I choose this cruise for convenience as I live in Maryland and it was close to my birthday. Me and my girlfriend are both in our 30s and had a great time. Service on ship was excellent wether your talking about the MDR our room stewards etc.. We ate at chops and it was delicious we’re on the other royal ships we have been in. Izumi was also good we have eaten on other ships and then experience there was by far the best. I read a lot about this shop draws a older crowd and I could see that but it might just be when you go and your itinerary. Also read before we went that the shop shuts down at 10 or 11 o’clock which in my experience is also not true. They had live music in the centrum until at least midnight and one of the nights we went to the night club on board and people were still dancing partying etc and it was past 2am. The ship is small and for a young active couple I think 5 or maybe 7 nights max would be the perfect length on this ship as I think any longer I would have started to get board. Bermuda was awesome and beautiful and hopefully will be able to go back soon. Overall I had a great time and at the end of the day your vacation is all about what you make it. Read Less

The food was good the service was very good all the staff was very attentive about the meal and they checked on every on at the table to make sure every thing was presented well and tasted very good. The ships interior was kept up very well but the exterior needed much work such as paint and windows also needed cleaning. The cabins were very clean the rugs wear old but in good shape the same for the furnishings. The embarkation and disembarking at Baltimore pier was the most efficient that we ever experienced in a long time. We wish that all Royal Caribbean port of call was as efficient as this port. When it comes to ports and shore excursions we believe some of there prices are to high depending on distance form the ship duration of excursion and type of excursion . we found that if we just take a cab to your were you want to go it casts about one quarter of what the ship charges if you leave a enough time you will be back in plenty of time before the ship sails. Everything about the cruise overall was great, as it always is on Royal Caribbean. The food in the main dining hall was excellent as was the waiter and his assistant. Entertainment was very good. The singers, dancers and band were exceptional. The entertainmant director (Mike) did a very fine job in handling everything. I was extremely happy the way they saluted all veterans, police and first responders. I am a veteran and proud of it and it felt very good to be recognized! The only "downers" were the hard seas from Baltimore to Bermuda due to weather (which even Royal Caribbean could not control), and the amount of time in port . A five day cruise does not give enough time to see much of Bermuda's sites and history and spend some time relaxing at the pool or other shipboard activities. This was the fastest embarkation service of all our cruises taken. We will be scheduling a longer cruise to the Bahamas in January. Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the itinerary having never been to Charleston, SC, Cape Canaveral, or Miami, and the fact that we could drive to the Baltimore terminal. Our cabin was very roomy and clean and our cabin steward was very good and accommodating We chose to eat in the main dining room for our dinners and were very pleased with the selections and quality of the food. Our dining room stewards were very good, polite, and very informative. We enjoyed the Windjammer Cafe for our breakfasts and lunches even though we had to walk the length of the ship to get there from our cabin. We feel the way this cafe was set up was much more user friendly than other ships that we have been on. We walked Charleston in the AM and took a bus excursion in the afternoon which gave us the opportunity to view much of the city which is very beautiful with lots of historical buildings, We took the 6 hr excursion to the Kennedy Space Center and were in awe of the history and all that we were able to view. Our tour guide was informative and the bus took us to Saturn 5 first, then to the Visitor Center and we were able to explore on our own until it was time to meet the bus to return to the ship. We did not have any planned excursions for the remainder of the trip. We did walk around the terminal area in Miami but with a record breaking 91 degree day, we didn't stay out too long.. We walked the shops in Nassau the first day, and visited Atlantis the second day. Atlantis does not allow visitors to see much without a pass, but they do allow you in the casino. The straw market has changed since we were last there in the early 80's. Now in a closed building and quite dark and if one is claustrophobic, not the place to be. The taxis wish to fill their minivans before moving on so one sits and waits for other passengers. This is only the second time we have sailed Royal Caribbean. We found that they could have had better directions and information on the ship and were lacking some coordination with their activities. At some times the planned activities did not take place where it was noted in the daily news. They also do not provide any world news, so one does not know what is going on in the world unless one is connected to the Internet. We did attend the two premier shows-one of "Britain's Finest" and the other "The Las Vegas Tenors" who were excellent. Embarkation and Disembarkation went smoothly. All in all, it was a good trip for us and we are senior citizens. Read Less

I chose this cruise for several reasons. Our first cruise was with,Royal Caribbean, second with Carnival. The Royal Caribbean cruise was so much better we decided to go back. The dates worked well with our schedule and I really liked the idea of a 9- night cruise. Baltimore is only a 3- hour drive and this made it appealing. Embarkation and disembarkation was extremely easy and most of the personnel were friendly. The food quality in the main dinning room was mediocre. The presentation of the food was nice but was often bland and lacked seasoning. Even food promoted as spicy was plain. We were also disappointed that there were fewer free restaurant options. You should not have to pay extra money for good food, that's one of the main reason you choose a cruise over other vacations. Stay away from the art auction, staff is very pushy, fake and aggressive. However the service throughout the rest of the ship was outstanding especially Leah and Dejan in the main dining room. The Casino staff was helpful patient while explaining the various games. Paul the Cruise Director was wonderful and the entertainers were fantastic. We really had a good time and definitely would go back again. Read Less

Leaving from Baltimore was a breeze. Stayed at the Best Western right up the highway from the pier, right off 95, the night before. Free shuttle to pier and parking was included for the 13 days. Check in was quick and easy. We were on the ship by 10:45am and felt like we gained an extra day. Crew was very friendly as were other shipmates! We had a room just off the Centrum, so everything was quick and easy to get to on the ship. Ate in the Windjammer for breakfast (opened at 6:30am) and lunch. Very good variety of foods every day. Ate at Park Café when back on the ship later after an excursion. Had early, 5:30, seating for dinner in Main Dining room. Staff was friendly in MDR, but service inconsistent. Timing off a few nights. Food was good, but not exceptional. Big push to get you to go to specialty restaurants, but we have excellent Italian and steak houses nearby, so we were not interested. Two nights the same steaks from the specialty restaurant were discounted and could be served in main dining room. Filet for $10 and T-bone for $16. Wide variety of shows; comedian, singers, dancers, pianist, juggler, ventriloquist, hypnotist. Plenty of activities. Big screen on pool was not used that much. Wished they had shown a film on sea days, but it was short clips of mostly blooper type activities. Pool is small in both open deck and solarium, so it did get crowded in afternoon. Chairs easy to secure. No issues there. Ports were great and easy off and on. St Kitts we were berthed at an alternative commercial port so taxi needed to access shops which left many folks not too happy. I tried one RC excursion in Antigua and was not happy as we had wait for late folks who actually were already on the bus. Lack of communication. Private excursion through Viator was excellent in Martinique. Shared taxi for beaches in St Kitts, Barbados. Went on own in St Lucia which made taxi ride more expensive, but beaches were great. Always felt welcomed on all the islands. Read Less

We chose Grandeur of the Seas based on a previous cruise on it to Bermuda - TOP tier entertainment; not so much this cruise. Staff in the main dining room were absolutely EXCEPTIONAL but the food was typically not not though the staff would quickly remedy that. The ship was probably a 9 out of 10 on cleanliness - the cabin was a 10 on cleanliness and upkeep by the steward. The ports and excursions - two out of four were interesting and two were boring. The worst part of the cruise was being told that no Accessible Rooms were available, AFTER being told I had one. Then, encountering a woman who was upset because she was put in an Accessible Room, and told when she asked for another room that "none were available." Meanwhile, I had asked if RC would check to see if there were Accessible Rooms given to people who did not NEED one, and I was told they would check that, but ultimately, I was told that none were available to switch with. While our cabin was clean and well tended to, it was terribly cramped and using the shower was a nightmare. Apparently, once assigned a room, Royal Caribbean will NOT even attempt to get you into an appropriate room. The did take the coffee table out of our cabin to make SOME room for my power wheelchair. The cabin was given an "Excellent" rating because, while too small, it was tended too by a VERY accommodating steward. Read Less

I was not excited about driving into Baltimore Harbor but found the access eased by signage and staff at hand. Parking lot was tricky. More direction could be given when paying the parking fee when entering. Overall, my accommodations with my daughter were excellent. The Stateroom attendant immediately noticed a light out and had it taken care of when we entered. The dining staff, main dining room, remembered our names and greeted us each evening. Problems we encountered: extremely hot water, be careful. Announcements by the crew were too loud and fast, considering the dialect as well. Could not absorb what was said. Dining very good, but some entrees were not enjoyed as much, though eaten. I liked seeing how the ship was anchored at each port, and for a fee, you can see how the ship is operated, met some of the crew, learned how the meals were prepared for so many, the bakery, the laundry, how the trash is prepared for pickup back in Baltimore, etc. Entertainment offered variety for all ages. Liked the least was shore excursions and I would advise choosing carefully, maybe not planning them at all and waiting until embarking each shore and talking with tour guides there. Look at all options for getting around if you choose to do the excursion on your own. I liked the city bus and the hop on/hop off buses, features of both. I do not feel that enough information is given or known about the excursions if planning aboard ship. You might consider also reading about the city you are going to visit before going there. The Boston tour guide was well informed of the history, in spite of traffic congestion and noise, (walking tour). The tour guide on the train of the Reversing Rapids Railway chatted too much about impertinent information and an attempt to steer her to more relevant information was futile. This excursion was most disappointing for the amount paid. I would travel again on Granduer of the Seas, and be more prepared to get the most out of the trip. Read Less

We choose this cruise for a couple of reasons. First, it was a cruise that would actually be on our 53rd anniversary. and second it was out of Baltimore. It made it a no brainer since it was Royal Caribbean and we had cruised with them before. The crew on Royal Caribbean are always friendly and more than willing to do what ever it takes to make sure you have a wonderful vacation experience. The ship is kept clean at all times and the entertainment is wonderful and none stop. One group was so amazing, of course they played and sang all of the music that I loved as a teenager and I couldn't get enough of them. We enjoyed the casino very much and I even won a little money. It was great fun. They had games and all kinds of activities for adults, teens and little ones. No one was left out. I cannot say enough about the food and the wonderful people who served us. They were wonderful and made sure we were well taken care of. You could have all you wanted. They even accommodated special diets or needs. The deserts were so good you just wanted to eat more and more. You could eat in the Great Gatsby Dining room or go to the Windjammer Buffet. There are several other places to eat , but some restaurants are not included in the prices of the cruise. The cabin we had was an outside cabin with a nice size window. We were on the third deck and not too close to the elevators. It was quiet and comfortable with a private bathroom and a nice size closet. They have two beds which can be put together for a queen size bed or apart for a comfortable twin size. If you leave them apart, you would have more room in the cabin. We had no problem either Getting on the ship or disembarkation. It runs like a well oiled machine. Just make sure not to lose you "Sea Pass" they give you. Everything is tied up to that pass, it is also your cabin key. It is also your credit card to buy what ever you may want to purchase. Believe me, they have wonderful deals aboard ship. I think I discovered most of them! Once the ship is underway, spend your time exploring the ship to find out where everything of interest is. It will save you time when you know what activities you want to do and where they are held. Each day you will get a little paper that gives you the next days events so you can plan out your day. They have plenty of information on line before you go on your cruise to help you to choose what excursions you might be interested in. There are many things to consider and there are many reviews about each one. Do your research to make your vacation a wonderful one that you will remember. One more tip. Join the Crown and Anchor Club. It costs nothing to join and it gives perks to members. I'm glad we joined. Read Less

I enjoyed our cruise to Bermuda overall. The staff was diverse and friendly, especially our stateroom attendant and main dining room waiter, which we very much appreciated. The staterooms were clean and surprisingly well-sized for a basic interior room with a queen bed. I was disappointed in how few healthy or vegetarian options there were, both in the Great Gatsby main dining room and especially in the buffet-style Windjammer Cafe. I was also disappointed in how hard it was to connect to the ship's Wi-Fi network due to its bad coverage throughout the ship and the number of times my devices dropped off the network due to poor signal strength. I don't really have an issue with the speed of the Internet on the ship's Wi-Fi since I understand why it would be slow in the middle of the ocean (low latency and limited satellite bandwidth), but the Wi-Fi network itself should have a stronger signal (especially in the staterooms) and should not be so prone to device drop-offs. Embarkation took a long time due to the processing of crew members following the ship being in dry dock. This delayed the ship leaving port by 3 hours but thankfully RCI put in some time in the itinerary in order for us to get to Bermuda on time. I feel the cruise singers and dancers were also affected by the dry dock time as their shows were opening night performances and it showed (one male dancer even kicked a female dancer in the head - oops!). I loved King's Wharf/Dockyards - it has all you need! Shops, restaurants, historical and social attractions and beach! Advice: don't pay for the excursion to the beach- admission to Snorkel Park Beach is only $5 (versus the $35 RCI will charge you!). We could have stayed longer in Bermuda to explore more of the island, but I know I will be back in the future. Our stateroom attendant was top-notch, and our wait staff appeared to be newer in my time dining, but they were still polite and professional. Thanks to Cruise Critic for the Park Cafe advice - it was my new favorite food spot! The cruise entertainment staff could have used a pick-me-up (not enough energy for the job), but Tonya and the Grandeur orchestra were fantastic. Loved the Veterans Ceremony and Parade of Nations - be sure to bring the camera for those! My family and I (all adults) took a relaxing pace to our cruise and weren't disappointed. Of the 2,053 passengers, only 100 were kids, so folks looking to get away from children should definitely cruise in May! Read Less

On St. Lucia rude & pushy Vishal at Diamonds Int. (What’s the matter lady, don’t you like diamonds?) And Vijay at Gold Mine, pushy like a hungry used car salesman. Amit, Diamond lounge concierge and John, Diamond lounge bar waiter both very good. Cabin attendant Edison was most accommodating to us. Accessible officers on this ship were good. They were friendly and genuinely concerned for providing a good cruise experience for us. Table 335 terrible service. Poor assistant waiter. Main waiter and head waiter disappeared for as much as 15 minutes at a time. Other tables finished dessert before we received our main course. Waiters at this table on previous cruise (consecutive) were great. Windjammer napkins were not dry the last few days of the cruise. Music in lounges and public spaces was too loud most of the time. Desserts generally lacked flavor, especially that wonderfully large apple pie on the last day in the Windjammer. It needs more spices and a flakier crust. WiFi service is overpriced for what is delivered. The connection to the RCCL web site via the ship computers was painfully slow. I hope dry dock upgrades will resolve the connection issue. Like the new bed frames and mattresses. Much easier to store the suitcases and more comfort. Cabin 2073 shower drain gurgles when water is run in the wash basin. Something is not properly vented or a vent pipe may be plugged. Vanity lights glow and flicker in the early morning 2-6 AM. This was fixed in 2069 on the previous cruise. All but 2 head-liner acts were disappointing. The poor guy who sang Happy Days theme was lousy. At this point in his career maybe he should focus on writing. Also, his stage presence was uncoordinated and nervous, like he didn’t trust the ship’s crew to be able to follow a program. I saw many people leaving most of the head-liner shows in the early show. I think RC saved too much money when they hired the lady piano player. Nexus 4 has possibilities to grow. I really liked the Real Time Band who will be on the Alaska cruises. The ship is a comfortable old friend on which we have cruised several times. She is in generally good shape but getting a little shabby in places. The life boat that was dropped on the cruise before this one had not yet been replaced. Read Less

I was with swing dance friends. We chose this ship because we live in Baltimore and wouldn't have to fly. We could also dance every night. For the price, it was very nice (you don't pay for a Chevrolet and get a Cadillac). Here's the good: My window cabin was roomy and the cabin steward was attentive. The window exterior was dirty. RCL did not wash it for the whole trip. The dining room has many windows. We watched the sunset while having dinner - nice. The theater shows were very good, some of the best I've seen on cruise ships. The entertainment activities were good, but many of them should have been held out on the pool deck instead of in the centrum. The solarium adult pool was very nice, but they didn't turn the water heater on until people complained that the water was cold. Service in the dining room was generally good, but sometimes slow. We had to ask for the hand-ground pepper or the waiters would not even tell us they had it. Some of the beef dishes were terrible and some of them were good. The chicken dishes was very good. The house band in the Centrum was lousy. They played little music that was good for swing, ballroom or even Latin dancing. They hadn't even heard of most of the famous old rock & Roll songs. Free style dancers would probably like them. This was my second cruise on the Grandeur and on both cruises parents would let their toddlers and small children run around on the dance floor. Dance floors are not day care centers. Many of our dances are athletic. We move around a lot. Although we try to avoid them, a small child could be injured. RCL should tell parents to keep small children off the dance floor. The house Caribbean band was poor too. Every song they did was the same. Read Less

We traveled Oct 13-22,2016. We picked the cruise because of the ports. The ports were good to excellent. It was easy for us to get on the ship. We arrived at 1:30 and walked on the ship by 1:50. We were able to carry on our bags right to our room. We had an interior and it was clean. We had great service with the room. The cruise was very good with excellent service in MDR. We had ATD. We went mostly at 5:00. It was busy, but service was very good to excellent. We never waited and sat at the same table every night. We had a table for 2. The entertainment was hit and miss. We were on the Grandeur last year, so some was a repeat for us. We could not complain about the weather it was great to be in the north, it was 60's and 70's. We booked three excursions through RCCL and two private excursions. The only issue I had was the way RCCL disembarked the excursions booked through RCCL. So excursions met on the ship and were escorted off. Some booked through RCCL met on the pier and had to get off the best way possible without missing the excursion. RCCL needs to review this process to help all paying for an excursion to get off the ship. All of the excursions were very good. Boston we toured Boston, Lexington and Concord through RCCL. It was mostly history. Portland was a private tour and we toured the city and lighthouse. This was an o.k. tour. Bar Harbor was a private tour{Olis Trolley) and was excellent. St. John we used RCCL excursion. We rode a train to see the reversing river and then hop on hop off of city. It was an o.k. tour. Halifax was also through RCCL and was excellent. We visited Peggy's cove and titanic graves. We used self-assist to leave and were the first to leave. We were off the ship and in the car in 10 minutes. This was our second time on Grandeur. We would cruise on the Grandeur again. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever. It was a gift from me to my husband. This was perhaps an extremely challenging cruise for all onboard being that we were facing rough seas due to 2 hurricanes. First, it clearly states that you should be at the port at least 90 minutes early for circumstances such as this. Maybe 10% did not make the ship because we needed to leave 1 hour early due to the Chesapeake Bay closing. I was on deck 4. Yes it was very rocky. I did see the motion sickness bags available. All areas that had outside access were blocked for passenger safety when the Seas got really rough. This cruise itinerary was changed a few times from Bermuda to Canada and finally to New Jersey because of the rough seas. I did not see much water leakage at all in the areas where I was. I was NEVER confined to my room. It was a concerning situation, especially since it was my first cruise, however I felt RC handled it well. After seeing what weather did hit Bermuda I would say that RC made the best decision they could other than possibly cancelling the cruise. NYC was gorgeous weather and the free ferry for the passengers was generous. Going back to Baltimore was wonderful cruising weather. Also the generosity of RC to give 100% cruise credit shows to me that they really care about their passengers. All of the service on our ship was amazing, from Katie our housekeeper, to Andre our activity director, to Algin and Boniface out waiters, to Paul the cruise director and of course out captain who steered us into safety. I also am so greatful to Crystal Crumlic from Tripping With Crystals Travel in Mechanicsburg, PA for constantly being in touch with me when possible for land side updates. Read Less

I boarded the Grandeur on Sat. Sept. 24th. Boarding processes went quite smoothly. Once onboard proceeded to Windjammer as no access to rooms until 1pm. Windjammer on embarkation day is always a tad insane, and this day was no different. Food options were plentiful, and staff worked as fast as they could to turn tables for others. Speaking of food, I will say the food onboard has definitely taken a notch up from last time onboard. Everything very tasty, and I saw when guests debated about their choices the staff brought them the other meal option so they could try both. Old school cruising is coming back on the end. The room onboard was very clean, but you can tell she will need to go into dry dock for some cosmetic touches. balcony doors rusted in places, balconies in general all need to be re-sanded and stained. Staff overall couldn't have been nicer. As since she is a more smaller and intimate ship, one with no zip lines, central parks, water slides etc. the crew is what makes guests return. They are engaging, friendly, and accommodating and you truly come off with a friend. Onboard entertainment truly blew me away this trip! Earl Turner a Vegas Entertainer was the shows headliner this trip. For the first time in a long time, I can honestly say it was the BEST show I've seen while at sea. He had the entire audience from start to finish, singing, laughing and just all-in-all have the best time ever! I hear he does preform throughout the year on other RCCL ships, and I need to find his schedule as I'll definitely make plans to sail again with RCCL when he is on board!!! The other entertainers/ staff were also exceptionally good as well. The atrium show Seasons was lovely and breathtaking. The hotel director also was active with the atrium shows and events, which I've not seen before and that was a nice touch. I will say the most touching moment on the cruise was at the end of the goodbye show, last night of cruise the band played the National Anthem and EVERYONE was singing and paying their respect, which actually brought a tear to my eye. Very Proud of RCCL there. Only suggestions for faster service. All other lines, have a Platinum + member level designated counter area but on RCCL they do not. So be prepared to wait in a line at Guests Services sometimes. Also in the casino if you want cash to play with, they will not give you cash, but Vouchers for that amount to ensure you put it into the machines. Quirky. Notice to Diamond Members and above. The rules of allowing a guest to join you in the diamond lounge has changed, and you will NO longer be permitted to do so. So if you are traveling w/ a friend that has not earned the perks, forget about going into the lounge during your cruise to relax with your friend. You will just have to go to another regular lounge instead. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed sailing on Grandeur again! You will actually love Mustering on this ship, as they keep your attention :-) Smooth sailing everyone, and now looking forward to going on Allure in 2 weeks. Check back afterwards! Read Less
