We just came back from a four day cruise to the Grand Bahamas. It was our first cruise and we could not have asked for more. The food was excellent. The service was impeccable. The ship itself was a fun experience with adventures on each deck. It was a truly eclectic crowd and very friendly. Everyone will fit in here. What was unexpected was the high quality of the entertainment. We stayed on the island and were pleasantly surprised by its cleanliness and clean beaches. Totally safe and uncrowded. The camera does not lie and we have many photos of the wonderful experiences. To see the sunrise at 6 am from the cruise ship over the calm blue and turquoise waters was unforgettable. After all it is ultimately about the experience of getting close to Nature. The price is so low that I know we will be back whenever we want a quick escape. After all the Bahama Mama is calling. Old, Smokey, nothing to do but sit. This is by far the worst ship I’ve ever been on. DONT GO. I’ve been on many cruises. Horrible experience. You will get nickel and dime to death. The ship is very very very dirty and old. Chairs are plastic and uncomfortable and the tables are wobbly. The passengers are below working class. Lots of tattoos and smokers. This ship actually has an unpleasant order. Extremely boring. Cannot understand the PA system. This I was a trip from hell. Get ready to spend more money than they advertise. There are better ways to spend your money and have more fun. The only good thing about this ship is when we got off. The prices of the drinks were outrageous unless you think $15 fior a bottle of beer acceptable. You can purchase coupons that reduceses the beer price to $10 a bottle - what a great deal. They also want you to pay extra money to cook your own food at your table. Read Less

We took this cruise because of the special two-night deal. Outstanding experience. The musical shows were dynamite. The beds very comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Food excellent. Well-organized, well run. Ship and all amenities very clean and maintained well throughout the cruise. Lots of activities to pursue aboard ship. All events were held on time and stuck strictly to the time allotted. Ate at Yellow Elder. Outstanding food, service, and atmosphere. The only fly in the ointment was when we returned and were disembarking. We filled out the online passport papers, which gave us an edge on early debarking; however, as I was leaving, I was told to speak to the information desk. Long lines to wait for my turn, while my companions were ashore waiting for me. Finally, got to the counter only to be told that everything on my account was okay and I was free to leave. That was totally unnecessary. Other than that, thoroughly wonderful experience that we will do again in the future. Couldn't find any comment cards to fill out before we disembarked. Read Less

Took this cruise as part of a cheap package that included hotels stays from a travel agent that also included a timeshare tour for a low price. The only parking at this port is valet parking for $19 per day. It was handled well, but that is your only choice as no other parking appeared to be in the area. We arrived at the port around 1 PM and embarkation was pretty fast as it seemed that most people arrived at the 12 hour when the ship started boarding. We had an accessible cabin 6116 because I had to take a mobility scooter. The cabin layout was different. It was a wide door that opened out in to the main hallway where normal cabins opened inwards to the cabins. The room was narrow with a path leading to the toilet and shower in the back of the cabin which turned out to be wider than the cabin area itself. The bathroom area had ample room for the facilities and provided plenty of room to turn the scooter around and use the path to the cabin door without having to back up out of the cabin. The cabin area had a desk and closet to one side of the path and the two beds against the wall on the other side of the path. All acceptable cabins will be interior and this cabin (6116) only had one 220V European plug which kind of makes it hard to charge a mobility scooter ion the cabin and no other plugs in the interior cabin. However after inquiring with guest services to have something work for me, they did provide an adapter and power supply that was 115V to charge the scooter and provided a USB plug for charging electronics. From what I understand all cabins only have one plug and the regular rooms have 115V outlets but I did not see that first hand for myself. It is an older ship and it was pretty well maintained with cleaning and painting. The ship was easy to navigate between areas and there were 8 working elevators. The elevator limit was rated for twelve people, but I doubt that you can get more than six or seven people in them at one time comfortably. The ship was decorated for Christmas. The band during this cruise was very good and the main theater had a very good show during both of our nights. Both nights also included a family comedy section as well as the main show. We opted not to see the adult comedy show because it was a $9 charge. The main dining room was clean and the service was very good. The complimentary menu choices are a limited, but tasted good. You get an appetizer, main course and a desert. We had the braised beef rib the first night and the sirloin flat steak the second night. There is no assigned seating and when the door opened at 6PM everyone in line entered at the same time. The staff lead you through the dining room and you were seated as a family or party of how many and given the option of a table with others so you can make new acquaintances. The buffet area is smaller than most ships but had plenty of seating. The food areas appeared to be clean and the food was good. Hot food table, fruit and salad area, and a desert and beverage area. The only major complaint with the food and beverages was the water. It had a strange after taste as if they added something to it or the distillers need to be replaced. It was just not good tasting. The easiest way around it was to get the lemonade or ice tea and shove some food in your mouth after taking a gulp. The buffet was open for breakfast, lunch, diner, and a midnight snack. Typical breakfast was eggs, bacon, toast, corned beef hash, cereals and fruits. Lunch and diner included a carving station, meats, cheeses, sides, salad bar, and deserts. Midnight buffet was tacos and gyros. There was a poolside BBQ on Sunday before we left the Bahamas. The service was good and the staff were all friendly. The activities staff always seem to have something planned around the ship and they definitely try to be in character to make things fun with costumes and off the wall wearing of items such as a one peace pajama or some wild tug along toy and even a guy dressed as a panda with a tutu during the sail away party at the pool. They played a few cash game bingo sessions and even had poolside karaoke at night. And also had a beanbag toss competition for two top prizes to get $25 and $50 dollars removed from your on board account I had seen many reviews about extra fees of room cleaning or making you try and make an up scale purchase and I had my reservations about that as well. When we boarded the ship they had have areas to get you to upgrade meals and get bar drink packages, but we were able to go by those without a hassle. We did not see a room cleaning fee as others have posted, but the do have a set gratuity of $13.95 per person, per day. That is not much different than any other cruise line I have traveled with. We did have two other additional charges that I am not used to seeing from past cruise lines I have sailed with. The first being a cruise terminal fee of $1 per person, and the second being a Fuel Surcharge of $18 per person. Most cruise lines say the fuel surcharge is possible but this is the first time I have ever been accessed that fee which is a turnoff to me. It is not like there was any big fuel shortage at a massive price increase. During this sailing the price of fuels has even dropped compared to recent months. It's almost like saying that they don't think the fuel should be part of the operating cost and they just want to get more money from you. If I didn't have to pay that fuel charge without knowing it ahead of time I may have rated this cruise 5 stars. But it wasn't till we closed out our account that we were notified about it on the billing statement. Everything is per person instead of per cabin and for two people that's an extra $36 you didn't expect. We did not do any shore excursions The main section of the port was closed on Sunday being that no other ships were in port. We only went to the pier to pick up a few t-shirts from the limited local vendors that were open. Disembarking was just as easy as embarking on the cruise with the exception of the line for customs. That seemed to go a bit slow and the line tended to get long from it in the terminal. As far as leaving the ship it was pretty fast getting off the ship , just the terminal wait was lagging in movement. Once outside the terminal they had plenty of people getting the vehicles up to the curb for you to load up and leave the port. Read Less

Took this cruise as a quick family getaway. We live locally yet we have never tried this ship. We are experienced cruisers having taken all the major cruise lines at some point. Check in (shoreside) was a little bit on the slow side (they were having issues using their tablets to take pics of our passports) but once that was done we grabbed a boarding picture, confirmed our dining table and we were onboard! I recommend getting your drink package online when you book. This will save you time. Staff will try to hound you about buying a drink package once onboard but all I had to say was I already purchased one. Booked a Suite which was worth the extra money. The room was large, clean & cold a/c. The ship herself is old school and in a good way. Beautifully appointed, attentive staff, nothing looked worn or beat up. She felt like a mega private yacht than a budget cruise ship....my feelings anyway. Meals were excellent. Good variety in the Buffett. Food was flavorful & hot. Main dining room & staff took pride in their service. Dinners were excellent. For an extra charge I ordered a small Filet (steak) which as good as any major steakhouse (Capitol Grille, Mortons, etc). The pizza is really good even though charges apply. Our family likes to game and we found the Casino to be clean and staff pleasant. Both nights we would take over a Blackjack table prior to the show and then afterwards. And reasonable prices. They offer $5.00 & $10.00 minimum tables. Try finding that at Hard Rock.....yeah, good luck! The onboard entertainment was suprisingly very good. Both nights we enjoyed an excellent show. I think the only way that could have topped their performance is if they had a live orchestra but you'll be hard pressed to find one even on the major lines nowadays. I won't really comment on Freeport since my focus is the ship experience. The area is still pretty beat up from Hurricane Matthew back in 2016. Since we (wife & I) booked a Suite we were invited (they later allowed my entire family...13 persons total) to visit the Bridge while we were docked at Freeport. Then to top it off they allowed us to remain on the Bridge while we maneuvered out of our slip and proceed out the main channel. Captain Hansen was a riot doing pull ups on his chin up bar that is welded to the ceiling of the Starboard bridge wing!.....no joke! He was completely professional but also didn't take himself too seriously. He loves to entertain. He made sure we were involved and had a great experience. He even made my Aunt press the ship's horn ( 3 times for astern) when we backed out from the dock. It was an incredible. We all left the Bridge feeling like celebrities. If nothing more book a Suite for this experience alone! Especially if you're a ship buff like myself. Overall our experience was an excellent one! Our expectations were more than met. As a result we are looking forward to a return trip in January 2019. Kudos & accolades to the ship, her officers & crew for providing outstanding service. So, if you're even slightly interested in going then go! Read Less

First off let me say I was set on not liking the ship because I love her sister ship the Celebration. However with that said she sure did change my mind. I brought 3 of my granddaughters along with their boyfriends and we were originally going to sail on the Celebration. So this was not my first choice and I didn't think my girls would like it. But I was wrong. I purchased the Concierge package for everyone and it worked well as it always does on the Celebration. Ok back to the Classica, the food, we tried all the upcharge restaurants. We went to the wine tasting which was part of the package so they had samples of the pizza and it was to die for. So we did the pizza in the afternoon. The best pizza and I am of Italian heritage and I can't say enough good things about it. We tried the Rock Grill and that was a dining experience into itself. Great tender steaks and seafood. They do a presentation and the kids loved it. So now I have to critique the Admirals Club that was somewhat of a disappointment and here is why. On the Celebration the main dining rooms Stellar Prime and the Admiralty Club are very nice. Dark wood paneling, frosted glass dividers and big picture windows. First off the Admirals on the Classica is way too small to accomodate the concierge people and the overflow went to the Yellow Elder. Neither one of the dining rooms were nice looking. I am shocked because the rest of the ship is so elegant. They need to move the Admirals Dining Room to another part of the ship and make it as special as the Celebration dining rooms. Another criticism is the suites. The marble bathroom is beautiful and so it the balcony but the suites themselves are shabby looking at best. Unless they redecorate the suites, the next time I sail on the Classica I'll just take a regular cabin. I highly recommend this ship. I will sail on her again. I know this cruise line listens to their passengers and I know they will make the improvements I just mentioned because they probably have heard them before. One last thing, when they owned the little ferry ship the Bahamas Celebration, there was a cruise direction name Steve Zimmerman. Well, he was the greatest and they in their infinite wisdom brought him back as their comedian. They need to make him the cruise director again because I don't know who their cruise director is but I sure know Steve Zimmerman. Great time and can't wait to do it again. Read Less

It's a great short getaway. The crew are fun and friendly, the food is great, the entertainment is good. No need for a balcony as the only time you are at sea is at night. They have great deals which is less than if you were to book a hotel, restaurants and entertainment for a quick getaway. People are always in a fun and festive mood. It seems like the crew is encouraged to make sure everyone has a good time. The bed was very comfortable. The ship is older without the bells and whistles of the newer ships, but the cabin with ocean view is very comfortable. Dining can be freestyle if you wish. We like the buffet which has good variety and an outdoor grill. Parking is only available at the port as there are no other parking areas around. The valet parking is very convenient and $17 per day ($34 total). Read Less

Much Older but refurnished vessel. It’s clean and staff is very friendly. The Staterooms were larger than expected. The dining hours and locations are confusing. The entertainment on deck is kinda lame. I found myself constantly comparing them to Carnival and Royal Caribbean. It’s such a downgrade, even the comedian called this cruise line the “Greyhound” of the Sea. The comedian and magician were the best acts, we witnessed. We experienced a Tropical Storm in Bahamas so spent the day on the ship. Which was tough, not much to do with two 16 year olds. I won’t travel on Paradise Cruiseline, ever again. The port offers absolutely NOTHING.. industrial area in Freeport. And it’s lacking a variety onboard, from food, activities, and etc. You get what you pay for!!! Spend the extra money to have more options and better entertainment on and off the cruise vessel. Please and Thank You! Read Less

We booked this cruise through a travel agency group at a great deal of $79 dollars per person. We thought that was a great deal so we jumped on it. It was ok really and for a test cruise which is what we used it for, to see if we could do a bigger cruise, it in itself was ok. But, the food was not so great. The better food was an up charge of course. Everything cost extra on the boat. Not much for kids to do there. A pool so small that I thought it was the hot tub at first. My son got to play ping pong on one of the two tables there one time before it was taken over by a large pack of 20 something kids that were rude and unruly. We saw a room where kids were playing video games, my son is 9 and asked if he could play but was told no because the games were for 13 to 17 year olds. I said why not shut the door then so other kids can’t see it? The smell of marijuana covered the entire ship pretty much anytime we left our room. I asked a staff member if anything could be done about it, but was told that he did not see a problem with it. My husband is a truck driver and is drug tested regularly, there was definitely a problem with it. We did an excursion to the Grand Lucayan resort, that was the best part of the whole cruise. The resort was beautiful! We had an issue with the on board cruise bucks where they closed our account which took an hour to resolve because of the language barriers between the me and the staff member at guest service desk. All in all, we made a good time out of it given what we had to work with. I will definitely not be back on the Grand Classica. Here’s to hoping our next cruise is better!! Read Less

Please read the entire review, ignoring my age my what i say is entirely true. I choose this cruise because I and my family found a discount on Groupon for it. The overall price was about $800 for my parents and my sister. Embarkation and disembarkation went smoothly. The ship was tiny. The pool is so small that at first, I thought it was a hot tub. There isn't much stuff for people under 18 to do. I am 12 years old, and when my family was away, I had to stay at a kids club. It was horrible. The ages are 3-6, 7-12, 13-17. I couldn't go to the 13-17 club because they were mostly 17, and the 7-12 club was mostly 7-year-olds! It was such a depressing time. The room was so cramped. When I went, all I did was blow a balloon, draw a face on it, and pop it, watch a movie and that's it. I hated it. I made sure I didn't go back there. Also, the cabins were okay. They were pretty small on the most part and the ocean view was very tiny. My suitcase was bigger than the window. The bathroom was also okay. Very small. The shower was so small, that all you had room for was yourself and a washcloth, which I guess it the purpose. Also, DO NOT BE FOOLED by the squares you get in a package that says "deodorant." its actual soap. The soap dispenser in the actual shower is shampoo. Dining could've been better. All the food tasted bland, except for taco night. The rest tasted like old chewing gum. I would suggest dining at the Yellow Elder if you want some quality food. Entertainment is mostly reserved for adults and the service is awful. The only thing that was on the menu for room service was a Turkey Sandwich. Seriously?? Excursions were too expensive for the product. I went to Lucaya beach in the Bahamas and that was fun. There was a pool on a cliff right next to the beach and a DJ. The marketplace in the Bahamas was confusing. Many people had the same products at different prices. When you start walking away, they start lowering the prices, begging you to come back. Make sure to get what your money is worth. I don't plan on coming back at all. That's all I have to say. Peace out. Read Less

It was a long weekend and I was looking for deals for vacation, as I was looking for a budget trip but due too long weekend the prices were high everywhere and sometimes dates was not available, finally i came to the page of Bahamas paradise, after going through the reviews I was really horrified with what people stating but still I took a chance to go, I reached port of palm beach carried our passport, the process to check in was simple and nice, we were offered cookies and drinks before we enter the actual ship. INSIDE SHIP:- bit scared by reviews I entered inside and everything was decent, decent enough to praise everything for a budget trip, rooms took some time to be ready, so meanwhile we took a look to other sections, the upper deck was nice, nicely organized everything was good. still I was looking for something worst would come up but fortunately no, everything from entry to deck, rooms were much bigger, nice staff, decent dinning with good food, even they had option for indian food. so in short i would say u name a place in the entire ship and that was all decent, nothing bad nothing worst. but yes if you are looking for v lavish and fancy vacations than you need to pay high. Dinning:- our service staff,Randy, v v decent, he even asked us after our food that if we want to taste something extra, so delighted with his service. Shore Excursions:- affordable and good. Don't believe the bad reviews it never ceases to amaze me how people write such bad reviews and then after I been on a Cruise, a Hotel, or a Destination I think what were they talking about? This boat is very nicely built in Italy and it shows. It is just a little more elegant. The Food was fantastic in the main dining room as was the service. Our waiter Jaquim I believe his name was was at our beck and call we wanted for nothing. The cabin (We had a Port Hole view) was good sized as was the bathroom and the port hole was large. The entertainment was very Good we especially liked the Diana Ross/ Tina Turner singer she was great as was the show in the Main Theater. The show changed and we went both nights and both of the shows were great and very different. We even opted for the Adult Comedy show the second night and Laughed so much I almost hurt myself. I strongly recommend an excursion if your are on this boat or any boat for that matter that stops at Freeport. Unlike most of the Bahamas Freeport/Grand Bahama Island is not just for Tourists but is Half Tourist and Half industrial. Unfortunately the Port is in the Industrial section a good half hours drive from the Lucaya Tourist Area. So if you want to get off ship it pays to do an excursion and enjoy the free bus ride. The excursions were plentiful and reasonably priced with choices ranging from a Day at a Resort to Para sailing, snorkeling, Feeding Sharks, etc. etc. Lots to chose from. For the money you cant beat this cruise we had 6 in our Party and rented 3 staterooms every one had a Great Time! Read Less

My husband 2 kids and myself literally just left this boat! We had a great experience, lots of fun, laughs and family memories. We have already talked about booking our next cruise. The staff was not extremely friendly, but not rude either. The food was ok... not bad.. many food choices. We checked in our bags, they were all delivered to our room within 1.5 hours from boarding, which we thought that was really good. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Room service was amazing. They offered drink packages for alcoholic and non drinks, this is a great way to save money. The kids club was also great. Our kids were excited to attend and didn’t wanna leave. The only thing I wish they had more of was scheduled activities. They had a few.. not many. We have cruises on other cruise lines and it seemed to be a party going on somewhere at all times. Overall, we are extremely satisfied. Thank you all for a great family vacation. Read Less

Time Availability, and Budget all factored into my choosing this cruise, since I was already in West Palm for other travel. I did not want to be gone long, and the ship is brand new and from Italy, so I wanted to check it out. The ship did not disappoint. Unlike the mega cruisers offered, it had quaint charm and beautifully decorated throughout. You walk into the atrium with a Murano type glass sculpture and a up looking view 9 decks above. It was spotless. In fact, I travel globally often, and have not seen such attention to cleanliness detail from a staff like this ship's in a long time. The elevator buttons glisten, the floors are polished, the rails are varnished every day, and the carpets, upholstery, curtains, tables in public areas all were as clean as my own living room at all times. The Elder Yellow dining room was really nice. Food was average. Salmon first night was great, others had beef which was overcooked and tough. Service was fantastic, exceptional staff, every attention to detail one would expect, and beyond for the price of this cruise. Buffet: If you know Golden Corral restaurant, it is pretty much the same thing as far as quality and selection. No other way to describe it. Not bad, not good, just food. Soups were actually very good though. Seafood Gumbo and pepper pot very tasty. Breakfast had omelette station and what you would expect from Shoney's or Golden Corral. The area to eat at the buffet was nice both inside and out on the back deck of the ship. So food aside, the views were great, and service good as well. They have burgers, and hotdogs, fries, etc... outside as well. They were good. The ship is not overly large, a pleasant adult pool with two aft hot tubs overlooking the stern was really nice when leaving port. You can sight see and Jacuzzi simultaneously. Hot tubs were very clean and well maintained, as was pool areas. The second pool is the "activity area" pool and kids enjoyed it, my son won two contests and got virgin bahama mama's. So the other amenities are as follows: My cruise had 600 booked guests aboard. It was half capacity, you can't fault the cruise line for non participation in the events they put together, so here it goes: Casino was clean, smokefree, and what you would expect, nice new slot machines. Front room from there had awesome Latin band perform all night, they rocked. Front of ship crows nest nightclub was well decorated, had a modern dance floor with lights, smoke, etc... and a banging system with DJ but nobody went! Dead empty, not the cruise lines fault. The main lounge was like being in Monte Carlo, well decorated, tasteful seating arrangement, very open, airy, and great public space. Saw Donna Summer singer, was good. Night band was not that great though. The big shows were fantastic! No lie, they were better than the mega cruisers shows I have seen. Each night, same performers, totally different show. My teens had a teen area that was well thought out and a big space with full time staff to supervise. X-box, dance floor, etc... all for them. Went to Lucaya Beach on excursion, was pleasantly surprised by humor filled tour guide with microphone on our double decker open air bus ride to the resort. Very organized, safe, and gorgeous beach. Would do it again. The port itself has no reason to disembark, unlike Key West where you disembark and go on foot, there is literally nothing at this port but industry. USA Customs was slow and terrible getting off the ship at the end of the cruise. Waited an hour with only 50 people ahead of me. This has nothing to do with cruise line. Here is the thing, I feel bad for the bad reviews, everyone complaining seems to lack simple reading comprehension skills. How did you not know about drink vouchers, included vs non included amenities etc... BEFORE purchasing and boarding? I set expectations on what I paid for and knew other fees would follow, as is customary to cruisers, like gratuity, tax, etc... Being shocked about cruise economics is a newbie problem. The staff truly cares, Alex the cruise director is straightforward and humble of his beautiful ship. He asks everyone to fill out comment cards so "they can get better" and I do believe they want to, there is a sincerity in every cruise staffer I engaged with, my fellow cruisers were a true representation of South Florida with about 50 - 60 percent Black and Latino and about 70 percent under 50 if those things matter to you. Everyone got along, no issues whatsoever or bad vibes from everyone enjoying there getaway. Everyone greeted each other on the jogging track with friendly hellos as I passed by. Give this cruise a try and keep expectations reasonable and you will definitely enjoy yourself. I am not an unsophisticated traveler, been all over the planet, and my family came away from this experience smiling and enjoying the memories. Read Less

I read through a lot of reviews before deciding to go on this cruise with my 2 kids (ages 10 & 15). I tried to prepare for any potential issues brought up by other reviewers. It turns out I didn’t need to! This cruise was great! I will preface my review by saying I have sailed in Carnival 5 times before. I needed something that would fit my budget and time schedule and this 2 night cruise on the Classica was perfect! Embarkation was a breeze. We were greeted warmly and everything went smoothly during the process. A delicious lunch buffet was waiting for us when we got on board. The selections at this and all meals were great. Our room was a spacious inside cabin for three. If I had to say one thing bad it would be the shower size could have been a bit larger. There were plenty of on board activities to occupy our time with. We dined in the Tellow Elder for dinner and breakfast and the food and service was wonderful! We caught both big singing and dancing productions and LOVED them. We also caught some of the other entertainment around the ship and they were all great! I loved this cruise and look forward to doing another one! Read Less

The "newly refurbished" Grand Classica was a total disappointment, to say the least. Slapping some paint on the walls and updating light fixtures does not count in my book. Two toilet seats (one on pool deck and our state room toilet) completely fell off when lid was lifted. Staff was rude and not helpful in the least. TV did not have volume for most of the cruise. No washcloths or room service menu were available until late on first night. Garbage from previous cruisers was still in trashcan in state room. Refrigerator was warm, so forget about keeping drinks cold. Only two hot tubs on ship, one was broken. ATM broken. Head waiter in The Yellow Elder was extremely rude. Our waiter, Fernando, was the only staff member on the boat that acted like he enjoyed his job. Food was sub par at best. The bus driver on the excursion, we paid good money for, blasted raunchy rap music the whole time to cater to the drunken idiots in top of bus. When asked to turn it down, he ignored us. "Showtime" singers and dancers were lacking on talent. It felt like I was watching a dance recital for children. Everything was overpriced for the quality you received. Buffet food was cold and tasteless. Worse than army chow. In order to get a decent meal, you had to pay ridiculous prices. Day of embarkation, we were rushed off the ship by obnoxious staff members. I am severely disgusted with my whole experience. Step it up Grand Classica! Read Less
