We sailed on Royal Caribbean's Grandeur of the Sea from March 24th-April 6th, 2018. We had three couples in our party and had planned this 12-night South Caribbean cruise for two years. We went out of Baltimore Maryland, and continue down to St Thomas, Antigua, St Lucia, Saint Kitts & Nevi, and St Maartens. The seas were a bit rocky on one of the nights down and one night back, but other than that smooth sailing.
Overall the cruise was absolutely fantastic! It was a relief to see that these islands, at least the ones that were affected by last September's hurricanes, had come a long way in their recovery.
We had excursions planned on the first four islands and decided to do our own thing on Saint Maartens. Royal Caribbean seems to have a very solid relationship with their excursions, as all were well run and enjoyable Do not miss ziplining through the rainforest in St Lucia it kayaking & snorkeling in Antigua! Both were affordable, beautiful and so much fun.
While Grandeur of the Sea is one of Royal Caribbean's older boats and it's their smallest ship, there's something great about it. You will not find a friendlier or more helpful staff. From the room attendants to the dining room staff to the activities people, all go out of their way to help you have a fun and memorable time. The Palladium shows at night offer top-notch entertainment! From music/singers to dancers to comedians to ventriloquism to an awesome hypnotist....all were excellent. Something for everyone.
The food in The Great Gatsby dining room is 5-star. Your will think you are eating in a luxury restaurant every night. The Windjammer is the buffet dining room, also good, but definitely more of what you'd expect from a buffet. The variety is huge there. The Park Cafe also offers up a lighter fare... Usually sandwiches, salads and a few different desserts. My only complaint is the coffee! If you like high-intensity-BOLD-espresso-will-grow-hair-on-your-chest-like coffee, then you'll be fine. They do have a small Starbucks cafebin Latte-tudes, but I'm not much of a Starbucks fan, either. I wish they offered a less intense coffee.... But for that being the only real complaint, I won't complain too loudly.
I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone who wants a really relaxing, longer cruise. The price cannot be beat for everything you are getting. Read Less
