The grand mother recommended the cruise with Royal Caribbean. The good food was great the staff where friendly the room attendant was great the waiter in the dinning room was great. The bad 2 broken hot tubs, Broken ice cream machine, unwashed windows, and rust abounding on the exterior of the ship. Now the Ugly I dropped my children off at the teen center on the ship for a "in room scavenger hunt" as described in the teen flyer. I come to find out it was a all over the ship scavenger hunt how easy at 10 pm. at night would it be for teen to be abducted and raped and thrown overboard? Brought the issue to guest services it was never addressed!!!!!!! More ugly RC claimed a port of call at coco cay which I hear from others frequently is cancelled so they flat out lied and offered no other port of call. Last of the ugly Shore excursions were great but very short not a good value. Read Less

We chose the 9 Day out of Baltimore on the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas largely because it fit perfectly in my kids' Spring Break. I understand that the Grandeur is one of RC's smaller ships, but it really needs to either add more activities for the kids to do or acknowledge it really should be an adult-only ship. Yes, there was a rock wall... that was only open a few hours twice a day. Yes, there was a kids center... that was open even less and when it was open it was so packed my kids had no interest because it was so small. The pool was also small with signs that limited it to 34 persons and also stated that anyone in swim diapers were not allowed to use it. The entire ship was full of children with nothing to do while the parents had the casino, the shopping, and the bars open all day long. Again, it really was an adult-centered ship. I overheard someone discussing numbers, and the previous sailing of that ship only had roughly 35 kids onboard while our sailing had over 400. Kids were on Spring Break, so I can't say I'm surprised, and I really wish they had taken the time to expand the hours or added activities centered on the kids given that drastically increased number. It's not like RC didn't know they were coming. Many of the activities on the ship that my kids really wanted to be apart of, including the crew vs. guests volleyball game and the belly flop competition, were only for 18 and over. The kids were left out, and it was disappointing. They are paying customers too, and we spent a lot money for them to be there only to end up playing board games in the Centrium. Thank God we brought them. This was our third cruise, and our first on Royal Caribbean. While I might be open to one of RC's larger ships with things like water slides and basketball hoops, I doubt I will sail on the Grandeur with our kids again any time soon. It isn't a ship for them. We chose this cruise because of the port stops. This has been our 5th RC cruise and our 44th cruise since December 2011, so we have a lot to compare this to. The entire ship needs upgrading. On 3 different days, there were times when the toilets did not flush. The public bathrooms were not taken care of very well. There were occasional smells of sewer gas in our bathroom and other places around the ship. Our cabin steward was a ghost; we saw him for the first time on day 8. There was a fire alert one evening where most crew reported to their stations. Thankfully it was just smoke from a transformer and we did not need to be evacuated. Breakfast in the Windjammer was very disappointing. Lunch and dinner ranged from fair to good, with adequate choices. The main pool was closed on 2 separate occasions due to "accidents" and it needed to be drained and cleaned. During these times, screaming, jumping, unsupervised children were allowed in the adult only pool. The crew (with the exception of our cabin steward ) were very friendly and helpful. The entertainment was excellent; diverse, and very professional and entertaining. Overall, we give this cruise a 5 on a scale of 1-10. Read Less

Embarkation was easy and for the first time we used the self-assist baggage function for debarkation and were pleased with how easily we got off the ship -- we were through customs and in a taxi to the airport by 7:25. The quality of the food has continued to deteriorate but given the amount of the fare, this is to be expected. We found that the casino was abnormally smokey, but this was made worse due to some people coming to the casino strictly to smoke. Would prefer that the whole interior of the ships be made non-smoking for health reasons-passengers and crew members. This was the first time we sailed out of Baltimore during spring break and didn't realize there would be almost 600 kids on the ship, more than 25% of total passengers. We especially felt bad for crew members who had to babysit these kids, monitor them in the hallways where they ran day and night and hid from parents, and clean up after them in the Windjammer.
