After some negative reviews, I wanted to share our experience on The American Duchess. We took an eight day cruise in Tennessee. It was the perfect way to get back to traveling. Everyone was vaccinated for Covid and was tested the evening before we embarked. It is an older crowd and therefore, we met some fascinating and well traveled passengers. The food and drinks were wonderful, with a vast ...
My mom and I got back two weeks ago from the Columbia river cruise through the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington) with the American Queen Voyages Company. We were initially booked on this tour in April 2020 just before the world shut down. We have been dreaming of rebooking since then, and although we were somewhat nervous about cruising at this time, were reassured by the Co-Vid ...
I have been on over 20 cruises and I believe I can evaluate from experience
This was the worst cruise that I have ever been on.
The irony is that that Cruise line did not care
These were the low points;
BOAT dirty. I have dozens of photos of filth, cigarette butts, dirty dishes and glasses.
The Boat went no where at the start because it broke and they told us nothing.
They ...
NO INTERNET! You will have NO Internet the entire cruise. Make a note of that. And since you are out in the middle of a river, you will unlikely be able to get enough data on your cell network to make a difference. So, have everything you would need off of the Internet before you cruise. American Queen Voyages offers no help or assistance with this. And, the Purser's Desk is of no help for this or ...
We had been on this lines American countess in the northwest 2 years ago and had a wonderful time. With all of the Covid precautions we felt very comfortable. The ship was lovely, but the trip began with a mechanical problem that held us over in New Orleans for an extra day. Being experienced cruisers we did not find this upsetting, besides, an extra day in New Orleans is a bonus. I do have to ...
We accompanied another couple who had chosen this cruise from Memphis to New Orleans. The weekend before our cruise, New Orleans was hit by Hurricane Ida. We called the Monday before our embarkation to find out if the cruise was still on, and if our 2 night extension in New Orleans was still going to happen. We didn't get any answers until late in the afternoon the day before we were due to ...
The American Queen Steamboat Company needs to improve customer service from the company office. The experience on the American Duchess was very good and the crew went out of their way to accommodate. However, the corporate office did not care about their customers concerns about taking the cruise under these conditions and promises made by company representative were not followed up on. We had to ...
We have long had a desire to take a Mississippi river cruise its entire length, from Minneaolis to New Orleans. After a couple of outstanding river cruises in Europe, we were excited to try something in our home country. Cruises that travel the entire rivers are rare, most are sold as seven day/half river cruise. So we booked this based on research and itinerary. We do wish that later cruises were ...
Like many folks we had cabin fever after being cooped up to avoid the COVID virus. When it appeared that things were opening up, we booked a nine day cruise on American Queen Steamboat Company's (AQSC) "American Queen" from Louisville, KY to Memphis, TN. We were impressed with the health and safety precautions and felt that it would be safe to cruise in the good old U.S.A.
We arrived in ...
The American Countess is a beautiful clean new ship. The ship has large windows in the library and card rooms to watch the river, and lots of chairs on decks. I went down the Mississippi from Memphis to New Orleans. I have some foot problems and the company provide a golf cart at every landing to take people from the ship to the excursion bus, so I availed myself of that service. I loved every ...
