This was a brand new vessel that was sailing from New Orleans to Red Wing, Minnesota. We were interested in the shore excursions of which 3 did not take place. Our cabin was missing furniture, closet hangers, the thermostat did not work and only blew hot air. Engineering could not fix it. The room appeared never to have been cleaned and the bathroom faucet was very loose. We asked ...

We booked and paid for the cruise over 9 months prior to departure to ensure we had a confirmed early dinner booking as one of the party has a medical condition that prevents them from eating late at night. On arrival we were given our cruise cards which had early sitting printed on them. The Purser told us that we were scheduled for late dinner sitting. We showed him our cruise cards which he ...

Not the Best Trip

First the pros - the food was terrific and the staff is excellent. The cabins are tiny and very dark. Our first cabin was right over the engine, we could not sleep so we requested a change and got it. There were very few activities, very few places to read in comfort as the ship is so dark, and the atmosphere was like a floating rest home, all walkers and wheel chairs. I would not recommend ...

My wife and I have taken 16 cruises and this was the worst one yet. But before I get to the problems, I will cover the general items. This cruise started in Cincinnati with an over night stay at the Hilton on June 27 then cruised the Ohio river to Pittsburg on July 4. We picked this cruise because we were looking for something different from ocean cruising and European river cruises. When we ...

American Queen New Year's Cruise departing Memphis to New Orleans December 28, 2013 It is unconscionable what has happened on this cruise. Especially one that costs almost $8000 for two persons -- very overpriced! This was supposed to be a holiday cruise -- especially with Vicksburg and Natchez. One of then for New Year"s Eve fireworks. The cruise turned out to be a disaster -- except for the ...

Absoutely the worst cruise I have ever been on, overpriced, poor food quality/selection, poor coordination by management and dirty rooms with peeling wallpaper, broken heaters, dirty floors and a bathroom door that had to be held open with a waste basket. Arrived at their hotel choice on Friday for check in, which was a treat, they didn't seem to know anything about the cruise booking. Finally ...

American Queen Cruise from Saint Louis to New Orleans

The good: The boat is beautiful. Cruising down the Mississippi from Saint Louis to New Orleans was a wonderful experience. The entertainment throughout the boat, performers and musicians, was excellent. The land tours were very good, the hop on, hop off tour concept is a great idea allowing you to tour a town at your own pace. The small towns we visited were delightful, the people very ...

We have sailed on the American Queen the first year she was built. She was really beautiful then. However, there were problems with service of food. The food was always only fair and often re-served in the midnight meal or the captain's reception. In her first year, the porch only had sandwiches and ice cream during the afternoon. Through the difficulties of the Delta Queen and the Mississippi ...

We selected this cruise because we had signed on with Public TV. It was a theme cruise on the Civil War. I still do not know what is civil about any war. We arrived in New Orleans and walked over to the French Quarter and had a very nice meal at NOLA'S. A nice hotel, The Sheraton and then we were told that the river was too shallow for the boat to come into New Orleans. We were bussed to ...
