For the first 4 days they were so short staffed that it was buffet only! So sick of eating lukewarm food and mass produced! Then they brought on enough workers to have service, at dinner only! Also all their other boats are fully staffed, heard that from a inside source.
One bartender per bar, when they were open, should have had at least two, long lines. Wine offered? Maybe 8 types, and I can ...
Our cruise trip began with a night at the beautiful Historic Davenport hotel in Spokane Oregon. We boarded the American Empress in Lewiston WA. We visited Hells Canyon then Richland, The Dallas, Stevenson, Astoria and disembarked in Vancouver WA. The ship was lovely and food, service and entertainment were good. In each port we found interesting and/or scenic things to see and do - and ...
In midst of wave of new Covid cases, safety is not a big concern. They spray the luggage, but mask enforcement is minimal if at all. It has been shown that contacting Covid from surfaces is at the bottom of the list. No social distancing in any venue. Supposedly they follow state law when docked and on land, but not when moving on water. If you need mask protection when at the dock, you ...
The ship is beautiful! Our room with private balcony was worth it. The food was plentiful and mostly good. The crew was mostly helpful. A few never smiled. (Bad contract maybe?) The Riverlorian was one of the best in the nation. Learned a lot. Entertainment on the stage was over the top. Weather was perfect! Room was well taken care of. Off ship Hop On Hop Off was good. Those are all the good ...
Beautiful scenery, great entertainment, fair excursions, rude & inept customer service, and the most grossly mis-managed food service operation I’ve seen in my entire life. AQSC puts the “cuss” back in customer service.
This was our 10th cruise (river and ocean) and by far the absolute “bottom of the barrel”. Here are my observations (from best to worst) and what you can expect from an AQSC ...
Wonderful 14-day cruise down the Mississippi River for my wife and I.
This was a retirement celebration re-scheduled from the same cruise last year which was cancelled due to Covid.
The pre-cruise hotel in Bloomington, MN was nice and we were able to start getting acquainted with other cruisers. The pre-cruise check-in was smooth and easy. No Covid testing required, just show your ...
July 8-11: Pre-Cruise
First: my wife (“The Missus”) and I had a taste of river cruising almost a decade ago, sailing up the Danube on Ama Waterways. We had a fabulous time. But it’s a PITA to get from the West Coast to Europe. We’ve been on over forty ocean cruises on various cruise lines. We had never sailed the byways of North America. This was our reason to try American Queen. Not so ...
For our first post-COVID adventure, we decided to see more of the USA, and a riverboat cruise down the mighty Mississippi has always sounded alluring. We sailed downstream, from Memphis to New Orleans, on the beautiful and stately American Queen. We spend three nights pre-cruise in Memphis, one of which was included in the cruise fare. The cruise line hotel was The Peabody, "The South's Grand ...

We loved our whole trip. Flew into New Orleans the day before and had a nice stay in the hotel included in the price. Transfers to the boat was very nice and easy. Once on board were meet with snacks and we went to our room. Bags waiting for us. We could not stop at our first location and used that day to cruise up the river to Baton Rouge. We did the hop on hop off bus tour. Drivers were great ...
