Review for a North America River Cruise on American Duchess

I want to tell you about our January trip on the American Duchess . . . To celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday, we decided to take her on a riverboat adventure! You see, Mom & Dad had, in their later years, enjoyed taking a riverboat trip almost every year and had many wonderful memories. As Dad had passed away, we felt this would be a wonderful treat for Mom – as well as marking her 16th or ...

Several members of my mom's family took a cruise on the American Duchess, from Memphis to New Orleans, Oct. 16-23. There was a pre-cruise hotel included in Memphis, the Peabody Hotel on the 15th. First, about the Hotel, we had 2 rooms on different floors. Both had not been vacuumed, there was debris on both of the room floors from previous occupant(s). The food was good, but the prices ...

This river cruise was to be the highlight ending a great tour of the Eastern USA. New Orleans and the Roosevelt hotel were great to experience. I found the American Duchess a poorly designed ship. The only access to our cabins was stairs at the front of the boat and this meant lots of walking the whole length of the boat to get to the public and dining areas at the stern. We were not allowed ...

Major disappointment

This was a major disappointment. Booked the loft suite level which is the Commodore level that comes with a butler. That concept was a joke. Never was given a tour of our suite and how to operate the mechanical drapes plus other perks that are outlined in their brochure. Food was marginal (my husband was served an untoasted english muffin) that was on the cold side already. Waiters messes up ...

My friend and I did a 7 day cruise from New Orleans to Memphis. We had a mid range cabin on Deck 4 which had a table and 2 chairs on the deck. The cabin was comfortable but not luxurious. Very basic and small. The entertainment was first class. The grand salon had tables and drink menus but it proved impossible to get service. We resorted to getting drinks from the Captains Bar before ...

We enjoyed a fabulous on this line's competitor ACL and decided to try this company on same route. We were sorely disappointed from first boarding! Other line allowed our son to aid mobility limited father to get settled in room and these folks were abrupt and rude to son, refusing to let him help and said boarding area was for ticked passengers only. Passengers were herded in groups and put ...

My wife and I selected this cruise as we have traveled the world, yet never have seen our own backyard and wanted to check off the bucket list by visiting the Mississippi River. The riverboat was evidently a converted casino boat that was nicely redone and well appointed, although still needed work in some areas. Entertainment was decent during the evening shows. Some of the entertainers ...

Regrettably, our $7K cabin had malfunctioning air conditioning. It was terribly hot so we were provided with a fan! On the fourth day of the cruise, a maintenance person fixed the air conditioning unit but the thermostat was irregular and lowered to 65 degrees. With this, this, the air conditioning vent started dripping a significant amount of water into the carpeted floor. It was only after my ...

Exciting itinerary that should have been the hi light of our music route tour of the southern states but proved anything but. Chose an A grade cabin which was tired and very small - thank heavens we had our own balcony. Clean and well tended by our cabin steward who was delightful. Entertainment was good if a little narrow in scope relying on a good band and song and dance group. The Mark ...
