We took this cruise for mr daughter-in-laws 21st birthday. Valet parking was $40 for the trip. We got to the port around 2pm there were no lines to get through security and onto the ship. There are stations set up before you embark to set up your dining preferences and purchase drink packages. Ten drink coupons are $75. Ten coke coupons were $21 and unlimited non-alcohol drinks is $32. The room was larger than the newer ships we’ve been on with a huge porthole to look out of. The food in the dining room was better than any of the 3 Carnival cruises we have been on. You can upgrade to steak or seafood for a price but we didn’t find a need for that. The Classica has a Dolly Parton impersonator that looks like her, talks like her, and sings like her. This is her 20 years ago, excellent show. The main show was just as good. The pure talent of the singers and dancers more than makes up for the low cost production and the acrobatics were amazing. Don’t expect a lot of fancy lights and props but you will be entertained. Especially the two lead singers, they are world class talents. I would love to see them do a Micheal Jackson set. The only bad time was long lines going through customs but that’s on all cruises. Having a passport definitely helps though. Also, the bartenders were great, there are no weak drinks here and the DJ in the nightclub was very good as well, although being older we didn’t hang with the youngster too long. Read Less

Old, Smokey, nothing to do but sit. This is by far the worst ship I’ve ever been on. DONT GO. I’ve been on many cruises. Horrible experience. You will get nickel and dime to death. The ship is very very very dirty and old. Chairs are plastic and uncomfortable and the tables are wobbly. The passengers are below working class. Lots of tattoos and smokers. This ship actually has an unpleasant order. Extremely boring. Cannot understand the PA system. This I was a trip from hell. Get ready to spend more money than they advertise. There are better ways to spend your money and have more fun. The only good thing about this ship is when we got off. The prices of the drinks were outrageous unless you think $15 fior a bottle of beer acceptable. You can purchase coupons that reduceses the beer price to $10 a bottle - what a great deal. They also want you to pay extra money to cook your own food at your table. Read Less

I really want to go back next year. I took the excursion to Grand Lucaya. its a Beautiful place. Exceptional The saxophone show in the encore salon. the Game for couples stole laughter from everyone present. If you love to play, the casino is very well suited. Decided to take a 2 days cruise to Bahamas while visiting Florida. It was a very enjoyable time. We don’t know why we haven’t done this sooner but will definitely return. Embarking and disembarking was organized and quite simple . The staff was very friendly and accommodating in every section of the ship. Passengers were all there to have a relaxing good time and they did. The food was very good and the dining staff was happy to serve us and made sure we were satisfied Transportation to the beach was good and allowed us to spend as much time as we needed on the beach running every hour to and from our ship I gave our cabin a 4 rating rather than a five only because there was a sewage smell at times but nothing that disrupted our trip The staterooms and the ship itself was very clean. Cruised on the Grand Classica 9/10/2018 to 9/12/2018 WoW! That basically sums it up. My wife and I have completed 70+ cruises. Every cruise line on the South East coast of Florida except Disney. 5 years ago we tried the Bahama Celebration and it was terrible to say the least. It changed ownership and the Grand Celebration went to the Bahamas to be a hotel for the hurricane victims. Then it went to the yards for a makeover. What a change. This cruise was on the Grand Classica and WoW again. Two totally different decors. Grand Celebration is lively with lots of marble shiny floors and a lot of brass. Beautiful! These ships are very old and have been upgraded to beauty. The Grand Classica has the old ship charm of a lot of wood. Beautiful wood varnished railings vs brass and the floors entering the buffet are varnished wood. So clean and shiny. Wood used beautifully everywhere. Yes there are marble floors also, but to a minimum. Even our bathroom had a Teak looking flooring. So nice. Not plastic. As for the bath room. Much more roomier that normal cruise lines. What was excellent was the pocket door for the bath room. So going in and out you have no worry about hitting someone with a normal swinging door. The sink counter top is marble and very large. As is the sink and the nice faucet. Hot water almost instantly. It is not a squeeze cramped space at all. Our room was an ocean view with a very nice large round porthole window. The bed and linen was very nice. The towels are extra thick. Nice gold yellow color. If you look out the window on other ships you will see a lot of rust. Not on this ship. Yes there are sections that need a bit of work. But considering the age of this ship. It almost looks brand new. Looking on the out side. The ship is so shiny white and I saw no rust as on many other ships. Every day everywhere there are crew members cleaning everything. Non stop. At the buffet there was a person posted outside of the bathroom. Constantly making sure it was spotless and it was. All the public bathrooms were very, very nice. Colors were excellent and new looking. Now the food. Very good buffet and grill. Burgers are super big. Several selections of sausage not only hot dogs. What is nice about the buffet are the small narrow containers for the food. Not much in them but many next to one another and the food stays hot. Because they are small. Fresh replacements happen a lot faster than on other ships. Breakfast is standard and very good. Complementary dining is very good. My wife had the salmon, so big she could not eat everything. She loved everything. The second night I ordered the NY 12 oz. strip steak. It arrived fast and perfect. I really think it was 14 oz. it was so big. Delicious and very tender. $18.00 + 18% but well worth it. As for the crew. Unbelievable on both ships. So wonderful, helpful and smiling. Could not have been more pleasant. Many other cruise lines need a crew like they have. That is what makes the cruise wonderful. The two shows were good but the magician was fantastic. So many things to do while at sea. Not much on the ship to do in port. Relax, do the hot tub or pool, get some sun. Bingo was almost a wash out. Mon-Wed cruise only 250 guests. Casino, lots of new slot machines that are NOT on other ships. Nice to see different games. Two pools and hot tubs. Very nice and clean. Lounges everywhere. I mean everywhere. Before paying to see the comedian I strongly suggest you hear him at the two shows prior to purchasing tickets. Getting on and off the ship. Super fast and easy. One suggestion was a shuttle at the island dock to take you to the other side of the dock where all the action is. Otherwise you walk. It is a little distance, only thing if it starts raining. At one time they docked on the other side. The live music was excellent, singers were excellent and the drinks are super strong. Worth the price for sure. Those that will be cursing for the very first time. Read, read, read everything on their website so you are not blindsided on the extra charges. Most ALL cruise lines charge close to the same. One thing to remember. Your gratuity for each one in the cabin is NOT just for your room steward to turn down the bed. Remember, that is not all he does for you. The room is spotless for you. He makes up the room and makes sure you have clean towels for the next day. Turns down the bed that night and brings you all the papers you need for daily planning. It is for everyone that takes care of you on that ship. It is divided. Also in the buffet and dining rooms. If you request ice. He will make sure you have it full at all times. A small price to pay to be treated like royalty. I do recommend these two ships. A great price for a great experience and enjoyment. Usually you get what you pay for. In this case you get more than what you pay for. Most of the time they offer great deals. WE are only one hour from the port. So we will e doing more fill-ins with these two ships for sure. Happy cruising. Bon voyage. Read Less

chose this cruise for price & quick getaway being local. Food was not bad for cruise food. While the buffett was closed due to the low passenger rate they wouldn't even give us the courtesy of a cookie. We basically had the ship to ourselves being only 200 passengers on this cruise. Room was very clean & ship was being cleaned every minute 24/7. We did get the massage specials since we chose to not debark in Bahamas. $68 special was well worth the experience. Only complaint was we were inconvenienced first night due to no air conditioning. While our steward called maintenance 3 times no one showed up. Going to the desk to change rooms we wasted more time for this missing the shows for first night. Belen at customer service was not the least bit interested to compensate us with an room upgrade (which would have been good business since there were only 200 passengers & 450 rooms) or at least a drink coupon for our trouble. This left a bad taste considering …… The shows were actually very good for a 2 night cruise & very sorry for the performers that there were so few people aboard to enjoy them. I would definitely take this cruise again due to being a local & looking for a get out of town to relax. Read Less

Chose the trip as a first cruise for my wife. 2 days on the water is a safe way to determine if a longer Alaska or Eupopean cruise would work. Everything from the booking process through the disembarkation was smooth. The ship is older and has been refitted so it looks and feels modern. The cabin was nice, I jab a lower deck outside cabin that had a HUGE round port hole window. Queen sized bed, side tables, and a small TV (for what?) were in the room. The fridge wasn’t up to par and the head of housekeeping offered us an ice chest but we settled on a constant supply of fresh ice and that worked well. We ate at the Admiralty on the first night, which was an upgraded dining option but checked out the Ocean Buffet which looked substantial on its own. Night 2 we ate at the Rock Grill, on our next trip I’ll try to finagle the Admiralty both nights. The shows are so-so BUT the Adult comedian on our trip (Lou Remy) had the audience rolling in the aisles. If you’ve been to Freeport and hit Port Lucaya then there’s no need to spend anything on the excursions. I’m already planning our next Grand Classica trip. . Read Less

I did this cruise with my wife as a short honeymoon. The price was very reasonable and I was really skeptical at first. I've done other cruises and I did not think you could get so much on an inexpensive trip. The ship was very clean the crew was very helpful. The food was okay the drinks were really good. The dining is more casual than on say a Royal Caribbean or Carnival in the dining area but I'm ok with that, no reason to bring a suit. We did an excursion to Wyndham Resort on Grand Bahama Island and loved it, awesome place! Don't know if it was the time of year or what but the ship was maybe at half capacity as passengers go. The ship layout is rather standard for older cruise ships kind of like a Fantasy or Sovereign of the Seas. This cruise is definitely worth every penny. Read Less

My husband 2 kids and myself literally just left this boat! We had a great experience, lots of fun, laughs and family memories. We have already talked about booking our next cruise. The staff was not extremely friendly, but not rude either. The food was ok... not bad.. many food choices. We checked in our bags, they were all delivered to our room within 1.5 hours from boarding, which we thought that was really good. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Room service was amazing. They offered drink packages for alcoholic and non drinks, this is a great way to save money. The kids club was also great. Our kids were excited to attend and didn’t wanna leave. The only thing I wish they had more of was scheduled activities. They had a few.. not many. We have cruises on other cruise lines and it seemed to be a party going on somewhere at all times. Overall, we are extremely satisfied. Thank you all for a great family vacation. Read Less

To be honest I didn't have high expectations for this cruise and after reading some reviews, I knew to go in with an open mind. I will say, I was wrong. The Grand Classica was an incredible experience. The embarkation process was simple and the attendants were friendly and helpful. There were a large variety of foods available and everything my husband and I tried tasted good. The complimentary seating restaurant has delicious. My personal favorite was the Cajun Broiled Fish Fillet and Shrimp. Just thinking about it, my mouth salivates. Our cabin and ship was clean and there was always someone willing to help answer questions or guide us in the right direction. While on the cruise, there were tons of entertainment and activities available. One of my personal favorites were a Latin band playing meanwhile guests danced. When we arrived to the Bahamas, we decided to spend the day at the all inclusive Wyndham Grand Lucayan. The food was delicious and the alcoholic beverages were good quality with premium alcohol. We spent the day enjoying the pool, hot tub and the beach. The weather was wonderful, warm waters and sunny skies. My overall experience was great and I would highly recommend this cruise if you are looking for a relaxing weekend gateway. Read Less

I read through a lot of reviews before deciding to go on this cruise with my 2 kids (ages 10 & 15). I tried to prepare for any potential issues brought up by other reviewers. It turns out I didn’t need to! This cruise was great! I will preface my review by saying I have sailed in Carnival 5 times before. I needed something that would fit my budget and time schedule and this 2 night cruise on the Classica was perfect! Embarkation was a breeze. We were greeted warmly and everything went smoothly during the process. A delicious lunch buffet was waiting for us when we got on board. The selections at this and all meals were great. Our room was a spacious inside cabin for three. If I had to say one thing bad it would be the shower size could have been a bit larger. There were plenty of on board activities to occupy our time with. We dined in the Tellow Elder for dinner and breakfast and the food and service was wonderful! We caught both big singing and dancing productions and LOVED them. We also caught some of the other entertainment around the ship and they were all great! I loved this cruise and look forward to doing another one! Read Less

We (I am a single female and went with my married female friend) chose this cruise because it was BOGO...and all inclusive but it isn't. I was disappointed about this at first. But that's marketing for you. You pay for drinks, housekeeping, tips, some shows, upgrade on restaurants...but it was a blast and well worth the money we spent! We met so many nice people. I look forward to going again. I'm saving for next year and would like to make it a little longer cruise. I'm hooked!! Staff and cruisers were great...only had one sleepless night... many drunk passengers coming in late at night that were loud in the hall outside our door..I didn't notice the first night ...too drunk... They really push the alcoholic drinks ...I understand ... but it's not healthy! More self control next time on my part and more fun too!! I loved the excursion to Wyndham...went on a double decker bus...included all drinks...lunch...sailing, scuba diving, snorkling, kyaking, pool and activities, jet skies and more! LOVED IT!! Read Less

I saw lots of bad reviews but the buy one get one mothers day was too good to turn down. I can't say what experiences other had only mine so take it with a grain of salt. Boarding- Just flat out excellent. No waiting at all basically work right in and give them paperwork and set dining time. Do paperwork beforehand and no need to stop at blue desk. Go straight to counter. Took maybe 15 minutes front door to buffet. Done eating and rooms were ready. Cabin much larger then newer ships and even had an extra Murphy bed which we did not use but nice. Large nice porthole windows maybe even bigger then the square windows on some other lines. Bathrooms large as well all redone in all smooth fiberglass. A/c is in centigrade but right around 22 was about 70 degrees at least that's what my projection clock says. Exceptionally clean and room steward knocked and introduced himself. Agus was his name said we need anything let him know which we do prefer ice everyday in our room. Fresh ice no issue. Cabin issues zero. Buffet not much choice but just OK. The Rock Grill hamburger, dogs , fries bratwurst and sausages in rear where you can eat outside very good. Service in buffet about average but kudos for cleaning up fast. Sometimes too fast left to get something else and my silverware was gone. Buffet issues: water, all drinks except for coffee. They all had a chlorine taste way too strong. I think the coffee over powered the taste so what I drank mainly. Tea wasn't terrible. This cruise line doesn't allow anything even bottled water to be brought on board so this is a major issue unless you plan on alcohol for all your drinks which of course is expensive. Their sister ship Celebration does not have this issue. Moving to MDR fantastic service little slower then sister ship but getting up to speed. Service very good meals again variety suffers but definitely upgrade from buffet and beef tender was excellent. You can chose Admiral dining room naturally for up charge but more and better variety IMO. Eugene was our waiter. No complaints except for water issue as stated above. Entertainment: IMO they are as good or maybe even better then the big boys. Sound not too loud like Carnival always too loud. Dancing and singing much better the the Celebration. Performances all over the ship were excellent. One let us down a little the Piano man but still not bad. Heard worse on RCI. Many venues and different varieties you should be able to find something you like. We avid the DJ's and what I call the noisy side of ship but that's what you like plenty of that as well as island music, and latin disco. You can party hearty or just lay back and enjoy and anywhere in between. They do a relatively good job pleasing everyone. Now for the bad. NOTHING and I mean nothing is free. Ask for tomato juice upcharge. Free on all the other lines but then you pay double for it. They push drink packages hard especially the first day. 10 times I believe. Like most of the other lines doesn't include the 18% gratuity they call it. I call it a subsidy fee to cruise line. You are picky or want pampered the entire cruise. This line is not for you. Though I will say they had a speech about adults controlling the children. Kudos for trying but parents now days more interested in social media then watching their kids. So expect some rowdy children. Age groups where all kinds so you prefer older groups or younger you can find both. Compare it to Carnival for age groups but better variety then Carnival as for entertainment. No water slides and very small pools. One adult only pool and but one bath size hot tub maybe 5 people max. Actually had two but only one working but since it rained no one use them at all. Games and activities as good as the big boys and IMO again better. Nothing outstanding surfing, rock climbing mini golf just a typical cruise. Lot of wasted space and ship still doesn't have everything up and running including the Ice Cream machine. They have plenty of room for mini golf and sports court so not sure why. Thus the half the price of the others. Now during shoulder months price is almost the same in which case take a real cruise 7 days or longer and enjoy. Go for the gusto! However you just want to set back relax do nothing or party for 2 days without the clean up. This may be for you. Nice 2 day get away. Excursions more reasonable then the big boys and just as nice. Stay away from the cabs take the shuttle service for 1/4 the cost or ship excursion. You may want to check out others like shorexcurisoneer.com as well. You get what you pay for so don't expect all the amenities and services for the bigger lines and just enjoy cheap few days at sea. Disembark : We always take our own luggage off the ship and very fast. Maybe 20 minutes and we are in our car heading home. Read Less

We wanted to go for a mini vacation for Mother's Day weekend. We booked this about a month ago, and we were very excited. My wife paid for a suite (which we were told were the best on this cruise ship), and we paid for concierge service as well. Concierge service included some of the entertainment, one of the dinners and two champagne breakfasts, as well as getting assisted to and from our rooms upon getting on and off the ship at arrival and departure. This refurbished ship had paint splatters all over the terraces. The spa waiting lounge area has rust THROUGHOUT! Windows are dirty. The "theater" was nice but don't look too hard or you'll see the holes in the carpet. We went for our "breakfast" at "The Admiralty" restaurant. My wife ordered eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce had separated (which means that it wasn't made right or was old), the bacon wasn't cooked well and seemed to have been refrigerated for a long time (had "that" taste) and was limp and cold. My waffle was cold and very dense. We left our food on the table and went to the buffet. We had dinner at "The Rock" which we wasn't included in our concierge package (because we wanted to eat at the Admiralty for their steaks and lobsters as the package dinner meal). You cook the food on a heated rock yourself while the staff gets you the fixings. The meat is not marinated or anything. You get sauces to dip them in, but only salt and pepper to cook it. We order rice (fried and jasmine) and both tasted the same...flavorless. The meat and salmon were good quality, though, it seemed (tender and juicy). Most of the staff were helpful when you asked for it. There were announcements on the loudspeakers that no one could understand. And when it came time for the excursions, there wasn't enough help and order for that many people...and the staff stayed in the front of the room where you're supposed to meet and did not go around the room asking guests if they needed help...just stood there goofing around with themselves (they had badges with their names and "YOUTH STAFF" on it). The pools were surprisingly small, and on the adult side, only one of the two small jacuzzis were working. The other had a tacky red plastic net across it showing it wasn't working. The public bathrooms were a hit and miss. The ones by the 10th floor buffet (right by the "Suites") were broken and disgusting. I spoke to one of the staff advising him of the condition and the smell, and he just said, "I know" and walked away. The dinner at the Admiralty restaurant was ok. The rib eye steak was tender but honestly, rather bland (again, the steak sauce helped it). The shrimp and crab claw cocktail was ok (again, you could tell it was frozen and then thawed by the texture and taste). The pistachio creme brulee was really good...yay! Finally, something good. To read about our cabin experience, see below. Oh, by the way, they only have European electrical outlets on this ship, so if you are looking for plugs to charge your stuff, good luck! Our room only had one American electrical outlet, so we had to charge our stuff, one at a time. They had a small kids room which was for toddlers, I guess. I wouldn't leave my kid there; and a teen room for videos. The 11th floor was the deck for the pool(s), DJ, outside dancing, karaoke, and the spa. We got a massage from Gabriela and Daniela and they were AMAZING! They were the best part of the cruise, if you ask me. The gym was ok. The equipment was well kept but there wasn't enough "air" to keep you cool if you were actually trying to work out. I was on the treadmill and the bike and almost died from the heat. The rest of the ship was freezing, though! This cruise is fine if you got the Groupon and don't expect much...really, it would've been fine if we hadn't fallen for the hype we got and paid so much extra money for. Read Less

The Grand Classica was by far one of the worst cruise vacation I’ve ever experienced! Here are just a few things that went wrong...the water was coming out brown from the faucet, the air conditioner was not working, the key cards were not working apparently the battery died and my best friend was locked out of her room, WiFi that was purchased did not work and staff WOULD NOT refund you for the purchase of the WiFi package. Every meal was COLD the moment it touched the plate, the ATM NEVER worked, sold me expired water, they could not provide any wash clothes, the only excuse they had was “it’s their first time sailing” staff was RUDE and unreasonable! Staff was not knowledgeable of the boat they did not know where anything was. There was only 1 outlet to plug anything in to be charged being that the boat came from Europe. I've actually sailed on the grand celebration there other ship and this was an extreme disappointment to say the least. Majority of the excursions were canceled. Read Less
