18 of my family and friends sailed on 8/4/19 to 5 different islands to celebrate my mother’s and 2 of my Aunts 60th birthday. 14 people were first time cruisers. The entertainments, the food and the staff were amazing. We were all pleasantly satisfied with everything and looking forward to future cruise with Royal Caribbean. We missed our tour in San Juan, I contacted the executive office after Customer relations tried to give me a hard time for my refund. The office responded immediately and set up my refund. Excellent customer service on and off the ship. After the kids were in bed, we went out passed midnight almost every night enjoying the night life. The pizza restaurant was delicious, myself and kids enjoyed every slice. Our Waiter Florentina and her assistant went out of their way to take care of us. She found us sits in the crowded Windjammer for breakfast. I would recommend more varieties on the menu in the main dinning room. Also, more entertainment for the kids, we attended the kids disco on the 14th floor which started at 7:15 during dinner time. By the time we finished dinner and went up, it was almost over. The lady on the first day was interactive with the kids however, the guy on the other day just played music with couple of hula hoops and ballon laying on the floor. Both ended at 8:00 pm and 7:45 respectively. I will recommend this cruise line and ship to anyone looking for a great vacation. Read Less

We went on our first cruise to celebrate my 50th Birthday and wow, we were super impressed by Celebrity and were told by many cruise addicts, once aboard, that we had selected by far and away the best line and a great ship. Our concierge class cabin 1210, was excellent, with very comfortable bed and plenty of storage space for clothes, cases and other items. The balcony was excellent, with very comfortable loungers with foot stools. The ship itself (Reflection) is in excellent condition, very well maintained to high standards, it is clean, bright and safe. The crew, were all excellent, friendly, attentive and professional, our cabin steward, was amazing and took care of everything we wished for. Entertainment was very good, albeit 'toned' down somewhat, in particular the comedians, for a family audience. We were impressed with the overall ambience of the ship, with pretty much everyone onboard, being super friendly, polite and considerate of everybody around them. No louts, loudmouths or intimidating groups - which we were very pleased about. We went on a number of excursions, including Snorkel and Kayak, Mount Gay rum tour (I am a big fan and it was great), beach tours and plenty more. All was well organised, safe and stress free. All in all, this was a fantastic first cruise experience, which I can highly recommend to anyone who is not so sure it is for them. Read Less

The staff overall are fantastic, as usual not all can be great. The Martini bar staff were an amazing group. The Mast bar staff of men were by far the worst, so just avoid that bar and have a great vacation. The pools are small but we were rarely in them. Most bars were nice, yet we did not hit them all. Food in main dining area was top shelf, were the main buffet area had lots of good food with some average mixed in. There was definitely plenty to choose from. The indian food in the buffet was great. The entertainment crew put on a great dance routine near the end of the trip, my wife being a former dancer was thrilled and moved to tears. Being our first cruise we did not spend much time in the theatre. The casino was a hit with our group, a number of us came home winners. Read Less

Our wonderful travel agent had put together a group of about 60 folks, many of which we had cruised with previously. We have done a number of previous cruises aboard Celebrity ships and have enjoyed them. So, this seemed to be a logical choice. Leaving New Hampshire, in February, and going to Southern Caribbean sounded like a good idea. We had previously been to each of the ports of call, so that was not a major draw. Our cabin was 2131 (supposedly a former Aqua Suite, that is now a Sky Suite). The location is fine and convenient. The suite attendant and butler were both outstanding and professional. This suite has more than ample storage and is quite spacious. There is a considerable overhang above the balcony, which found very nice. Even being in the Caribbean, we had ample shade, with only a short jaunt to the fully open-to-the-sun decks, if desired. Some of the aspects that we most enjoy about cruising in suites aboard Celebrity ships are dining in Luminae and relaxing in Michael's Club. On this cruise Luminae dining was almost on par, but the Michael's Club experience was somewhat disappointing. The source of the disappointments were not due to any lack of effort on the part of the crew, but were systemic. It seems that when Celebrity chose to do away with the Aqua Suites, and convert them to Sky Suites, they neglected to factor in the full impact. As we were told by one of the ship's hotel staff officers, the Reflection now has more suites than any of the hips in this class, and yet Luminae and Michael's Club are the same size as the other ships in this class. Hence frequent periods of over-crowding can (and do) occur, probably too frequently. The staff in Michael's Club try their best but available space and furniture size/configuration work heavily against optimal usage. Luminae has some of the same issues (to a lesser extent). One immediate step to alleviate one aspect would be to have an additional sommelier available to assist at the very heavy usage times. We had no problems with overall service, entertainment, or activities, except perhaps the quality of some of the wines offered with the beverage packages. Read Less

We went with a large group and knew from the start that things would not be going well. First, they didn't have enough seating in the dining room for all of us. Second, the food was of such a low grade that we could not cut up the steak, no steak knives...safety reasons! So no more meat that needed to be sliced up. The baked goods appear to be frozen and then heated up...the biscuits were like hockey pucks! We had a guy who ordered the Kosher packaged meals and shared with the rest of us...one of the guys at the table remarked that this was the best meal he had on the whole trip! The entertainment was at fifth grade level...we had seen better performances at school theater! The acrobat couple were amazing! The comedians were fabulous but that was only 2 shows. The staff was wonderful and they did rise above all the miserable food and entertainment. I would go with a different line in the future...this one is done as far as I am concerned! Read Less

This review concerns only the Carnival ship and company. Our cruise was an adult-only charter and we had no complaints about its organisers. Our overall impression was of a penny-pinching enterprise seeking to squeeze every last dime from its captive customers. Specifically : - Food in general was very poor. Everything in the buffet was cold and poor quality (exception: the bacon was lovely). The MDR was pretentious and lacking real quality. The smaller venues (omelette station, Blue Iguana, pizza bar...) were notably better although the burger bar food was disgusting. Most places were closed too often, giving a poor choice of food for "non-standard" meal-times. Conform or go hungry? - Drinks prices were outrageous (with alcohol packages unavailable on charters - I can't think why). Wine “deals” were available at slightly less outrageous prices, whereby you effectively pre-purchased bottles from a selection. Having taken our money THEY RAN OUT of the most popular wines. We felt defrauded. We also often received our wine when our meal was half over. Water that wasn't heavily chlorinated and decent coffee also had to be paid for. - They confiscated the bottles of wine we brought onto the ship as apparently we had put them in the “wrong suitcase". They were never returned, despite the letter that said they would be! That left a VERY bitter taste (but presumably a rather pleasant one for staff). - The internet was extremely expensive, with very limited options to choose from. There definitely ought to be a per-minute option too for those who just want to research a lunch in port etc. The staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful. However there was a noticeable lack of management and training at the level above their individual jobs. They need to know how it all fits together! Our cabin, a deck 7 interior, was absolutely fine. It was well designed, had just enough storage, and nothing was damaged or missing. The only problem - a grave one - was that the toilet stopped flushing on several occasions towards the end of the cruise. It was quickly fixed each time but it was difficult to cope with, particularly in the night. The self-serve launderette on our floor was useful although each wash, dry and detergent cost a rather high $7.50. The gym facilities were also adequate. The ship has had major refits, I believe. There are certainly some oddities, including confusing lifts. Two major problems are: 1. The casino forms a main thoroughfare, particularly when it's raining, and smoking is normally allowed there. It wasn't on our cruise, but the stench lingers. 2. Everyone walks through the Limelight Lounge to get to the MDR as there are few viable alternatives. The route runs along the edge of the stage - most off-putting for everyone. Read Less

First of all, the good things. Our cabin steward Lamphong, Matt from the casino and our head waiter Pablo were exceptional. Always doing their best to make you smile. We ate in the steakhouse 2 times because it was so good. Also Guys Burgers is awesome. Now the not so good. We were late getting into port in Ocho Rios which I guess snowballed people getting off for excursions. They herded a couple of thousand people into a small building with tour people trying to yell instructions over the din. Very very unorganized. It was unorganized in all the ports. They need to find a better way. (Celebrity/Royal Caribbean does a great job). After arriving to our room (an aft balcony) we asked for robes and were told there were not enough on board for everyone. Who does that? And this is the second Carnival cruise in which we purchased a wine package and they ran out of my wine. Hubby prefers Merlot and I prefer Pinot Grigio. They ran out of Pinot on the last evening on two trips. Makes no sense to me. Another thing is Carnival does not have anywhere on their website to post comments. Afraid? Carnival is okay. We had a good time. They just need a little improvement in some areas. Read Less

We have sailed with RCL several times aboard the Explorer, Quantum and Anthem. It seems to us that RCL is cheaping out. There is no filet mignon offered in the dining tables unless you want to pay more. Would one night kill RCL's budget to offer filet mignon? Better bring your own body lotion, cause if you booked anything below a suite it's not going to be in your cabin. Your steward will get it for you, but have to ask. The soda machines work some of the time. But never all of the time. Seems like a lot of money for machines that don't work. The shampoo is in a dispenser on the shower wall... like Carnival. RCL used to be a quality cruise line. Now it's just OK, how sad. On a brighter note, our cabin steward, wait staff in the dining room and managed in the dining room were excellent. They could not do enough for the guests. Read Less

We stayed overnight at La Quinta, in BMW and it was nice, $159 for a room and parking for up to 14 days included. Shuttle to port included. We got picked up at 10:30 and were at the port by 11:00 and on board by 11:30 . In our rooms by 12:30 ish. Family of 8 went for the holidays, the ship was beautiful, and we never felt over crowded. Embarking was quick and we were on board within 30 minutes of arrival at port in Maryland. The ship was fully decorated, we had Santa on Xmas morning, and NYE was so festive. Balloons from the ceiling, great music, champagne all around!!! We all had inside rooms one with 4 people, it was definitely a bit crowded for 2 adults and 2 teen boys, but manageable tho they would book a bigger room in the future. Our room , we separated the beds and had plenty of room, I was amazed at all the space to put things, drawers on the vanity were pretty deep, three on the right 3 on the left, the right ones were full size, the left were half size. There was another set of full drawers in the closet( I put my shoes here). Two mirrors on either side of the vanity had shelves for toiletries, and a huge mirror, a center drawer was also in the vanity /desk. There was no refrigerator and we thought it would be an issue, but we never missed it. The bathroom had plenty of storage too. shelves and drawers and a lower shelf. Shower took some learning to not have it come on too strong, and once in a while hot water was a bit scarce. we just learned when to shower around it. We really liked the room for 2 people, and even 4 did okay. We three decorated our rooms and doors....many did. The room was plenty cool when we adjusted the air conditioning. Our room steward Emerson Thomas was so personable and kept our rooms immaculate. He was in there after every visit to be sure things were perfect. Of course we had towel animals, always fun!! Always a smile and a hello in the halls, knew our names in one day. Always asked us about our days. We went to the windjammer for most breakfasts and lunches, most day we were able to get a large table to fit us all around, and enjoy our start of the day. Food was aplenty, with many delicious choices, even the omelet station was over all fast. most I waited was 5 minutes. Pool was not crowded, plenty of chairs to sit, didn't really see a lot of hogs. Hot tubs were busy but still could get in if you chose to. They opened the solarium on the colder days for children within certain hours, which was nice. The pool bar was a bit slow compared to the other bars, but it was always busy too. For dinner we all met at the MDR we had the 8 pm seating. Our head waiter was Amlan, and his assistant was Joe. There were a re few glitches on the first nights, but they did their very best to please us. Both were new and did a great job. Brought us extra bread baskets every night always had our drinks to serve, brought us some extra plates of cheese and fruits and extra butters. One night there was no escargot on the menu( my favorite) and Amlan got one for me anyways without me saying anything, which was very nice. We enjoyed the foods we had, we enjoyed our servers, and the little shows they had a few nights. We ordered a bottle of champagne for Xmas, and it was at our table chilling, we also won a bottle of champagne and it was there another night waiting in a chill bucket. Cannot say enough great things about both servers. The two teen age boys with us enjoyed the teen group, we had many many children on board being a holiday cruise and only had a few behave a bit naughty. Had adults behave badly as well. We didn't go to shows as we were busy, eating, at the time they were happening many times. Only big complaint I would have is 8 pm sitting and singular activities in the centrum at 8:15 pm. So all us missed all that. Should be after both meals like 9:00pm. Lots of fun there in the day times. Egg drop contest, corn hole games, dancing, music. This is where the chair hogs showed up. They would sit for hours and wait for each show. We did some trivia games in the south pacific area, went to play bingo, decided $40/pp was a bit rich so found trivia fun. The Schooner bar was always pretty fast with drinks. The centrum bar was slow and some times rude. If you asked for a drink from that bar that you had in another bar, they told you you had to go back to the other bar for it. Never heard of that. We went to the viking lounge one night to watch karaoke, it was nice but again getting a drink was a 15 -20 minute wait. We learned to get it else where and bring it along. Karaoke was a bit pre- planned. Seemed if you dressed in skimpy clothes you were in. 50's night was fun!! We brought poodle skirts and saddle "shoes" and did the dances. The dancers were excited that we came dressed in 50's gear. My daughter who is a pinup girl here at home did a duet with "Elvis" of summer lovin'. It was quite fun!! There was a 70's night but they did mostly 80's songs. Again we came prepared and had a good time. Other nights there was always a small band or a duet of violin and guitar, both were good!! Day 5 we stayed longer for the day which was nice. We went to buck Island and Turtle Bay in St Croix, had a great crew with Grace from Carribean Sea Adventures. We had to get to the other side of the island and we were getting ab it worried about taxi rates and getting there on time. But we disembarked earlier than they expected, and found a taxi at the end of the pier for $16 round trip pp, which was great. The ride to Christenstad was hot as this Taxi decided not to use his AC. A 30 minute drive in a closed in taxi, no windows to open and hot air blasting through the vents, fortunately the ride back he used full air and it was delightful. The excursion was terrific. We snorkeled on our own and also followed a trail. Word of warning do not use reef safe sunscreen, it doesn't work. Tow different brands and multiple applications and we all still burned. Grace told us regular sunscreen is fine as long as you apply it 30 minutes before the water then it doesn't leach. embarking was quick and easy, but the alcohol collection was a disaster. Day 6 we were in St Johns Antigua, we did the stingray city tour via rccl. Disembarking was again easy. We were promptly on our way to the boats to take us out. We liked that the rays are free to come and go and we are corralled in instead. They were magnificent. So beautiful. Got to feed them squids, and they were not afraid of us at all. Nothing as soft as a stingray massage!! W will be back!! Nothing shy of amazing. embarking was again slow only because of he alcohol situation, The man had no clue what he was doing sadly but was trying hard. Day 7, we were in St. Lucia, disembarking was a breeze. We booked an trip to Splash Island on our own. We ran into miscommunication of pick up but once we found them behind Diamond International, we ere off and on our way in a lovely AC taxi that you pay $10 pp round trip. If you are at all weak ankles, or overweight, this is not the place for you. It is large floats and they are difficult to get up on in the water, the "ladder" is also a float. I stayed on land , and they graciously refunded me. The others in my family had lots of fun on the floats. My Teen age grandsons had a blast. The taxi came for us on time and we were whisked back to the port, with time to shop around a bit, and of course get some nice purchases of alcohol that is very expensive here. Embarking was easy but still a cluster mess around the alcohol table. Many didn't wait and took their purchase up to their rooms, no one said stop. Day 8 we were in St Kitts, disembarking was again easy, some of us did the chocolate tour via rccl to St Kitts chocolate factory. The owner is very nice and we had samples of various chocolates and then we made some of our own to take with us. It was very nice. Seema was very knowledgeable and patient with the young 6 year old even when she asked silly questions... sadly people behind me were impatient and made mean remarks about this 6 year old. I don't know what the rush was. We still had plenty of time to do some shopping and get a bite to eat, which is a good thing because my husband and I stopped at a little stand that served chicken a fries. We ordered that and an almost an hour later we finally got our food after reminding them three times that we were waiting. Embarking was the same easy on but bottle necked at the alcohol collection table, they ran out o f tape, then told my SIL who had a $150 bottle of Johnny Blue that it was no a big deal, he waited a bit then took off for his room, who is going to assume a $150 bottle will be just fine unlabeled with the room number? Day 9 , we were in Sint Maartine, disembarking was quick we did some early shopping with my favorite jewelers the off to Maho beach. Hubs and me already had been but it was still lots of fun and a first for the other family members. Taxi was $16/pp round trip. Beach was free, bathrooms were not. $1.00 to use. Gave you a voucher to use in the hut for beers, but most of us didn't drink beer... St Maartine has come a log way from hurricane destroying it, still has a ways to go , but was lovely none the less. Spoke to our friend the jeweler, he was broken into and looted three times, as were many there he said. His cousin who was in the clothing store was looted 5 times. Sad that people do that. Embarking was easy but again the hold up a the alcohol table. We had high waves that night and deck 10 was closed. Day 10 was warm and NYE. We relaxed at the pool, enjoying our drinks after breakfast. We hung around and just chilled until dinner time, we got no pictures done as the 6 oclock seating was in line for that, so we gave up. We had lobster tails for dinner, which made 7 of us delighted, me I had a yummy dinner sans that. NYE in the Centrum was fun, and we drank champagne and toasted in the new year. Day 11 was NYD, we relaxed, watched games in the Centrum, Drank lovely drinks ( after a late breakfast) , Chilled by the pool, grabbed lunch in the windjammer, did a little trivia about xmas movies, did oragami in Schoorner. Dinner was in the MDR, we dressed up and had lots of pictures done as there were 5 different places. Then off to dinner. We ordered a seafood tower to be brought down to us ($39) and enjoyed the ooos and ahhs. After dinner we relaxed and had a few drinks before going off to bed. Day 12 We had breakfast in the windjammer, it was a bit more crowded but still found a large table. then just relaxed and enjoyed the ship and drinks!! It was too cold for the pool and they didn't open it to kids the last colder days. Got an announcement that Mike our cruise director had man flu as they called it. Seems many got sick after they left the ship, none of us in our party did. Packed up and placed suitcases out a 8 and they were promptly picked up but they shut off a bank of elevators to use for that and it made for long waits for elevators, we mostly used stairs, unless we were on floor 4 and going to floor 8 or 9. We chose 8:15 disembarking, but it was delayed due to the government shutdown had begun. Once we were called, it was a fast look at our passports and no declarations and we were off and running. Kudos to RCCl for having people with red Flashlights alerting porters to where they are needed, this is a nice addition since we last sailed with them. ( 2009). We had a hard time getting back to our hotel with their shuttle, people who had just come off from a later time were running to the shuttles meant for earlier people. Thought there was going to be fisty cuffs.... people were just rude about it not being their shuttle but would get in anyways and defy anyone saying they had to get out. La Quinta needs a better system. Over all we had a fabulous time. It is sad that Grandeur and RCCl has now split this cruise time up. You cannot go for both holidays unless you do B2B for lots more money. Many people made it a yearly trip and many knew each other from previous years. I am glad we booked it before that change. I would do it again as a full 12 days. Hopefully they will listen and change it back. We bought the drink packages ultimate for adults, refreshment for the teens. We got a great price and got more than our monies worth. Starbucks coffees were included on this ship. The only other thing that was rather slow was the cafe with food in the later afternoon, understaffed, salad side he would take off most of the time, and the selections went quick, when we did get food it was quite good. Hot sandwiches, soups, and the like. Read Less

We chose the Holland America Zuiderdam ship for our 2018 Christmas family vacation. The only reason I would give any stars for this cruise is for the room and dinning stewards who provided the utmost impeccable service. Cheers to all of you!!! However, Holland America Ships are severely lacking customer service, acommodations are poorly described. The cabin layout was terrible and considering this was a Holiday cruise, it severely lacked festive activities, entertainment and decorations. We were advised by Holland America the Zuideram Veranda Cabins accommodate 3-4 passengers. We had 3 in our cabin. However, to accommodate anymore than 2 passengers, access to the veranda balcony and bar fridge are "completely blocked" and they had to "remove furniture" from our cabin to make room for the 3rd person for the entire cruise. I guess the 4th person would have had a caught on the balcony because there is absolutely no room for a 4th person. This was extremely disappointing when we had paid the extra $2,000 to have a balcony cabin but couldn't access the door to get out onto the balcony. SAVE your money a book an Ocean View or Interior Cabin for a much lower rate. The Ship's Customer Service Relations were not helpful in providing any alternative nor compensation for the extra cost we paid to have a balcony we had no access to. There were minimal Christmas decorations throughout the ship not making it feel very festive for a holiday cruise. Santa came aboard the ship to visit the 40-50 children on board and gave them all a dollar store gift that broke within the day. We expected much more for a Holiday cruise considering the inflated cost for a cruise during this peak time. We would never consider Holland America for future Holiday cruises. PS to Smokers: there is only 1 smoking section on board and they refuse to let anyone smoke prior to the ship leaving port. It was a long 6 hour wait from the time we boarded to leaving port. On day 6 of my cruise my cabin was flooded due to a burst water pipe attached to the Dr. Seuss water park. I was not made aware of this situation until I came back to my cabin to find the floor soaked with water and an industrial fan on the floor blowing cold air into the room. I was inconvenienced due to the faulty water pipe burst, I missed a special dinner with the group that I traveled with on the cruise, my fellow guests had to help me move to a new cabin which was above a bar/club, and I didn’t get any rest at all in the noisy cabin. The last three days of my cruise became a nightmare and ruined my entire cruise experience. As a VIFP Platinum member, I feel that Carnival’s guest services did not take my concerns seriously and they certainly did not treat me like a VIFP Platinum member. I traveled on this cruise as a single passenger and paid for double occupancy. Carnival refused to issue me a refund for my cruise or even offer a travel voucher credit on another cruise. I was given a credit of $388 and offered drink vouchers. My cabin was the most impacted in this water damage incident and I was the least compensated in terms of money and overall respect as a passenger. I am thankful that my travel agent was traveling with me and was able to take pictures/videos of this incident and she witnessed the lack of respect shown to me by the Carnival staff. Read Less

We had read all the reviews possible prior to boarding on December 6th and we feared the worst. As we walked to board we asked a couple how they liked their cruise. They responded "fantastic." The embarkation process actually went quite well. There was the usual excitement while in the lines and it wasn't long before we had found a high table in O'Sheehan's, and ordered drinks and chicken wings. We were on this journey with 2 other couples. This was our ninth cruise, one couple was on their fifth while the other couple was on their first. They soon joined us and we enjoyed each others company. Then it was time to explore the ship, before they delivered luggage to the room. The room was nice, but small, & the deck even smaller. We did like the little larger than usual, bathroom. The bed was pretty good, other than the usual separation that happens between the two, but the pillows were hard and terrible! We finally found some storage under the couch, two large drawers. The room service, and overall service on board, was about average. If you need hair conditioner, be sure to take some, as it is not provided, except in a shampoo mix. Take some! On board activities were sparse. Trivia, always won by the same group, that could be seen using their devices! Only a couple of crafts, & those were Origami folding in areas to small to accommodate everyone. The ship didn't have many cool areas to enjoy, as many other ships do. Boring! Prior to sailing we had made reservations in 4 specialty restaurants, 2 shore excursions and 2 of their nighttime entertainment shows. We never went to either of the shows. One excursion to Sting Ray City was cancelled, as well as the tender transportation to George Town, Grand Cayman. The specialty restaurants were fine except for the Brazilian one, all the meats were so over done or unattractive that it was very disappointing, so much so that we immediately cancelled a future reservation at that same outfit. We dined mostly in the Manhattan for dinner and the Taste for lunch with many trips around the Garden Buffet. Our night at Ocean Blue was a pleasant experience. We had a table outside and the service and meal were very good. The Japanese restaurant was enjoyed by our entire group and they sure put on quite a show. Cagney's Steakhouse was also very good. We weren't shy about going to the sit down side of O'Shehans, the wings were very good as was the nachos. Service on the bar side was very poor. Before the cruise we had read to stay away from the high table side, those remarks were right on the mark. Service inside was very good. Speaking of good service, on level 6 in the main area the bar service was very friendly and several of the bartenders were exceptional. Our first port was Cozumel. We've been there before and unless you go past the cruise ship shopping center there's not much to rave about. Rotan Bay, Honduras was next, The one street to walk, past the usual cruise ship shopping area, was narrow and was very run down. A quick glimpse of why the locals would love to leave. However, as the ship was departing the people waved goodbye to us, it seemed a very sincere display. We next docked at Harvest Caye, {Belize} NCL's little Disney like transformed island. We enjoyed our walkabout and never had to spend a dime. One person in our group thoroughly enjoyed the three zip lines. One couple took a ferry ride to a nearby island, they seemed to like the experience. Costa Maya was next. They keep enlarging their cruise ship shopping area. They've added some entertainment as people stroll by. Make no mistake, this area is packed. People crammed into the mall. When you unload 15,000 people at once it's got to be a little crowed. One lady with us found the fish eating your feet stand, to be well worth the $20. George Town, Grand Cayman was to be our next adventure. Hanging out with the sting rays in their very own city. There were early rumors that some of the excursions had already been cancelled and more might be. About then the Royal Caribbean ship next to us began tendering it's passengers into town. Soon it was announced that we would not disembark, that it was to choppy, and it would be off for Jamaica. Each passenger was awarded $22.00 for the reroute. Very disappointing, we were really looking forward to that stop. Ocho Rios Jamaica where we docked is a busy area. 3 huge ships, oh boy!! Our guide seemed to be somewhat informative on our bus ride to the rapids for our tubing ride.. Any people skills she had were short lived. After an enjoyable tubing down the river, we were off to Bamboo Beach. We were taken to our beach area and instructed to stay in our area. Soon people from another ship, were squeezed into our small space, get up & lose your dirty, old seat. Our four course lobster meal was a joke. 3 skimpy apps and a lobster you wouldn't pay for, hard & chewy. Oh yes, & there were ants everywhere, even on the food dishes. Other guides were continuously refreshing their guests drinks. Our guide disappeared and sent someone else in to try and sell $10 drinks of something. What a rip off for a $150 or so, excursion!! Stay away from, BAMBOO BEACH! The mini golf course onboard was very nice. The casino has an $80 texas hold em tourney every now and then. You get 2,000 in chips, lots of rebuys and/or re entries so you know what that means. The slots were always in heavy use, without much payouts. If smoke bothers you it might be best to avoid the casino. If you do find a spot kinda smoke free you can count on the fact someone will appear next to you quickly and light up a cigarette. In retrospect the cruise was better than expected. In closing it should be noted that there was a day onboard, toward the end of the cruise, that we noticed the salt and pepper shakers were missing from the tables at the buffet. That was a clue, the beginning of the dreaded norovirus! People were seen visiting urgent care in New Orleans after we docked. And even three days later after we got home the symptoms were apparent and we were, & are excellent washy washy washers. Read Less

Epic Starting with boarding-disaster/no Wheelchairs-blind people with canes all left to fend for themselves at bottom of stairs and escalator-no one organizing lines -one line became 2 th en 3 then a mob-countless people getting pushed and shoved-Utter chaos-no wheelchairs were available until after check in-took 1 hour after signing up to get it-two people came in and tried to get help for 94 year old and an 84 year old-no help at all -they had to walk-in to sign up to get a chair-10 in our group -all complained worse boarding ever? Talked to others during trip one couple with 27 cruises another with 30-we are close to 20 if u count river cruises——Platinum or plus doesn’t help outside! Toaster and coffee pot both broken on Sat Am on pool deck-toaster still broken 3 Food and service for 10 in Manhattan was very poor-many items cold or Luke warm-took forever between courses Dinner and service at Taste much better but still not hot Invited to Platinum party -went in -helped myself to wine -but no seats-we left Irish bar still the best concept yet- but service is very sketchy on the side with the pool tables-u have to flag people down and the 20 min before u get a drink—then the menu is different on the other side-both sides should be identical-I do not know whose brilliant idea that concept was -but forget it-open the whole thing up-with all the people on this ship the Irish Bar should be open on both sides-this waiting 25 min is crazy also could use one more facility of that size-maybe Italian or Greek or mixture of both/“Mediterranean Delight” Premium liquor package-somehow managed to drop Makers Mark off the list-Grey goose still on-totally arbitrary-like trying to squeeze two Buffalo nickels together to get a dime-come on -Premium is premium-stop the nickel /dime stuff-it demeans you! Pool way to small-both of them! Elevators-only 2 sets should be 3-a long wait always Service in the food areas very chaotic and inconsistent-Taste good -Manhattan terrible-Why? Now Disembarkation-rented a wheelchair from u for last 3 days-was told I could have an Escort to push the chair from my room to beyond passport -then the daily news says u can’t-so I call the desk and they say I can’t-so I told them to go across to Hotel Services and check it out-he comes back all surprised that I do have someone coming to get me-so I get a call before 7 am saying he is on the way and should he bring a wheelchair-we say no because I have one I rented from u-boy was that a mistake/ we get to gangway checkout and are told we cannot go any further with that wheelchair we have to get another one to go down the ramp-so we hold up the whole line for 15 min-then the guard checks our ship cards-mine is not working and he thinks I should go back and get a new one-my wife said no way-use hers-so finally we leave-getting over to the landslide and have to wait for a land-side pusher to take us through customs-which he did After a 20 minute wait-So we had a disastrous time on both loading and unloading. Also many times the people in our group of 10 were told one thing by one person and the opposite by another-not once or twice but many times-almost to please us with an answer-right or wrong! Most of Bar waiters and bartenders were top notch but especially if they were tipped -now this next thing I don’t know who to blame-Ordered a Southern Comfort Manhattan with sweet vermouth and a dash of bitters on the rocks-a standard for over a century-I got SC on the rocks-SC with red coloring-a glass of SC and a glass of Vermouth (mix my own I think)-the variety was amazing including a few drinks Straight Up instead of on the rocks!- Read Less

The smoke on deck 6 made us sick, had to see the onboard doctor, which really messed up our cruise. We love the Cavern club, but it was so packed that we couldn't enjoy it. People went to the show before and just hung out. Food from the Cirque was not good at all. The meat was cold. The biggest disappointment was that they only had two scuba (we are advance divers) excursions. They did not have any for Cayman or Belize which are amazing dive sites. We had to do our own for Jamaica, Cayman, and Belize. That was a huge disappointment. When we travel on Carnival they are working with us on the ship to schedule dives if they do not have any set up. Norwegian staff would not. The TV vacation planner did not work. We would have things schedule and it would not show up and then we didn't think we had it when we did. This happened in regards to a show and in regards to a dinner reservation. The iConceirge Ap said there was an upgrade and I was never able to use it. We did the Blackjack tournament and asked to get into the one of the rounds on a table that was not filled up and she said it was after 12 when our watches said 1158 and she would not budge even showing her the time. I was penalized in the Blackjack tournament for pushing two stacks of chips in one move onto the betting space when the lady running it told me I could not and then the next lady that took over told people to do it. Bathrooms on deck (not in the room) were often out of paper towels. The embark and disembark were nightmares. I've never had that kind of problem on any other ship. My wife said she would never want to travel on Epic again but I probably would (but not without her). After the experience, I prefer Carnival and the way they do things. I wanted to like Norwegian more. The stateroom and ship and staff were awesome. Read Less

I have cruised on Norwegian before, in the past, and generally had a great time on the ship. However, this cruise was well below my expectations. The embarkation process at the New Orleans port was an absolute and unorganized mess. The staff was slow (physically and mentally), confused, and unknowledgable...they looked so miserable and unengaged. The dining experience was horrible; it took 1.5-2.5 hours to get food some nights. The hot tubs were always closed, there were ONLY 2 pools on the entire ship. The rooms were tight and small. The ship and cabins rattled like crazy at certain times of the night and day. There was no complimentary steam and sauna in locker rooms. The art gallery auctioneer was arrogant and pushy. I can go on and on...but I won't waste my time on such a disappointment. This will likely be my last Norwegian cruise. I am utterly disappointed and upset. What a shame and a waste. Read Less

While on the cruise we did not have the best experiences a few times 1) When we arrived on board and did the spa tour we double check our time and confirmed our couples massage for Saturday November 10, 2018 for 11:30 am. When we arrived at the spa on Saturday at 11:10 am to check in we were informed it was now scheduled for noon and when I explained we confirmed on arrival (the day before) and it was at 11:30 we were told “while now it is at noon so go away until noon (while handing back our cards which clearly had the enclave sticker on them). When we came back at 11:50 we were ask to go in a room and wait until a spa member came to get us for our treatment. We waited almost a half hour before the two ladies came to take us for our massages. Our massages went well until the end when they informed us the food that was ordered had not arrived and we would need to wait until it arrived which took about 20 more minutes. As we were eating another staff member arrived with other passengers to show them the cabana we were eating in, on the spa staff’s part they tried to tell him no but he continued into the cabana with other passengers. While walking us out of the Sanctuary area one of our massage therapist advised she appreciated our patience’s since the appointment scheduled before us did not arrive on time, so it put everything behind. We booked at the time we did as we were with a large group and had other plans so our 80-minute massage that was supposed to start at 11:30 did not get done until 3:00pm making our other plans null and void. We did file out the comment card while on the ship and placed it in the drop box expecting that someone would talk to us while we were still on board but this did not occur so we can only assume this is the expected treatment you give through the spa. 2) We had a wonderful steward for our room for the first few days. Our room was always cleaned, our water was resupplied as we ordered, and things were well taken care of for those days. Then he was replaced with a steward which I can only guess was brand new. Our room was not cleaned one day all day while we were on an excursion and when we advised him we would be leaving the room in about 10 minutes to go into town he stated he was off in a half hour and would try to get to it when he returned at 5 pm. We came back from town just before late dinner and our room was still not cleaned even though the “please refresh my room” was placed outside the door. We also ordered water which we did not get for two more days when we asked for it and reminded him we had ordered it. Our room was not cleaned another day until we were at dinner this was on a sea day. The room service trays stayed in the room longer than 24 hours at one point and a cup with a snack in it was left in the room for 2 full days until I asked where I could put it to dispose of it. Also on one occasion when the room had been clean when we returned there was a dirty wet wash cloth in the closet on top of my dress shoes. My shoes are fine but I was not sure where this wash cloth came from or how it would have ended up there. We placed this wash cloth in the cart outside our room as no steward was around. At one point we took out our own room service tray and placed it on the cart in the hallway since it was still in our room. 3) We received the paperwork for the debarkation process and filled it out the same day and returned it. As I said we were with a large group so when they were all talking about the time they debarked and where they had to go we did not know what they were talking about as this was our first cruise. We did receive notice that we would get this information on the evening before debarking so we did not have any concerns at first. Then on Friday evening around 9 pm we had to go down to passenger services to ask as we still had no information. The gentlemen at the desk looked us up and asked us how many luggage tags we needed and handed us a paper when we asked him what time and where we would need to go in the morning, he said everything you need is in there and walked away. No help with figuring out the already failed system we were experiencing. 4) This was our first cruise and it was unnerving to have two deaths among passengers with one being a violent event in the middle of the night. While we had these unpleasant experiences, we are considering cruising again in the future but are unsure which cruise line we will be trying. We did make a deposit with Princess but are unsure if we will be taking advantage of the benefits as of yet. Read Less

We live 2 hours North of the Port of Miami and drive in, always parking in the Port garages. As the title states it has been 3 years since visiting the Port and on the same ship. Arriving at Port the first thing you notice is that the C & D parking garages are GONE! With the new NCL terminal (old terminal C location started ( a few pilling's have been driven and some footing poured as of 11/11/2018) building started. The loss of the additional parking and construction makes for a back up in traffic patterns but no noticeable difference in locating parking. Coming into the terminal we passed through security without issue proceeding to the "Health Questioner" station. Remember a pen although we did find an extra on the counter. Check in was a breeze, because we logged our final check in such as credit card info ahead of time. Proceeding upstairs we were assigned a number and asked to have a seat until the number was called. We told the young man that we were Platinum and he said we still had to wait for the number to be called. $0 minutes later we hear Platinum and above can go. We ask him again and he said we have to wait for the number. My wife goes to the line and asks those NCL employees who tell her she could go when all Platinum and above went … as we walked by the other NCL employee we handed him his card (Group 9) and we proceeded on board. The Getaway is a Beautiful Ship, someone mentioned that she is scheduled for dry dock soon. That would seem appropriate when one looks closely you see that she needs a little more TLC than the crew can give her, but all in all she' clean and in good repair from a lay persons view. Aboard we proceeded to sign our boys up for the drink package. We asked where and were pointed to Headliners where we stood in line to find out that was for the wine package and another employee came in from the hall and got things straightened out, yet another misunderstanding. Our rooms were ready early and so we proceeded to our room.... Dining : Buffet : Impressive yet not impressive. The best food of the week in the buffet was the cheesecake, don't get me wrong it wasn't terrible but not remarkable either. An example of the fail is that I enjoy Bacon, Jalapeno, and cheese omlet for breakfast. The last morning we went to the bbuffet where I promptly placed my order while cooking the cook asks the assistant to bring the bacon.... My omlet had 3 pieces of bacon (whole strips) in it. Cagneys : Very enjoyable evening with a wonderful dinner. Surf and turf for myself and for my Lovely wife : Prime Rib. Our complementary bottle of wine, White Zinfendel was excellent as was our meal. Exceptional service, excellent food. I have to disagree with previous reviews as my steak was great as were my shrimp. My wifes Prime Rib "Made her Day". Moderno's : This got a little more interesting stood in line for 20 min past our reservation. At the head of the line the lady took our reservation slip along wth the Comp Cert and asked us to have a seat. We sat while 2 parties were seated ahead of us at whcih point I stood back up and stood in front of the line and the hostess then seated us. From that point on the entire experience changed. The waiter was extremely helpfl in explaining the processes that keep the food flowing.... We had Filet Mignion as well as bacon wrapped mignion, lamb, pork, chicken and the most fabulous pineapple (HIGHLY RECOMMEND). Don't forget the salad bar, it is amazing Ports of Call : Roatan, Honduras : Te port doesn't seem to have grown much. Th e last time we did a Western has to be 10 years ago... I found the off ship shopping to be much like it was the last time with one exception... prices. Harvest Caye, Belize : Probably one of the best executed private facilities in exsistance today. Not a fan of the long dock walk from the ship but also see why it was done the way it was. Our sons did 2 excursions, paddle boards ($29.95) & Zipline ($89). If you book at least 48 hours in advance you can recieve your Latitudes discount. We got 2 thumbs up from both boys. I have to tell you I'm not laying down to be pushed off a couple hundred foot tower... but my boys even the timid one raved of the experience this IS 5 stars. Costa Maya, Mx : Same deal got off to go shopping around the Square/pool. Amazing growth of the shopping area which now includes a dolphin encounter for a price. Prices have gone up but here as in many places you can barter for your price. An example is my wife started working on a 1 carat mexican opal in silver fashioned into a turtle, begining asking prie $145.00 USD. Final offer from the salesman was $60 and he would add a solid silver ring to match the others on my wifes Pandora bracelet. So be sure to get what you want. Cozumel, Mx : Much as it was 10 years ago, didn't see much difference as we just got off to shop the silver shops. Here again prices have gone up but there are still many good deals to be had. OBSERVATIONS : A. It seemed a more somber cruise/crew, not alot of HAPPY WASHY WASHY. B. It also seems as though there are fewer staff doing more which maybe why the feeling of a more somber crew. Even the meet and greet consisted of mere introductions and little to no interaction with the officers as previously experienced. Here they are, Hi, bye.... Participation by members was dismal at best, concidering the numbers that had signed up. C. O'Sheehan's no longer offers Motzerella Cheese sticks or onion rings as well as the wing offerings are more limited. Here again particularly the first 2 nights service was slow. Use to be one of my favorite places on the ship to eat and snack is no longer in my top 10. Read Less

How can any cruise be bad? Some are just better than others! We had a great cruise and one thing I learned, is not all big ships are bad. We sailed with Freedom of the Seas previously and really disliked the crowds. This ship never feels crowded in spite of its size. We were told there were 4500 passengers on our week....and I couldn't believe it. Cons: Dinner service was slow. Cagney's was really slow and it blows my mind they charge $3 for tiny sides. Steak was good but our seating was at 8pm and dinner service took 2 hours. There were a lot of repeated items on the main dining menu from night to night. The toilets are automated and half the time the wouldn't flush. At the end of the cruise, many of the public stalls had "out of order" signs. The soap dispensers were also motion activated and it was frustrating. I'm certain many people walked away without using soap as a result. On occasion we noted our drinks to be made with premix, but mostly on the first day. The camera on the plank isn't working. The food quality in O Sheehans was variable. Sometimes it was great...sometimes very poor. The beds were ROCK hard..not just ours but everyone in our party. Pros: Onboard activities are minimal wait. I did the ropes course twice. We traveled with a 13 year old who was able to do the rock wall and other activities multiple times. Modernos is excellent..we practically had to roll back to our cabin. The Million Dollar Quartet was great (though a bit too long), and its not just for "old people" as I saw in a prior review. We don't generally do shows but this one was outstanding. The guy playing Jerry Lee Lewis was incredibly funny and entertaining. I didn't really care for having to make reservations for shows but we did so on the first day and it really is quite easy, including making changes. The Escape the Big top was very fun! There is a Cigar bar with small nearby smoking area on the Waterfront. I hate smoke and never really saw any huge smoking areas near the pool which has been a (gross) problem on other ships. Our room steward was great. We only had one unlike other cruises where there is a head and assistant. Micheal was very quiet but efficient. We asked for an extension cord for our cpap and distilled water, and both were taken care of promptly. Loved having a coffee maker with supplies for my first cup of joe on the balcony every morning. The main pool is adults only with a mixed family pool by the slides. I never use the onboard pools because the are hot and gross and full of urinating children. The adult pools are usually too small or crowded. I jumped in the main adult only pool after returning from port early and it was empty and COLD...very refreshing. Read Less

We were a group of 100, and my first on Celebrity Cruise Line. I have taken numerous cruises on Princess and Holland America. Each cruise line has its pros and cons. Celebrity has by far the best food. The portions are just right, not to much and you may always order more, if you are still hungry. The ship was in very good shape despite its age and future refurbishment. The one con is the TV programing. The ship location channel does not shoe any detail, The forward camera is on 1/4 corner of the TV with the captain’s welcome aboard scrolling. That never changed, no weather/seas update. Overall it was a wonderful suprise. Revelations lounge onthe upper forward deck was a great get away from the crowds. Best place to sit and take in the views and people watch the going ons on the pier when the ship is docked. Read Less

This was my first cruise, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I went on the cruise with 19 people some first timers others previous goers. I was nervous at the beginning because I didn’t know what to expect but the cruise ship far outweighed my expectations. I had a BLAST. The check In was fairy easy. We waited a bit of time to get our luggage delivered to our rooms but it was extremely helpful the buffet and bar was opened. The stateroom was nice, yes the rooms are small but it’s manageable for two people. Make sure you bring your outlet for all your chargers. Housekeeping will unplug the chargers everyday so be sure to plug in. Your key charge turns the lights on. The steakhouse, and hibachi restaurant were AMAZING!! The service from the staff AMAZING. There was always something to do. The gym was very cool and the spin class was a lot of fun. The food in the buffet was amazing. You must try the chicken salad. O’Sheans was a really cool bar/ lounge and the lady bartender from Grenada was so friendly. Also Evelyn the bartender at the adult pool was amazing. Shore excursions are pricey but worth it because you’ll want to get off the ship. MAKE SURE YOU GET BACK ON TIME!! You don’t need half the stuff you pack. Real talk!! Read Less

Specialty dining was an elegant experience with interaction with staff and unforgettable choices on the menu. Delightful! Excursions were top notch with 1 exception @ Costa Mayo & the Witch doctors who danced & took your photo for a price (we did not receive photo) I highly recommend the Dolphin interaction. Yes!! Our Favorite was Cozumel Passion Island. Love Leo& Felipe& Jose ! Embarkation & Disembark were very busy, people are people. The idea of Color bag tags is awesome! The staff: Leeza (ocean), Ivan (stateroom), Ari (Japanese steak) EXCELLENT! Mandy was / is full of joy, an expert in her field has the patience of a saint and demonstrates a sincerity of LOVE for her job. This entire crew, staff, representatives were the best so far. Always acknowledging you when in sight. Felt as if I was around friends. Looking forward to another cruise in the near future. Thank you. Had to continue to ask for Ice and towels. The Ship was Awesome, the only problem I had was the Margaritaville bar was only open to 6pm. That was the only place on the ship you could get Land shark beer. The Norwegian Escape had a bar outside where you could get this beer. The Entertainment was hands down the best, that I have seen on any cruise line. Any I have been on several. We embarkation and debarkation was smooth, we did not have to wait any extended time. We booked this cruise as part of a group of 7. This was to celebrate 3 people's birthday and reunite with old friends. We couldn't have picked a better cruise or ship! Everyone enjoyed the cruise with very few complaints. Embarkation was a breeze. We were a bit delayed due to a coast guard inspection but it was a short delay. We were on the ship by 11:30. The ship was beautiful. There were a few areas that showed wear but we know she will be going into dry dock soon. The headliners in the theater were great. We had 2 different comedians who were extremely good. I did not enjoy the Celebrity crew production shows but that is a matter of taste. The dining room staff was good but not great. There were a few mistakes made but everything was corrected quickly. My only complaint with the food was that there was not enough variety in their offerings and when choosing from the "always on the menu" items, these were not very good at all. The steak was thin and tough and the chicken dry. We enjoyed the adult atmosphere of the ship. Everyone was respectful of others and the entertainment in the lounges was very good. Very seldom did you see any children. This was by far the bet buffet (Ocean View Café) I've ever experienced. I use a mobility scooter and someone was always there to assist me with my food, drinks and finding a table. The area was easy to maneuver around. There were always places to sit. I would recommend this ship. I don't think it would be good for those with a young family or a younger crowd. Read Less

Having cruised Celebrity 4 times previously we talked our parents into there first cruise..We were really embaressed by what we had recommended to them throughout our cruise..They spent allot of there savings to come with us and I wish I could afford to reimburse them....we upgraded to concierge class and drinks package but found it to be the same size cabin as a balcony cabin only with bathrobes, umbrella and binoculars??? You always get your bottled water in your room but our parents got charged $6 dollars plus $99 cents gratuity to drink it (even though we had paid a hefty price per person for the drinks package.. We were on anytime dining another extra cost we paid and each night we had to walk the length of the dining room to a far corner dark table (having passed many empty tables for four)..where we had to use the candle to see the menu..it was terrible and service very slow. One night we had to leave our sweet orders due to going to the 9 pm show as we wouldn't get a seat in the theatre. Then the show was terrible with 30% walking out and that happened three times on this cruise. Sun beds were taken no matter what time you got to the pool with people putting towels on numerous beds then not using them. No staff monitoring the situation. The bars after paying for our drinks package ran completely out of beer, Grouse whiskey, Bailey's and Coke, lemonade and the last two days even water...come on the amount of money we paid we should have been able to get a drink. The staff were slow and we only saw our room attendant twice in 12 days..the room got made up but towels and a bathrobe went missing and we had not used it... Not saying it was stolen it just got taken from the room.
