Hopefully R/C Grandeur is going to get a refit or makeover in March-April '17. The cabin furniture, mattress, and wear items are starting to show its age and are in need of replacement. Additionally, Grandeur needs a paint job badly. As for our cruise, the cruise director was a drip and seemed to be disengaged. It seemed like he would make his announcements twice a day, but was never seen around and about. The ship's activities are sporadic and marginally interesting. It's obvious that the main goal is to get you involved in one of the fee generating activities or into the casino. Therefore, its imperative that you bring some enjoyable reading materials (my wife and I are avid readers). If you are a big reader, this is the cruise for you. On other past Grandeur cruises, the cruise director was more actively engaged. My wife and I really enjoyed the cruise; however, I would say the food was very average and uninteresting--I'd classify it as mid-grade cafeteria food. Outside of the chocolate chip cookies/oatmeal cookies, the desserts were poor--except for the specialty restaurants, which were quite good. The specialty restaurant 'Chops,' served up some tasty steaks, sides, and fantastic desserts. The sushi restaurant was also very good. It's too bad that the only way to get a truly memorable meal it to dine at a specialty restaurant at an extra charge. Overall, a good cruise for the money, but the dining is really starting to slip along with other cost cutting measures! The ship is definitely in need of a repainting. It's starting to look like a Somalian mother-boat pirate ship with all of the rust on it. Read Less

Ship is 20 years old and shows it. But that doesn't begin to show how Royal Caribbean is falling down on their promises of WOW ! We have been on 30 cruises of which 8 were RC's, and 6 were on this ship "The Grandeur of the Seas". We started cruising on the Grandeur in 2004 and have steadily seen the ship deteriorate as well as the service. Lets start with the cabin which was adaquit for 2 people , though it was aged and in need of many minor repairs, even so ,the room steward "Moses" did a great job of taking care of our every need. Dinning was another story : Windjammer was unmanaged , as they were constantly out of silerware, napkins, certain foods, and if you were lucky enough to get a plate of food and napkin, and silverware then you had to search for a clean table , as most were piled high with dirty dishes which means that there is not enough staff to take care of the eating venue. The Great Gatsby Dinning experience was even worse with just 3 courses to serve ,we seldom were able to get out of the restaurant in under 2 hours, usually 2 and 1/2 This created problems in scheduling your evening activities as most started at 7pm and we were still waiting on our main course. We had missed orders, , no follow up on bread, drinks , bar service , , butter , sugar, etc. we felt like 3rd class citizens , having to ask other waiters to help us. Most important to me was the fact that the waiter was supposed to bring a cake on our last sea day and sing happy birthday to my wife . They FORGOT ! Entertainment was limited to one group called "Liverpool Legends " the rest of the cruise was 2 years old performances by the staff, one comic and one juggler, all mediocor at best. Worst part of entertainment was the promised Certrum Aerial act which is advertised on tv as well as their website , for this particular ship!! They didn't have one, They didn't give a reason for cancelling , and there were 2000 disappointed people. There was no recognition of my Crown and Anchor status which was emmerald/ diamond! There was no suite departure lounge with breakfast , as promised! There was no welcome back after six cruises on this ship. there was no welcome aboard gift nor lapel pins , as promissed ! Requested Photo's of my dinning partners was lost ? or they didn't print more than one after we requested 3. In general: Royal Caribbean and Grandeur of the Seas crew need to improve their service, recognition, entertainment, security, and overall appreciation for cruising with them. THERE ARE OTHER AND BETTER CRUISE CHOICES ! TV is very, very limited to most shows about there own product ( Selling you another Cruise ). CNN , Espn and replays of old shows on TNN. At least on Carnival they show movies , you can interact by ordering first run movies, see your on board account, reserve excursions, dinner reservations and more. Read Less

We traveled Oct 13-22,2016. We picked the cruise because of the ports. The ports were good to excellent. It was easy for us to get on the ship. We arrived at 1:30 and walked on the ship by 1:50. We were able to carry on our bags right to our room. We had an interior and it was clean. We had great service with the room. The cruise was very good with excellent service in MDR. We had ATD. We went mostly at 5:00. It was busy, but service was very good to excellent. We never waited and sat at the same table every night. We had a table for 2. The entertainment was hit and miss. We were on the Grandeur last year, so some was a repeat for us. We could not complain about the weather it was great to be in the north, it was 60's and 70's. We booked three excursions through RCCL and two private excursions. The only issue I had was the way RCCL disembarked the excursions booked through RCCL. So excursions met on the ship and were escorted off. Some booked through RCCL met on the pier and had to get off the best way possible without missing the excursion. RCCL needs to review this process to help all paying for an excursion to get off the ship. All of the excursions were very good. Boston we toured Boston, Lexington and Concord through RCCL. It was mostly history. Portland was a private tour and we toured the city and lighthouse. This was an o.k. tour. Bar Harbor was a private tour{Olis Trolley) and was excellent. St. John we used RCCL excursion. We rode a train to see the reversing river and then hop on hop off of city. It was an o.k. tour. Halifax was also through RCCL and was excellent. We visited Peggy's cove and titanic graves. We used self-assist to leave and were the first to leave. We were off the ship and in the car in 10 minutes. This was our second time on Grandeur. We would cruise on the Grandeur again. Read Less

The Gradeur is my 5th RC ship. At the beginning of the week, I contacted RC about this particular cruise and the possibility of the itinerary changing. Hurricane Matthew was brewing and Nicole was heading to Bermuda. I was told RC would be monitoring the situation and inform me of any changes. People who booked through AAA, knew Saturday that RC wasn't going to Bermuda. Customer service said we were still sailing to Bermuda. Staff said we were still saling to Bermuda. I was never informed. Announcments weren't heard in all staterooms, including mine. Bayonne was the worse possibility! My biggest complaint was the lack of communication. Customer service couldn't give answers. Staff didn't know anything. I brought a sweatshirt or two, but didn't have sneakers or closed toe shoes. They made sure that we heard our credit can be used towards a next cruise, but we have no idea what that credit will be or how we will receive that credit. Unless we went and stood on a long line, asking the same questions as everyone else, we wouldn't know anything. I found the bar and the bartenders unprepared, ie warm beer, no water, not knowing the difference between tonic water and ginger ale. Kudos to my waitstaff at Great Gabsy! Those guys were awesome and greated us with a smile every evening! That goes a long way. I understand the saftey of the passengers, but I do believe people should have had the option to opt out. Pools were only available on our last day! They were empty when we boarded. Due to the storm, the Solarium, outdoor areas, including bars, were all closed. Water came into balcony rooms. Staff were tense and not at the friendliest, and I can understand. Just will that alone, I believe RC should have prepared their passengers of what could happen. Instead, we were kept in the dark grasping at any information we could get whether is was right or wrong. Cruise Director lacked enthusiasm. I can't even tell you his name. However, Andre the Activites Director did his best to engage the guest! My friends and I were celebrating our birthdays, and we had a good time. We made the best out of a bad situation. This will be a trip that will never be forgotten! An added note about RC overall....I find that the quality of their food has declined. Years ago, I would rave how good the food would taste and look. I was on the Anthem in June and now the Grandeur and the food is disappointing. Definitely nothing to write home about. I think too much money is going into technolgy ( which doesn't always work ie Bionic Bar) and cuts are being made on the qualaity of food. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever. It was a gift from me to my husband. This was perhaps an extremely challenging cruise for all onboard being that we were facing rough seas due to 2 hurricanes. First, it clearly states that you should be at the port at least 90 minutes early for circumstances such as this. Maybe 10% did not make the ship because we needed to leave 1 hour early due to the Chesapeake Bay closing. I was on deck 4. Yes it was very rocky. I did see the motion sickness bags available. All areas that had outside access were blocked for passenger safety when the Seas got really rough. This cruise itinerary was changed a few times from Bermuda to Canada and finally to New Jersey because of the rough seas. I did not see much water leakage at all in the areas where I was. I was NEVER confined to my room. It was a concerning situation, especially since it was my first cruise, however I felt RC handled it well. After seeing what weather did hit Bermuda I would say that RC made the best decision they could other than possibly cancelling the cruise. NYC was gorgeous weather and the free ferry for the passengers was generous. Going back to Baltimore was wonderful cruising weather. Also the generosity of RC to give 100% cruise credit shows to me that they really care about their passengers. All of the service on our ship was amazing, from Katie our housekeeper, to Andre our activity director, to Algin and Boniface out waiters, to Paul the cruise director and of course out captain who steered us into safety. I also am so greatful to Crystal Crumlic from Tripping With Crystals Travel in Mechanicsburg, PA for constantly being in touch with me when possible for land side updates. Read Less

This cruise on Grandeur of the Seas redeemed the reputation of RCCI and Celebrity for me. Past cruises with RCCI and Celebrity had been disasters. This cruise on Grandeur of the Seas was GREAT very enjoyable. We and our friends had a great time. The staff and crew were the most pleasant, helpful, and courteous that we have encountered. Yes, the Grandeur is an older ship, a little warn around the edges, but the staff and crew make up the difference. GREAT PEOPLE!! The ports of call are all very good, only problem with the exception of Boston, just not enough time to spend ashore at the lovely ports. The Maine ports need at least a full day as well as St. Johns and Halifax. These cities and areas are too beautiful and important historically to rush through in a few hours. Need to add a couple more days to the cruise. Read Less

I boarded the Grandeur on Sat. Sept. 24th. Boarding processes went quite smoothly. Once onboard proceeded to Windjammer as no access to rooms until 1pm. Windjammer on embarkation day is always a tad insane, and this day was no different. Food options were plentiful, and staff worked as fast as they could to turn tables for others. Speaking of food, I will say the food onboard has definitely taken a notch up from last time onboard. Everything very tasty, and I saw when guests debated about their choices the staff brought them the other meal option so they could try both. Old school cruising is coming back on the end. The room onboard was very clean, but you can tell she will need to go into dry dock for some cosmetic touches. balcony doors rusted in places, balconies in general all need to be re-sanded and stained. Staff overall couldn't have been nicer. As since she is a more smaller and intimate ship, one with no zip lines, central parks, water slides etc. the crew is what makes guests return. They are engaging, friendly, and accommodating and you truly come off with a friend. Onboard entertainment truly blew me away this trip! Earl Turner a Vegas Entertainer was the shows headliner this trip. For the first time in a long time, I can honestly say it was the BEST show I've seen while at sea. He had the entire audience from start to finish, singing, laughing and just all-in-all have the best time ever! I hear he does preform throughout the year on other RCCL ships, and I need to find his schedule as I'll definitely make plans to sail again with RCCL when he is on board!!! The other entertainers/ staff were also exceptionally good as well. The atrium show Seasons was lovely and breathtaking. The hotel director also was active with the atrium shows and events, which I've not seen before and that was a nice touch. I will say the most touching moment on the cruise was at the end of the goodbye show, last night of cruise the band played the National Anthem and EVERYONE was singing and paying their respect, which actually brought a tear to my eye. Very Proud of RCCL there. Only suggestions for faster service. All other lines, have a Platinum + member level designated counter area but on RCCL they do not. So be prepared to wait in a line at Guests Services sometimes. Also in the casino if you want cash to play with, they will not give you cash, but Vouchers for that amount to ensure you put it into the machines. Quirky. Notice to Diamond Members and above. The rules of allowing a guest to join you in the diamond lounge has changed, and you will NO longer be permitted to do so. So if you are traveling w/ a friend that has not earned the perks, forget about going into the lounge during your cruise to relax with your friend. You will just have to go to another regular lounge instead. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed sailing on Grandeur again! You will actually love Mustering on this ship, as they keep your attention :-) Smooth sailing everyone, and now looking forward to going on Allure in 2 weeks. Check back afterwards! Read Less
