I choose this cruise for convenience as I live in Maryland and it was close to my birthday. Me and my girlfriend are both in our 30s and had a great time. Service on ship was excellent wether your talking about the MDR our room stewards etc.. We ate at chops and it was delicious we’re on the other royal ships we have been in. Izumi was also good we have eaten on other ships and then experience there was by far the best. I read a lot about this shop draws a older crowd and I could see that but it might just be when you go and your itinerary. Also read before we went that the shop shuts down at 10 or 11 o’clock which in my experience is also not true. They had live music in the centrum until at least midnight and one of the nights we went to the night club on board and people were still dancing partying etc and it was past 2am. The ship is small and for a young active couple I think 5 or maybe 7 nights max would be the perfect length on this ship as I think any longer I would have started to get board. Bermuda was awesome and beautiful and hopefully will be able to go back soon. Overall I had a great time and at the end of the day your vacation is all about what you make it. Read Less

My husband and I are “empty nesters” now, so we decided to treat ourselves to a cruise. We chose Royal Caribbean because we had cruised with them once before and had enjoyed it. This cruise did not disappoint. It was smaller than the ship we sailed on last time, so there weren’t quite as many activities, but we had plenty to do for the five days of the cruise, considering the fact that almost two days we were able to go ashore. (We went to Bermuda.) What struck us the most was how friendly and helpful all of the staff were. The food was amazing as well... consequently, we indulged far too much! We didn’t love the musical productions, so we ended up going to the Casino instead. Our favorite activity was the trivia games in the Schooner Bar. We teamed up with other people there, which was a fun way to meet other cruisers. We chose to get a suite and were very happy we did. The room was comfortable and reasonably spacious, with an awesome private balcony. Again, the staff went out of their way to get us anything we asked for. We have already decided to take another cruise on Royal Caribbean next summer. Can’t wait! Read Less

The positives abound: Great to leave out of Baltimore and have a "Goldilocks" cruise experience - Everything was "just right" - not too long/short at sea, in port, excursion times, bar prices, the lot. All the staff WITHOUT EXCEPTION were friendly and supportive. Amazingly, even the kids cruising were all well-behaved. Will not be our last cruise with this line. Casino notes: Low-limit blackjack pays 6:5 vice 3:2 with no double down after split, cannot get even money on blackjack. More experienced players will play $25 tables with 3:2 blackjack payouts OR play single deck late at night if few are around. Good mix of slots, small area also exists for non smoking players. Roulette was great! $5 bet minimum on 1:1 and 2:1 outside spots, $5 minimum inside on numbers at $1 chip levels. Can play all day at $5 or $10 per spin. $2 mimosa specials at 10 AM. Next time I will play in a tournament. The Bermuda Dollar is on par with the US Dollar. Great "tip" to become memorable: We had fun bringing $200 in crisp new $2 bills and spending them whenever possible, including tipping the staff and excursion driver. Special need meals are more than just the obvious. I found I could have had Indian cuisine as a sit-down dinner option had I asked (no, I am not Indian but like the food). We even skipped a plated meal to take advantage of "Indian night". A wide variety of foods at Windjammer to meet the American, European and Asian palates. All rolls and donuts made fresh daily. Only one "complaint" made to the staff: There was insufficient handicapped tables and seating in the Windjammer. We made the restaurant manager aware of this and hopefully this will be addressed, otherwise next time we will just take the meal on deck and sit at the outside table (weather permitting". Read Less

My sister and I needed a short vacation away together so we booked this cruise from Baltimore, only a 3 hr. Drive from home. We have been on other cruises in the past with friends and family but this was just a "sister cruise". From start to finish, I can't say enough about the wonderful service on this ship. I can't imagine being away from my family for 5-6 months at a time and still smile every day to all the customers. SUCH HARD WORKERS with little time off. People say that this is an "old ship with old people". This is not true! We saw people from 1-93 on this cruise. The 93 yr old lady was playing the piano in the Schooler Bar on the last night. What a treat to watch her play the piano. Just shows that you are never too old to enjoy life! Our wait staff in the man dining room was so sweet, Gener and Imade Ari! Yes they do get paid for their service but they also deserve a little extra tip for going the extra step. The food was tasty and I loved the salad bar at lunch in the main dining room where they mixed it all up for you! Wonderful! Our room steward was also great! She always greeted us with a smile and was eager to please us during our stay. Now the fun part. We meet some folks in the casino that were so cool! We spend a lot of time playing black jack and shouting "EVERYBODY WINS! When the dealer busted. Wow, we laughed and totally enjoyed ourselves. My sister even won the slot tournament for $500.00. Bermuda was fantastic! Warm but windy for 2 days.Booked the excursion for snorkeling and loved it. We didn't get to the beach but that's ok. Overall this was a great cruise and we would not hesitate to book again on Lady G. She is wonderful! Read Less

Everything about the cruise overall was great, as it always is on Royal Caribbean. The food in the main dining hall was excellent as was the waiter and his assistant. Entertainment was very good. The singers, dancers and band were exceptional. The entertainmant director (Mike) did a very fine job in handling everything. I was extremely happy the way they saluted all veterans, police and first responders. I am a veteran and proud of it and it felt very good to be recognized! The only "downers" were the hard seas from Baltimore to Bermuda due to weather (which even Royal Caribbean could not control), and the amount of time in port . A five day cruise does not give enough time to see much of Bermuda's sites and history and spend some time relaxing at the pool or other shipboard activities. This was the fastest embarkation service of all our cruises taken. We will be scheduling a longer cruise to the Bahamas in January. Read Less

My husband, myself and another couple took this cruise so we could drive to the Baltimore port 20 minutes from where we live. The port is easy to navigate and embark and disembark. As most other cruisers we went directly to the Windjammer for lunch upon boarding, was crowded but manageable. The crew was quick and frequent to offer drinks and take away used plates and beverages. Always with a smile. The central public area of the ship is the Centrum which has several decks of seating and beverage service with a view below to the promenade for shows and live music. We had an ocean view cabin which was suitable for 2 people, ample storage and very comfortable bed and pillows. It was oddly soundproof as we never heard any noise from neighbors or hallway traffic. We had dinner in the Great Gatsby each dinner and received superior service by Dexter and Robert. Always asked if we needed anything more and was always asked by the Captain how the dinner tasted. We left our waiters with hugs on our last evening. The Cruise Director, Mike, was exceptional in talent, humor and keeping the crowds engaged. He really made the cruise entertaining. Throughout the cruise when traversing from activity to activity we were politely asked if we would like a beverage and the crew was quick to answer or attend to any needs we requested. Always with a smile. Upon reaching Bermuda we took a taxi to Horseshoe Bay and enjoyed walking in the water and taking pictures, we took a bus back to port. $7.00 per person for both taxi and bus. We would gladly take another cruise on Lady G, hoping Mike would still be the CD and hopefully have Dexter and Robert as our waiters. A most impressive and professional crew that always had a smile. This was my first cruise and my anxiety was high. It disappeared as soon as I got on board. The staff was incredible. Cruise Director Mike clearly works his tail off to provide great entertainment for everyone. Wait staff at bars remembered my name whenever they saw me. The room was bigger than expected. Lovely vanity for getting ready and a couch for any visitors. The bed was very firm as were the pillows, but honestly I didn’t care by night 2. We had very rough and rocky seas the 2nd day. People were ill in main areas but the staff took immediate care and made sure everyone was detoured around them. Drinks were amazing and alcohol content was on point. No skimping. Raul, our sever at the 11th floor bar, was a hoot. He remembered my name outside of the bar, helped me down steps, and had inside jokes with others in our party. Shows were great. We had a phenomenal 70s show that we happened upon. So much fun! I highly recommend the game shows. We saw two Jeopardy shows and Love and Marriage. Both were hilarious. Again, this was all due to our Cruise Director. He was quick witted, remembered what contestants said later in the games and referenced it. I was highly impressed. Food was plentiful. The main dining food wasn’t as good as expected (don’t get fried chicken or corn on the cob there). I wish I could have just eaten at the buffet for dinner but everyone in my party wanted to eat together at 8pm. This meant missing some shows which was disappointing. Next time I may ditch people to do what I want. I laughed my entire trip and am now a cruiser for life. I miss the staff tremendously. I’m in mourning. They really felt like family. Read Less

The night life was always exciting, and the staff was outgoing, friendly, and warm. The entertainment on the cruise was top quality. I especially liked the forever elvis shows. Each show was different, but both shows were high energy and the performers were great sports. I often saw elvis or one of his band members taking picture with the guests! (myself included) our cabin was comfortable, plenty of room for the two of us. The ship was impeccably clean as well as our room. We even had a different towel animal left in our room each night! We found the drink package royal caribbean offers to be well worth it. (just make sure you purchase it in advance... it saves you $11 a day) LOVED OUR FIRST CRUISE AND ALREADY PLANNING FOR THE NEXT (with Royal Caribbean of course) Read Less

The staff was excellent in the dining room we could not have asked for better service. They made you feel like royalty. The Cruise Director Paul was absolutely wonderful he did n outstanding job as well as Tonya. the activities they had planned for the entire time was absolutely great. There is no way that someone could say they were bored. We chose this cruise because it sailed out of Baltimore,MD and the destination was Bermuda. Upon arriving in Baltimore,MD at the port we were greeted with excellent service and smiles. The ship was awesome. It was impeccably clean and well staffed. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our luggage was delivered promptly to our stateroom before we sailed. Our oceanview cabin 2064 was excellent. It was very clean, the bed was firm. There was plenty of storage space available in the closet, the drawers and in the bathroom. The dining on the ship was also very good. The Windjammer buffet offered the usual cruise like food. There was plenty of variety to choose from. The food was very fresh. Dining in the Great Gatsby dining room was great! The food was definitely gourmet. It was well prepared and presented. The dining room staff was very attentive. Greeted you with smiles throughout dinner. They made sure that you enjoyed your meal. The ship had plenty activities to choose from. You can relax at the sun deck, shop, or engage in the activities that were offered. We did not travel with children. I can't comment about the children's activities or services because we didn't use them. The age group on the ship varied from 25-70. Definitely an adult like cruise. The port at Bermuda Heritage Wharf was very nice and clean. It offers shopping and snorkel beach for those who did not want to venture out to Horshoe Bay upon arrival. Definitely do the excursion to Horseshoe Bay. It is absolutely beautiful. We were docked for two days. We chose to relax, however there are plenty of tours offered. It was a FANTASTIC cruise. We choose this cruise for a couple of reasons. First, it was a cruise that would actually be on our 53rd anniversary. and second it was out of Baltimore. It made it a no brainer since it was Royal Caribbean and we had cruised with them before. The crew on Royal Caribbean are always friendly and more than willing to do what ever it takes to make sure you have a wonderful vacation experience. The ship is kept clean at all times and the entertainment is wonderful and none stop. One group was so amazing, of course they played and sang all of the music that I loved as a teenager and I couldn't get enough of them. We enjoyed the casino very much and I even won a little money. It was great fun. They had games and all kinds of activities for adults, teens and little ones. No one was left out. I cannot say enough about the food and the wonderful people who served us. They were wonderful and made sure we were well taken care of. You could have all you wanted. They even accommodated special diets or needs. The deserts were so good you just wanted to eat more and more. You could eat in the Great Gatsby Dining room or go to the Windjammer Buffet. There are several other places to eat , but some restaurants are not included in the prices of the cruise. The cabin we had was an outside cabin with a nice size window. We were on the third deck and not too close to the elevators. It was quiet and comfortable with a private bathroom and a nice size closet. They have two beds which can be put together for a queen size bed or apart for a comfortable twin size. If you leave them apart, you would have more room in the cabin. We had no problem either Getting on the ship or disembarkation. It runs like a well oiled machine. Just make sure not to lose you "Sea Pass" they give you. Everything is tied up to that pass, it is also your cabin key. It is also your credit card to buy what ever you may want to purchase. Believe me, they have wonderful deals aboard ship. I think I discovered most of them! Once the ship is underway, spend your time exploring the ship to find out where everything of interest is. It will save you time when you know what activities you want to do and where they are held. Each day you will get a little paper that gives you the next days events so you can plan out your day. They have plenty of information on line before you go on your cruise to help you to choose what excursions you might be interested in. There are many things to consider and there are many reviews about each one. Do your research to make your vacation a wonderful one that you will remember. One more tip. Join the Crown and Anchor Club. It costs nothing to join and it gives perks to members. I'm glad we joined. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the port was close. I usually stay at Marriott’s and I am used to clean comfortable rooms. The room made me uncomfortable. I did not want to go down to get dressed up for dinner and spent any time in the room. My mother tried to sleep on the deck just to avoid having to be in the room. That proved to be too noisy. If you are not comfortable with old carpeting with stains this ship is not for you. The furniture looked dirty and old and there is no luggage rack. Also bring clothes you don't have to iron because you will not get a iron with the room. The hair dryer is also too weak to dry long hair. If you are expecting steak and lobster or sea bass this cruise may also not be for you. This ship also does not have the cocktails that are advertised online. Read Less

Selected this cruise b/c port was in Baltimore and didnt have to fly to port of call in Florida, which saved time, money and stress of connecting flights and transportation. Our stateroom was incredibly small. Too small. It was extremely difficult to maneuver around. We totally overestimated the size based on other cruise staterooms. I couldnt imagine if I had kids in the room. Very small. Food experience was excellent and main dining staff was AMAZING!!. Pool deck staff were amazing as well, always offering premium cocktails and always asking ways the can assist you. By far the most helpful, courteous and fun-loving staff who seem to really like their jobs and enjoy meeting new people. The main issue was the length of time in Bermuda (only 36hrs). 1 full day and then the next day had to be back by 2pm. If you enjoy cruising and being on the ship its a great experience but if you really want to experience the destination than this is not the cruise for you. Read Less

I enjoyed our cruise to Bermuda overall. The staff was diverse and friendly, especially our stateroom attendant and main dining room waiter, which we very much appreciated. The staterooms were clean and surprisingly well-sized for a basic interior room with a queen bed. I was disappointed in how few healthy or vegetarian options there were, both in the Great Gatsby main dining room and especially in the buffet-style Windjammer Cafe. I was also disappointed in how hard it was to connect to the ship's Wi-Fi network due to its bad coverage throughout the ship and the number of times my devices dropped off the network due to poor signal strength. I don't really have an issue with the speed of the Internet on the ship's Wi-Fi since I understand why it would be slow in the middle of the ocean (low latency and limited satellite bandwidth), but the Wi-Fi network itself should have a stronger signal (especially in the staterooms) and should not be so prone to device drop-offs. This was a great cruise and I would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to visit Bermuda. The ONLY drawback is that it was 5 nights which meant about 24 hours in Bermuda. Not much time to do things there. Next time I would find a cruise that docked longer. The first day we got there, we took a van excursion to tour the island. This was our 2nd time in Bermuda so it was nice to see how much things have changed. MORE PEOPLE AND MORE TRAFFIC. Do not rent a scooter unless you are prepared to spend the next month in the hospital there. The second day we went to the beach (at Kings Wharf) for a few hours before it was time to go back to the ship. The beach at the dock cost about $5 p/p and you can rent chairs there for about the same price. So there was no need to book an expensive excursion to some beach. The staff worked tirelessly to make sure you had a great vacation. The shows were excellent and there was something for everybody. There certainly was plenty to do all day on the ship. They even had movies during the day if you wanted to take a break from the sun. Pool area was crowded, but we never had a problem finding chairs on deck. The ship was clean and the crew were constantly encouraging you to "washy washy" was you entered public areas. The lunch buffet offered a good variety of food. Dinner in the ballroom was tasty. We did not visit any of the gourmet restaurants. It was a wonderful time and I would highly recommend this ship. We had a perfect vacation. Thanks R.C.! Read Less

Calls to housekeeping staff were unanswered. Entertainment was marginal. My roommate and I both came down with flu symptoms that have lasted two weeks past disembarkment. Unable to see ship's Doctor, since there were so many people attempting to see the Doctor. Shore excursions were expensive and inadequate. The employees gave very poor directions. There appears to be mold in the ductal system. I started coughing and had a runny nose from the second day of the cruise. During the conference, the ship's staff kept opening the door to the conference room. The drinks were watered down. Overall the cruise was a nightmare. This was a getaway cruise for just my wife and I to relax away from our kids. However, it started off very poorly as soon as we got to the terminal. We spent almost 1 hour in our car in a line on the street waiting to get into the terminal parking lot. Then we spent an hour waiting in the Gold line to check in (Very poorly managed line versus tellers even when there was no one waiting in the higher level customer lines). Ship was 3 hours late leaving the first day due to engine problems. Ship appeared dirty during the entire cruise. Only half the soda machines were working. The internet package sucked. It would not stay connected and/or had trouble finding their network. As soon as your device went to locked screen, their internet would disconnect. Thus, any messages coming in would not wake up your device with a notification. You would not get those incoming messages until you manually woke up your device and reconnected to your device. These disconnects were long before the automatic 2 hour non-usage disconnect that they tell you about. There was still construction occurring on the ship during the cruise. It seemed like the ship was under staffed to take care of the customers. I don't believe the ship was even fully booked either, which makes it worse. Staff was very slow at cleaning up trash on the ship or clearing tables in common dinning areas of the ship. We were told the ship just sailed up from dry dock work, so this was the first cruise after dry dock. I don't think all the repairs were completed given our experience on this cruise. Read Less

Average cruise that was rather expensive for 24 hours in Bermuda. The embarkation process was horrible. The ship had come out of dry dock and although was very clean on the outside, was not so clean inside. The stateroom was not setup according to a prior request. Also, the balcony was dirty. The crew was boarding and cleaning the ship as the passengers were boarding. The cruise would have been enhanced by having two full days in Bermuda. The cruise felt rushed, because it left three plus hours late. We had to make up time, so it was a rough sail for sea sick passengers. Since the majority of the cruise is spent at sea, the programs, shopping and food service should have been exceptional--but they weren't. It's convenient to cruise out of Baltimore, but maybe not on Grandeur of the Seas. If other ships are available, it might be more cost effective and enjoyable to cruise on another cruise line. Embarkation took a long time due to the processing of crew members following the ship being in dry dock. This delayed the ship leaving port by 3 hours but thankfully RCI put in some time in the itinerary in order for us to get to Bermuda on time. I feel the cruise singers and dancers were also affected by the dry dock time as their shows were opening night performances and it showed (one male dancer even kicked a female dancer in the head - oops!). I loved King's Wharf/Dockyards - it has all you need! Shops, restaurants, historical and social attractions and beach! Advice: don't pay for the excursion to the beach- admission to Snorkel Park Beach is only $5 (versus the $35 RCI will charge you!). We could have stayed longer in Bermuda to explore more of the island, but I know I will be back in the future. Our stateroom attendant was top-notch, and our wait staff appeared to be newer in my time dining, but they were still polite and professional. Thanks to Cruise Critic for the Park Cafe advice - it was my new favorite food spot! The cruise entertainment staff could have used a pick-me-up (not enough energy for the job), but Tonya and the Grandeur orchestra were fantastic. Loved the Veterans Ceremony and Parade of Nations - be sure to bring the camera for those! My family and I (all adults) took a relaxing pace to our cruise and weren't disappointed. Of the 2,053 passengers, only 100 were kids, so folks looking to get away from children should definitely cruise in May! Read Less

The Gradeur is my 5th RC ship. At the beginning of the week, I contacted RC about this particular cruise and the possibility of the itinerary changing. Hurricane Matthew was brewing and Nicole was heading to Bermuda. I was told RC would be monitoring the situation and inform me of any changes. People who booked through AAA, knew Saturday that RC wasn't going to Bermuda. Customer service said we were still sailing to Bermuda. Staff said we were still saling to Bermuda. I was never informed. Announcments weren't heard in all staterooms, including mine. Bayonne was the worse possibility! My biggest complaint was the lack of communication. Customer service couldn't give answers. Staff didn't know anything. I brought a sweatshirt or two, but didn't have sneakers or closed toe shoes. They made sure that we heard our credit can be used towards a next cruise, but we have no idea what that credit will be or how we will receive that credit. Unless we went and stood on a long line, asking the same questions as everyone else, we wouldn't know anything. I found the bar and the bartenders unprepared, ie warm beer, no water, not knowing the difference between tonic water and ginger ale. Kudos to my waitstaff at Great Gabsy! Those guys were awesome and greated us with a smile every evening! That goes a long way. I understand the saftey of the passengers, but I do believe people should have had the option to opt out. Pools were only available on our last day! They were empty when we boarded. Due to the storm, the Solarium, outdoor areas, including bars, were all closed. Water came into balcony rooms. Staff were tense and not at the friendliest, and I can understand. Just will that alone, I believe RC should have prepared their passengers of what could happen. Instead, we were kept in the dark grasping at any information we could get whether is was right or wrong. Cruise Director lacked enthusiasm. I can't even tell you his name. However, Andre the Activites Director did his best to engage the guest! My friends and I were celebrating our birthdays, and we had a good time. We made the best out of a bad situation. This will be a trip that will never be forgotten! An added note about RC overall....I find that the quality of their food has declined. Years ago, I would rave how good the food would taste and look. I was on the Anthem in June and now the Grandeur and the food is disappointing. Definitely nothing to write home about. I think too much money is going into technolgy ( which doesn't always work ie Bionic Bar) and cuts are being made on the qualaity of food. Read Less

This was our first cruise ever. It was a gift from me to my husband. This was perhaps an extremely challenging cruise for all onboard being that we were facing rough seas due to 2 hurricanes. First, it clearly states that you should be at the port at least 90 minutes early for circumstances such as this. Maybe 10% did not make the ship because we needed to leave 1 hour early due to the Chesapeake Bay closing. I was on deck 4. Yes it was very rocky. I did see the motion sickness bags available. All areas that had outside access were blocked for passenger safety when the Seas got really rough. This cruise itinerary was changed a few times from Bermuda to Canada and finally to New Jersey because of the rough seas. I did not see much water leakage at all in the areas where I was. I was NEVER confined to my room. It was a concerning situation, especially since it was my first cruise, however I felt RC handled it well. After seeing what weather did hit Bermuda I would say that RC made the best decision they could other than possibly cancelling the cruise. NYC was gorgeous weather and the free ferry for the passengers was generous. Going back to Baltimore was wonderful cruising weather. Also the generosity of RC to give 100% cruise credit shows to me that they really care about their passengers. All of the service on our ship was amazing, from Katie our housekeeper, to Andre our activity director, to Algin and Boniface out waiters, to Paul the cruise director and of course out captain who steered us into safety. I also am so greatful to Crystal Crumlic from Tripping With Crystals Travel in Mechanicsburg, PA for constantly being in touch with me when possible for land side updates. Read Less
