Not what I expected

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Duchess

I chose this cruise because a few years ago we went on a American Queen Voyage. It was wonderful. Since it was the same company I thought this would be too. A few days before our voyage they changed our dining time to 7.30. I tried to change it back but they said it was because of the CDC guidelines. (some people did get it changed) They also sent us an email saying that there would be dining in ...

Disappointed .............

Review for a U.S.A. Cruise on American Duchess

We were really disappointed in this recent December cruise from Nashville to Memphis. First the many positive things.... The food was really good, ample and varied. The staff everywhere on the ship were very friendly and helpful, especially the dining room staff. The ship seemed to be well maintained and clean and safe from the virus. The evening entertainment was probably above ...

AQSC Duchess "Mighty Mississippi" - Red Wing, MN to New Orleans, LA

Wonderful 14-day cruise down the Mississippi River for my wife and I. This was a retirement celebration re-scheduled from the same cruise last year which was cancelled due to Covid. The pre-cruise hotel in Bloomington, MN was nice and we were able to start getting acquainted with other cruisers. The pre-cruise check-in was smooth and easy. No Covid testing required, just show your ...

We loved our whole trip. Flew into New Orleans the day before and had a nice stay in the hotel included in the price. Transfers to the boat was very nice and easy. Once on board were meet with snacks and we went to our room. Bags waiting for us. We could not stop at our first location and used that day to cruise up the river to Baton Rouge. We did the hop on hop off bus tour. Drivers were great ...

What to know - no glitz, no crowds, no pools. Instead - beautiful scenery, friendly helpful staff, daily enrichment, low key enjoyable entertainment, menus that reflect locations, and interesting ports. What to do - Included with your cruise, at no additional cost, at each port, is - bus, guide(s), admission to various sites. (‘Premium’ tours are available for additional purchase). We’ve ...

Overall a Wonderful sailing down the Mississippi River

In December of 2019, I had been fortunate to have an absolutely amazing trip aboard the American Duchess. We had sailed from Memphis to New Orleans, and although there were only 100 people or so on board, everything felt lively and populated, but not overly populated like on an ocean-going cruise ship. The boat had Christmas theming since it was the holidays, and everything felt warm and ...

Crew and Company Goes Above and Beyond

Sometimes, the best way to gauge a company's commitment to customer service is to experience mishaps and witness how the crew and company react. We were on the December 2 sailing from Memphis to Nashville on the American Duchess. The first issue occurred when one of the propellers malfunctioned. We were immediately given this information and were also informed that we were going to have to ...

The Lower Mississippi at Very High Water

As experienced ocean cruisers we chose this cruise up the Mississippi in late April to see some southern states before the summer heat. This year the heavy spring rains within the Mississippi watershed had created major upstream flooding; however, the only impact to our cruise was two of our docks were damaged and unusable and one of our planned stops was canceled. Overall, the cruise was great ...

Delightful Getaway

This cruise was chosen by a neighbor in my community, Sun City Palm Desert California, who organizes group trips. I was fortunate to be invited to join the group, and because I was cruising without my husband (who stayed at home with our dog), I was paired with a roommate who is also a neighbor in our community. There were 34 people in our group. The cruise we were on is the Lower Mississippi ...
