Beds are comfortable and the room was very clean. Elias who was our cabin steward was very friendly and helpuful. Too bad the rest of the cruise crew had a terrible attitude, they were all super rude. The food at the buffet was ok, but they don’t serve a lot of options. The restaurant food was terrible, bland and small servings. The staff at the restaurant was super rude, and had a terrible artitude, up to the point we avoided asking for things. If you have a food intolerance forget about this cruise, they don’t take questions about what they are serving. We traveled with 3 adults on wheelchairs and they had a lot of trouble moving with them around the ship because cleaning carts blocked the hallways and we got yelled at when we tried to move them. One of the elevators did not work for almost 2 days and that one was the one we could reach. We asked for assistance and they completetly ignored us and they told us “we didn’t need the service” I wouln’t recommend this cruise if you have trouble moving arround. The entertainment was poor, and we could hear the music in our cabin until 1 am. Overall I think this cruise was way too expensive for the service and quality of meals. I wouldn’t recommend this ship to anyone unless you want to pay to get yelled at. Read Less

We have cruised with many companies and this has been the worst. Nothing to do with the places we visited - Cuba, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Cayman Is and Jamaica, they are all amazing. The booking itself was stressful and I needed to send emails to various departments to get anything resolved - who puts a family of four two decks apart on different ends of the ship??And on the ship many staff are breathtakingly rude, the ship is old and needs to be retired, the food is not up to any other cruise we have done including the waiters, the entertainment is shockingly poor - 1 Quiz a week!? Bingo once maybe twice a week, it’s dance lesson after dance lesson after dance lesson in all the bars and some very dodgy singers. One night they had karaoke and it was heaving and we were all having a nice time so instead of letting it carry on, they stopped on the dot for the dodgy singers and everyone left. Went once to the theatre - way too small, the acrobatic duo is not very exciting when they can only get three feet off the ground and if they have anything decent you have to pay extra. Internet is not unlimited, my husband still needs to work while we are away and it has cost us a fortune to keep topping up, other companies do have unlimited packages. Room much smaller than we have ever been in, not enough room to unpack for two weeks. Everything is penny pinching, going back to RC in the future!! Also try and do your own excursions when possible, so much cheaper and you can go at your own pace, not theirs. Read Less

My first cruise in June '18 - booked late - within 3 wks of departure, through Iglu. Travelled with my sister whose husband was unfortunately unable to go with her due to illness - hence late booking, Sister is seasoned 'cruiser', having been on at least half a dozen - one of which had been with MSC in the Med. Having read various reviews both before & after, I have to say I was more than happy with this cruise - my first. Ignoring TAS ('Trip Advisor Syndrome') I would recommend this cruise to anyone. Fantastic Western Caribbean/Central American itinerary, esp.commencing & ending in Havana (on my 'bucket-list'). I had always wanted to go on a cruise but had some concerns about it possibly being a tad stuffy or too formal (Captain's table etc). Another misconception was that It might be claustrophobic & possibly boring. No worries there either. We had cabin 9244 (Oceanview Fantastica) which was surprisingly spacious & definitely worth paying a little extra for the ocean view - so great to wake up to a new & interesting vista each morning, Kept spotlessly clean. Plenty to do onboard & I particularly enjoyed the various dance tasters like Kizomba, Bachata, Merengue, Salsa etc. Would have appreciated talks/historical & background info on the ports of call or perhaps film nights but I can appreciate that this could prove difficult given the multi-national nature of the customers. I really liked the mix of all ages & also nationalities, & trying to resurrect my poor Spanish & Italian language skills. Although we were some of the few Brits on board, all the other ones we met were truly lovely & great company - especially at our restaurant table, Although the Pool deck was usually busy & active there was no shortage of quiet & restful nooks & crannies where you could relax, both inside, in one of the many air conned spacious lounges, or on deck, in both sun or shade. Only negatives were with the booking process itself but perhaps allowances should be made as it was so last-minute. Was bombarded by unnecessary emails - swamped with a bewildering amount of often conflicting information. This is an area that really needs to improve - website & booking process both. Probably wasn't helped by the fact that we were using 3rd parties such as Iglu so scope for confusion increased greatly eg hard to remember who you were meant to be dealing with ie pre-booked excursions with one outfit but had to pre-book drinks packages with another. Have to say that we sometimes read/were told (on the phone) conflicting, or downright inaccurate information. This is the only area that seriously needs to improve in my opinion. It proved a real disincentive to me as a potentially keen cruise customer. Having successfully negotiated my way through this administrative nightmare, I really felt as though I needed a holiday! But these gripes apart - no 'whingeing Pom' here... Couldn't fault another thing. Food excellent - both in Restaurant & Buffet. Literally something for everyone & very easy to eat healthily too. Very impressed that the restaurant gave Healthy Choices recommendations with calorific values & nutritional information. (Not to say that I necessarily followed these ;-) Could even have porridge (my favourite) for breakfast, bearing in mind this ship has a mainly Mediterranean clientele. Overlooked it for the first few days as it's described as 'Oatmeal' (in the American style) on the English menu so I had imagined muesli or similar. One small thing - Buffet coffee (in all-inclusive) often pretty cold but this improved towards the end of our stay. Authentic Italian freshly baked pizza from Pool Deck's Pizza Bar was a huge hit with everyone & was certainly delicious when I tasted it. Staff & service pleasant, attentive & helpful but not intrusive. They all work so hard - this really should not be underestimated. I saw some downright offensive & completely unreasonable behaviour towards the staff on a couple of occasions - which were handled beautifully. It really beggars belief what some people decide to complain about - bitterly to the staff (eg the pool being 'far too quiet very early in the morning' & 'why was nobody swimming in it then?'). If you are determined to be miserable I'm sure you will succeed, but then I wouldn't bother going on a cruise if I were you. My first, and I certainly hope not my last, MSC Cruise. Highly recommended. Read Less

I was looking for something special for my birthday trip but had specific dates. I searched and found the Havana Cha Cha Fly Crusie from Melbourne, with three nights in Mexico City including the Pyramids and City tour all flights, the cruise and one night on land in Havana. It was perfect, places we had not visited, the right dates and price. After booking, I was concerned after reading some very negative reviews, I gave MSC right of reply and they said not to worry, the ship is good, some minor technical issues due to Havana being a third world port but enjoy the experience, so we boarded with an open mind. The ship is lovely! very clean, lots of different bars and cafes, something to suit everyone from a party on the Lido to a quiet martini in bar Duomo, where we were given snacks and amuse Bouche before dinner. As on all ships they were doing painting and maintenance every day, it is a small ship but it was very good. Now I confess we had a suite and we felt it was one of the best suites we have had on a cruise, it had a walk in robe and a bath tub! (we have cruised with many cruise lines in many countries).(I am not comparing to the 5 star cruiselines) My only gripe here is the only amenities in the bathroom are hand soap, shower gel and shampoo on the shower wall and a shower cap, none of the nice little extras.being in a suite we had robes and slippers. Another big gripe for most people was that the water is not potable but unless you have the top beverage package you have to pay for water in your room. Having the all inclusive package we took water up from the bar, but I do feel drinking water should be a given. We spoke to people in Balcony cabins and they were happy with theirs too. There were two restaurants The Pergola on deck 6 where we were allocated with "My time dining" for dinner and the Marco Polo on deck five where we had breakfast. The wait staff were mainly Indonesian and lovely. The food was good, not gourmet and this could be due to lack of fresh supplies in the area. The buffett is chaotic like most are but there was a nice selection of fresh salads, and vegies and if you missed the breakfast in the restaurant there is a fresh egg station and pancake and waffle station just outside the buffet so you dont have to brave the actual buffet. They also have nice pizza and decent hamburgers and fries all day, so plenty of selection. There was lots of entertainment and fun on the Lido Deck, a couple of shows each night in the theatre (Only drawback, the compare says everything in five languages which is why there are no comedians or movies!!) I would say the passengers were 50% Italian, 25% Hispanic, and the rest a mix of French and German with a few Brits and even fewer Aussies. Made for fun conversations using sign language. The crew all were multilingual and very helpful and cheery. The cruise itinery was a bit dissapointing, Havana is amazing and a must visit but Montego Bay and George Town were not much and could have been skipped. I would have rathered been docked for two or three nights in Cozmal instead, as we did the full day trip to Tulum (amazing) and didn't get to go snorkling or do other activities there. So I have no problems recomending MSC, and the Armonia, not sure I would recomend this itinerary though. Like verything you get what you pay for, MSC is not a five star cruise line, and very good value, and we would travel with them again, but as with this cruise opt for the suite. Read Less

We choose this cruise because of its itinerary and the lenght of stay in Havana. Firstly they give you very little information, but has we have done cruise before we soon found out things. The daily news letters arrived after 8.pm so we did not know what was happening till late the night before The clientelle is mainly Italians, Spanish, German and the entertainment is mainly around this. The entertainment team work hard, but it was boring mainly. Dance classes on deck twice daily, which I except but why have them again in the evening when people want to be entertained. The main duo were good, but all other singers were terrible. The main dinning area was too bright, slow service and the food was not good, the buffet the food was boring and bland. Overall the food was not good at all. No real choice or flavour. The best things were the fries and the pizza which I normally dont eat alot of. The staff I feel did not make much of an effort to the guests. Slow with filling up the wine glass. Two choices of dinning is not enough. The dinning room is old fashioned in decor which you can live with but bland food, no. The excursions were expensive so we choose to do our own thing for a lot cheaper. Our cabin was fine we were on deck 8 and was kept clean and presentable. But again the staff never really made any effort to smile or speak when passing. The bar staff on deck were slow and were not over friendly, on a couple of occassions they were hanging around and not coming to get guests orders. Again not so good at customers service. Can not rate the theatre as did not go as not really our thing The pub on deck 5 was a better service. Can not fault the drinks package, the choice was good and had some decent brands on offer and the coktails too. But overall the food and entertainment was poor. And lastly dont put anything in your case you want to loose i had things taken out of my case between putting it out on the last night to docking. Msc can take up too 28 days to reply. My wife and I needed a decent holiday somewere were it is warm. A cruise seemed to be ideal since we had a good experience with a cruise in 2011. MSC cruises seemed a decent provider (boy were we wrong there). We did not wanted to book COSTA due to the reviews saying that the language used on board was Italian. The same counts for at least the MSC Armonia, the whole entertainment crew (most of the time the contacts are between entertainment crew and guests) speaks 1st of all Italian, than Spanish, then Portugese, then German after al these laguages something that supposes to be English, but hardly recocnisable as such, comes to surface. The food in the restaurants was advocated to be made by a 2 star michelin chef, however the chef was not on board personally. The chef that was tasked to reproduce the 2 star chefs menu was far from par. example: beef carpachio consisting of a big portion Iceberg lettuce instead of rucola, boiled 1,5mm thick sandwich topping beef instead of untra thin sliced raw beef. The excursions advocated different experiences than the reality gave the participants, for example: an off road experience that does not go off road, a luxury beach trip were participants are left behind on a cold beach that was closed for swimming due to bad wheather (trip did not got cancelled and the participants payed +-€92,- each for basicly nothing. The crew that joins an excursion is only self experiencing rather than taking care of their guests. The MSC Armonia is like COSTA cruises equal to being little Italy including mobster way of treading their non Italian guest and fixing prize winning events such as what they called "the bet" My wife and I will never book MSC cruises again for the reason that we did not enjoy a cruise, or enjoyed the food, let alone the price/quality was out of balance. Be advised by our experiences in your decisions for this cruise ship. If you still decide to book this ship I hope your experience is better then ours was. Read Less

We liked this cruise because it was a totally Cuban cruise, in spite of the fact that it spent one day in Montego Bay to refuel and load supplies. Most of the other cruises we saw were Caribbean cruised that only spent one day visiting Havana. In addition, Crystal is a smaller ship which is great for embarking and disembarking. Our cabin was small but clean and our attendants kept the cabin very clean and were great offering to change our towels various times during the day.The food was good and the entertainment fantastic, among the best compared with Seabourn, Silverseas and Windstar. But what we mainly liked was the great service we received on board from the crew and especially from the Cuban members of the crew and entertainment staff that put on fabulous shows and also gave us great tips for onshore visits. The excursions were good and informative about the Cuban people, their music and arts but nothing exciting. Overall i would rate the ship and the service almost on a par with Seabourn, Silverseas and Windstar but for the cost-value it was definitely a 5 star. Read Less

The cruise was part of an all inclusive package from TripCentral. Most Canadians go to Cuba for the beach and then maybe fly to Havana. The Celestyal cruise offered an opportunity to see more of Cuba, from Havana to Cienfuego, then Santiago plus a stop in Montego Bay along the way and we were not disappointed. The excursions offered a rich cultural experience. The tour buses were new and air-conditioned. The tour guides spoke very good English. The nightly shows, though not very elaborate, but were fabulous. The entertainment team and singer were all very talented. Each excursion was topped off with a stop at a popular bar and we were given free mojitos or margarita. The food in the ship was not 24/7 which was good because we did not gain much weight after the trip. I love the daily Latin dance lessons. The crew were friendly and very hard working. I would recommend this trip to anyone who would want to experience and see more of the Cuban culture. During the transfer from Havana to Veradero, our taxi broke down and so we were out there on the highway under 36Celsius heat. I was worried that we will have to wait a long time for a replacement taxi to come pick us up but another car came within 10 minutes and we still had plenty of time at the airport to relax and buy some souvernis. I chose this cruise because of the destination. The service in the buffet dining room is terrible, it is hard to order drinks because the staff are mostly chatting with each other, or just walking around like a robot, they don't even check the tables if they are dirty, they go walk around not noticing anything. Once they have your drink order, it takes about 10 minutes to arrive. The food is average, and there are only few selections. Entertainment is good especially the musicians who played very well and the shows are also good. My only problem is that one night you have to pay for local entertainment, compared to other cruises who get local talent and you don't have to pay extra for that. Guest services is the same, they send you to your room to phone them instead of taking care of your problem. Embarkation is smooth but confusing because they don't give instructions on what to do. At Boarding we sat in the terminal for hours with no information or what was going on or when we could get on. Once we were on we didn't know if we needed a new visa to get off while in port so we stayed on the boat and missed out on Havana in fear of getting stuck ashore. Our rooms where not ready until 8pm. Once on the boat the music was not up beat enough, just made you sad and sleepy. I even asked the cruise director to put music on one night around the pool there was no music at all. The shows where of low quality and mostly not in English making it hard to understand. Microphone volume was way too high for the volume of the music. Nothing to do on the boat, we were bored every day. Food was the same all the time with only one or 2 different things. Restaurant seating was terrible, we booked 3 couples together and couldn't sit together and when we asked to switch they said no so we didn't go back. No information sessions where given for ports (such as where to go and not to go, what to do). Port disappointing experience Example: Georgetown Cayman Islands was a Tender port was 9 to 6. Because he booked an excursion and had to all go at once we didn’t get off the boat till 11 then had to get on the bus for our excursion, went on a 2 1/2 hour excursion by the time we got back to port we only had 1 hour left and we didn't want to rest missing the last tender at 6 so ended up getting back on the tender at 530 and didn’t get to do any exploring of the port. Very disappointing Montego Bay, Jamaica was a 12h ours but with nothing to do at the port meant having to pay for a shuttle. Our driver took us to a small street with a few shop and then back to the boat. Would have been nice to see more. I would subject going on a week that the boat goes to Ocho Rio instead of Montego Bay. Cozumel Mexico, The Port was great, lots of shopping at the port itself. One thing I didn’t like is the venders on the street where very pushy and trying to get you to buy. Norwegian cruise lines what parked beside us at the port and they were greeting there customer back on board with red carpet treatment with water/Juice, damp face cloths ad towels, Party music and staff saying welcome back on board. We had nothing. They didn’t even take our picture getting off at the port like carnival does. At debarkation, you’re assigned a time to be out of your room and then a different time to be let off the boat. Was time consuming and with nothing to do while we waited made for a long day. We collected our luggage to find them all broken. Then we had no one to guide us to the bus. We stood outside with no guidance as to where our bus was. Then we got to the airport and waited in line for Hours to get through customs, I know this isn't the boats fault but it didn't help our not so good experience for the week. The staff on the boat was very friendly but some time language barrier was an issue and service at the bar was most of the time very slow. Long story short I wouldn’t book another cruise with MSC knowing how much more fun we had with Carnival. Read Less

Got to eat a lot and well, drinking well as the allegrissimo drinks package. The ship is very clean. And the sun deck was great! Also concerts and performances were great! Since Christmas was, it was also a corresponding mood board. Tours were incredible and well organized. Internet connection was good. Very proud of the crew of presentation, as well as the presentation of chefs, which was also my honor to be present. Cooks and waiters are there really level, as well as kajuteenijad. Festive clothes are worth to take, because there are a lot of style evenings. Every evening the cabin the next day's program, which is also written dress code. I chose this cruise based on its itinerary and having viewed the website thought the ship would be potentially a little be dated in style but wasn't concerned that in this day and age that the service, food quality and overall experience would be to much of an issue. Afterall, its is an international cruise line in a competitive part of the world - you are spoilt for choice of cruises. I was wrong. I have traveled to almost 50 countires, stayinging hotels, backpackers, developing countries and have cruised multiple cruiselines. I have travelled during coups and evening been on a tour where someone was abducted. This was worse. I have never written a travel review ever - i never felt passionately enough to be negative about a brand - until now! The service was poor - in fact there was little to no service. When calling from your room with a question or concern you were told you would actually have to visit the customer service desk. The inclusions were minimal - with incredibly high prices for anything above what they considered standard. Tours were expensive - dull and - despite having booked an English tour - in french. The worst of it was the food. The food was so bad i ultimately spent 7 days eating cheese pizza - the only thing edible. To describe this food as hospital food or airplane food would be to do both those things a complete disservice. The food was inedible. To add insult to injury the cruise was not cheap, the tours were not cheap and to have a automatic gratuity that with the exchange rate for me was almost double what i paid on my last cruise was a deal breaker. Furthermore, since we could not disembark on time on the final day i missed two flights, spent 10 hours in an airport and dealt with significant stress because despite porting in the country the cruise line appears to have zero relationship with the Cuban government for disembarkation. For those who say the cruiseline doesn't control this one simple thing would have resolved this. At time of booking don't say you arrive at port if a customer cant actually get off the ship. Its that simple. I received an email asking for my feedback. The email didnt work so i spent an hour searching for an email address to send my feedback before finding a form online. Despite including all of the above and having sent this feedback weeks ago i have had no response from MSC. Quite simply I'm surprised that in a day and age where customer service and experience is king and with plenty of competition that MSC are even still operational with such absolutely terrible service. If I'd even received an apology i would have considered not publicly posting this but as it stands i would not recommend this cruise to anyone and wish i had seen an honest review like this before i booked.
