This cruise goes from Clarkston to Portland. The first excursion we took was the JetBoat Tour of Hell’s Canyon. I have never seen anything like the terrain. We saw BigHorn Sheep, Deer, Turkeys, and a bald Eagle. The river is clear and beautiful.
This cruise was wine themed so we had wine tastings onboard and two dinners with wine pairings. We also did the Red Mountain Vines to Wine ...

Hi! Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your American Empress sailing. We are so glad that the excursions, food, and onboard experience...
The boat was period décor throughout. Having a little balcony was relaxing. I was on a Road Scholar booked trip so excursions were included and well arranged. Learning about the hardships of the Discovery Expedition, it was surprising that the trip was completed.
The food in the main dining room was sumptuous with a variety of choices. I personally opted for the River Grill. It was more ...

Hello water kid! We appreciate your kind words and are thrilled you had an excellent time on American Empress. We hope to welcome you back aboard in the future!...
My mom and I got back two weeks ago from the Columbia river cruise through the Pacific Northwest (Oregon and Washington) with the American Queen Voyages Company. We were initially booked on this tour in April 2020 just before the world shut down. We have been dreaming of rebooking since then, and although we were somewhat nervous about cruising at this time, were reassured by the Co-Vid ...
July 8-11: Pre-Cruise
First: my wife (“The Missus”) and I had a taste of river cruising almost a decade ago, sailing up the Danube on Ama Waterways. We had a fabulous time. But it’s a PITA to get from the West Coast to Europe. We’ve been on over forty ocean cruises on various cruise lines. We had never sailed the byways of North America. This was our reason to try American Queen. Not so ...
This was the third actual cruise for the American Empress after the reopening. We started from Clarkston WA and sailed down the Snake and Columbia Rivers. The cruise was fairly full and the crew was slightly short handed. But the officers and assigned people filled in marvelously well. The cabins are small and compact on the Empress but most have private verandas. Food was American style, ...

We want to thank you for the special recognition of Chelsea and Lawrence! You are right – we are so very lucky to have them both on board. Your 5 Star review means a lot...
My husband and I took this cruise in December and we were pleasantly surprised. The food in the dining room was good but not always as hot as I would prefer. The same is true in the Front Porch buffet. The servers and staff are very friendly and attentive and our housekeeper was always there for us. The entertainment is good, but the piano player was a little off key at times. The hop on hop off ...

Over the recent Christmas holiday, we had the privilege of cruising on the Grand American Queen Steamboat. We cannot say enough about how much we enjoyed the experience.
The staff and crew went out of their way to provide an absolutely wonderful experience. There was some minor improvements necessary in some areas, but what holiday would be complete if everything was perfect.
Ship – They ...

Love American Queen Steamboat Company and the American Queen Steamboat. Cruised many times with this company and it remains our favorite. The American Queen is a classic riverboat giving you the feel of the old steamboat days, but with all the conveniences of a modern cruise ship. The boat has a elegant theme with a casual, easy going and relaxed atmosphere. The cabins are comfortable with ...

In November I traveled with a small group of 10 on the American Empress steamboat-style Cruise. The group absolutely LOVED the trip and the ship!
The food was incredible- truly top notch! We even had lobster tail! The meals were always artfully prepared and served by the kindest, warmest staff I’ve encountered on a cruise ship. Every meal was an event. During our scenic rides cruising the ...

Our first introduction to American river travel was on the American Queen, and our journey did not disappoint. In fact, our voyage on the American Queen wasn’t just my first river cruise… it was my first cruise ever. Overall, I would rate both this boat and our experience a 5/5.
When we arrived at the dock of the boat, we were a bit awe-struck. The paddlewheeler was unlike anything we had ever ...
