mekong cruise not only afforded the opportunity to experience the Mekong Delta, the breadbasket of Vietnam, but also the ability to visit Cambodia. I knew from my days as a soldier in Southeast Asia in the 1960's that travel in that part of the world could be challenging for a westerner. The Viking Mekong cruise was an ideal way to experience not just large cities but small cities, ...
Interesting trip along the Mekong River.
We began our trip in Ho Chi Min City and explored this busy and populous city. And the trip to the ship included a visit to Cu Chi tunnels which the Viet Cong used during the war to attack US troops. We will take excursions off the ship daily to see and experience life along the river in both Viet Nam and Cambodia. Phnom Penh was particularly ...
We chose this cruise and land excursion to get a good understanding of the culture of SE Asia.
Unlike others I found the ship quaint and it fit the area we were traveling in. While the stairs were steep and there were some tall banks to climb. The itinerary stated that this trip was for people that could climb stairs and navigate uneven terrain. Viking went out of their way to accommodate ...
