We wanted to see the interior of Alaska, as well as the tidal glaciers and seaports. Our guide on land was outstanding. Alexa was so knowledgeable and she was able to give us history or the area, plus making sure our tours and accommodations were ready for us. We had Club Class dining, and that was a new experience for us, but and really enjoyed the extras that came with that. Most of all the wait staff was great and there was never a line to get seated. The excursions were very well done as well. We enjoyed the gold panning at Dredge 8, and sternwheel trip on the river, the train ride out of Skagway was over the top. It is a wonder the rail road got built and how the people made the trip to the gold fields was amazing. They must have had the true pioneer spirit. The entertainment on board the ship was fantastic !!!! We really enjoyed the productions shows and the comic was really funny and the singer had a wonderful voice. I highly reccommend this cruise. If you go in Sept. as we did, dress in layers and be prepared for rain and it was chilly late at night when we went out to see the Nnorthern Lights. Read Less

We flew into Vancouver a day early and we’re so glad we did. The food and service on the ship were good and the personnel was great. The ship is a little dated but still beautiful. The cruise director was the best. Great entertainment. The excursions were good. If you go into Skagway, I highly recommend you go on an all day excursion. There isn’t much to see or do there. Glacier Bay was gorgeous. A definite must see!! The glaciers are absolutely gorgeous. We loved Ketchikan & Juneau as well. I don’t recommend the land tour. It was nothing like we expected. The only plus was the train ride and that we were able to see Danali Peak. The cruise itself was fantastic!! Read Less

Our first time on Princess in 24 cruises. Quite pleased with the condition of this older ship. Well maintained, though the decor is a little dated. 2400 passengers is just about the perfect size. We never found it to be crowded anywhere and there was seldom any lines to wait in. The crew were very polite and appeared to be having an enjoyable time with the passengers and with one another. I would prefer self-serve ice cream and more free drink options at breakfast and dinner. The food quality and taste were good, but not over the top. Service was awesome! The cruise director is Awesome! It's the perfect ship for glacier viewing, and that is why we chose it in the first place. Lots of "railing space". Not a lot of activities if you bring along the teenagers (ie. there are no slides, mini-golf, etc.) We will definetly cruise with Princess in the future! Read Less

This cruise was definitely a step up...in food, in service, and in our destinations. We LOVED going to Hubbard Glacier AND Glacier Bay. We were thrilled as we saw whales galore on our Whale Watching tour, and we loved the train at Skagway. Our outside cabin was arranged differently, and better we felt, than any other cabin we have been in. This is our 4th cruise, and we definitely felt more pampered on this cruise, and that the staff was super happy to be doing their jobs. Ok, specifically, the food now, and the service that went with it. So our first experience eating was at the buffet, and it was wonderful because everyone needed to wash their hands before going to the buffet...great move! Then the waiter's even took our drink orders and put our napkins on our laps if you wanted them to, at the buffet! So you can imagine how awesome the dinners were...the service was 1st rate. And the food was seriously as good as it possibly could get! Great variety each night, and the way the food was presented, and tasted, we could have been at any of the best restaurants in the world. Loved, loved, loved this cruise! Read Less

Expect a boat that is not only old but is in disrepair. There were multiple railings missing with straps as replacements. Inside our cabin a drawer and ceiling light was broken. Later in the cruise our door lock broke and needed to be replaced. We even had trouble with the toilet flushing. It wasn’t stopped up, by the way. It just wouldn’t flush. All of this could have been overlooked if the staff throughout didn’t make you feel like intruders instead of a welcomed guest. We saw our cabin steward on the first day and never saw him again. Towels were left unchanged, dirty glassware was left in cabin. From the dinning room to the computer room staff hardly said hello let alone provide a service. We actually walked out of dinning when ignored for 20 minutes. Alaska, on their other hand is a must see! It was absolutely stunning. We loved Hubbard Glacier and took the shore excursion for a closer look. The day spent in Glacier bay was also breathtaking. Read Less

We chose his cruise because it was a best fit in the schedule we had. It was a nice trip with plenty of great scenery but if you want to experience Alaska, this sampler cruise isn’t enough. The ship was clean, comfortable and everything appeared to be in working order. This specific vessel has been sold to another cruise line and will not be used by Princess after this fall so if there are any issues with the vessel it’s not an issue Princess travelers will face in new Year. The caribe deck hallways did smell musty but the cabin (C319) itself didn’t have any of that oder and was comfortable. Beds and pillows were nice and fluffy which made for a comfortable nights sleep. Room was clean and as usual, the room steward was very attentive. While an interior cabin is the most economical, I really recommend a balcony suite to take advantage of great coastal views available on an Alaskan cruise. The northern skies have lone daylight hours, the ship is often close to shorelines and the speed of the ship through channels is very peaceful. From our balcony we saw so many bald eagles and dolphins. While we did see whales spouting in the water some distance away, we weren’t close enough to see what kind of what. It goes to show you though that the potential to see this kind of nature is possible with a balcony. If I d plan a balcony, ask for one that has a partially covered exterior so you can still sit outdoors and enjoy the view on those rainy days and evenings. The food on board was good but on this trip we didn’t use the dining room or any of the specialty restaurants. The Horizon Court buffet was a mainstay for use on this trip because it’s available anytime, the variety of options available should be able to please you on any visit and it’s quick. I think the trend now has been for travelers to select “anytime” dining because they want the flexibility to dine when they want rather than a set time. However, be cautious with this option because on this trip, we know of many travelers that had to be turned away due to capacity and/or wait an hour to be seated. If you value your time consider agreeing to a set dining time before you sail or be prepared to dine at the buffet if waiting in one is not your thing. This Alaska sampler only offered Ketchikan as a port and while it’s a nice stop for a day with great jewelry stores and King Crab restaurant, there is so much you miss by not taking a longer cruise. If you want to use this 4 day itinerary your likely going to test out how you might like the crushing experience, then it’s perfect. However, if you have the time and money to take a longer voyage with more ports, I highly recommend it. I’ve been on a previous Alaska cruise that included Glacier Bay and other ports and have to say it’s worth it if you can take a longer trip and see further north than Ketchikan. Despite a cooler early May trip, the pools, hot tubs, sauna and steam room were all available urging the cruise. Guests had the option of using the pools/hot tubs in the enclosed conservatory or using any of the outdoor pools. While definitely more refreshing outside the conservatory, it was very much usable and suggest you bring swimwear on your trip no matter how cold you might think it will be - you have options. DH & I chose this sailing to celebrate our 15th anniversary. It was the only ship departing from Vancouver that day so embarkation was a breeze. We received an email to board at 1pm but we decided to ignore that & arrived shortly after 11am & were onboard by 12pm. Lunch was available in the Donatello dining room 12-1:30pm. Guest Safety Assembly is at 3:45pm Klondike Sailaway Party at 4:30pm. Mckinley Moose & Stanley Bear will be there to take pictures with you. This is Princess' 50th anniversary in Alaska so for their trivia games, they are giving away "Life-Changing prizes": a drawstring bag of Princess logo items. ( I don't know what they were as I didn't win any). Be sure to attend the Captain's Circle event as you will receive a beverage voucher (up to $15 value) which you can also use in the International cafe. There are 3 Production Shows: Born to Dance, Let me Entertain You & British Invasion. The use of multimedia in Born to Dance & British Invasion really enhanced the show. British Invasion was my favorite. If you're on 1st seating, you need to get to the theatre at least 30 minutes prior to the show if you want good seats because 1st seating/Anytime Dining starts at 5 pm. Puppies in the PIazza: meet sled dog puppies. Midnight Sun Event - Experience an Northern Sunset with blankets, cookies, hot chocolate & the songs of Alaska with Frostie. I tried to attend this but it was way too windy (in the Sanctuary). Every morning from 6 am to 12 noon, you can watch the Wake Show with the Cruise Director on Channel 21. Answer the daily question & you could be picked to win a prize. Answer forms are outside the library on deck 5. On the back of the form, you can also indicate if you're having a celebration. If you notified Princess ahead of time that you're having a birthday/anniversary, they will present a voucher for a small rectangular chocolate mousse cake at your dinner table. Crown Grill is worth the $29.00 cover charge. It includes 1 appetizer, 1 main, & 1 dessert. They also have seafood. Chocolate Journeys - by chocolatier Norman Love. These are available in the International Cafe, Horizon Court, and in the dining room. Each venue will feature a different dessert & at different times of the day. If you have a balcony, that's the best place to enjoy the glaciers. You don't have to fight for a spot at the railing. It's very cold & windy on deck. The partitions on your balcony will protect you from the wind and the Captain will rotate the ship so everyone will have an opportunity for that perfect pic. But remember to enjoy the glaciers with your eyes not just through the lens, otherwise you might miss the ice calving. You will usually hear a rumble like thunder before the calving. The last sea day of the cruise has so many activities, there's hardly any time to pack. Don't bother with the galley tour. There's no one explaining anything, no samples, & nothing interesting to see. British-style pub lunch is 12-1:30 pm in the Crown Grill. Lunch is free. Beverages are additional. Disembarkation Day: Express Walk Off 7:45am, 7:50 am 7:55 am Last group off the ship by 10 am. You must vacate your stateroom by 8am. Breakfast in the dining room starts at 6:30am Breakfast in the Horizon Court starts at 5:30am * We didn't see the Disembarkation form on our door on the morning of the last sea day. But I saw one on my neighbour's door, so I looked at theirs & saw the times for Express Walk Off. DH went to the Front Desk & got the last pass for Express Walk Off at 7:45am. I love how Princess has Destination Immersion experiences onboard their ships. You don't need to get off the ship to experience the culture of the destination. So be sure to participate in the North to Alaska/Klondike activities. One night was the Captain's Gala dinner. Lots of steak & seafood options including Red Alaska King Crab Legs. We had sunny weather in Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan. It was cold & very windy in Skagway & Ketchikan. In Juneau, there is a free shuttle to Fred Meyer & Costco. In Skagway, we took the roundtrip White Pass & Yukon Route. Don't worry about which side to sit on because you will be looking at the other side on the return journey. Free bottled water is available onboard. In Ketchikan, there is a free shuttle to Walmart every 15 minutes. We were on Anytime Dining but on our 1st night, I liked our waiter Mario so much, I requested to sit in his section every night. Also, if you have allergies or a special diet (Low Salt for me), let your waiter know. He'll send over the HeadWaiter who will show you the next day's menus so you can pre-order your meals. There are a limited number of tables for 2 & they are set very close to other tables. If you don't want to share a table, there may be a bit of a wait (unless you go right when the dining room opens). I found the pillows in the stateroom much too soft. They were more like body pillows but the duvet was nice & warm. In addition to Movies Under the Stars, they also show movies on your stateroom tv. We enjoyed our cruise & are looking forward to Japan in 2022. Read Less

Golden princess Off to bad start Princess couldn’t find our boarding passes, had to wait half an hour while they made up new ones. Club class dinning steak like leather . This has happened twice so far, I guess they are getting ready for P&O hand over. Room got flooded out now we have mildew smell, they have shampooed twice now, smell is going along the corridor and people can smell it out side our room. Asked for another room were told nothing available! Ordered steak Diane again tough steak again, the only steak that’s ok is the minion. We both were quarantined to our cabin after my wife got A& B influenza. Meals were brought to our cabin - cold and soggy. The carpet was black with mildew so they tried to clean it with no luck Large blower was brought in to try and dry it, I think this made it worse. We are elite customers and this was the worse princess cruise we have ever had, ship is in need of full upgrade we noticed hand rails that had fallen down the stair case, I believe that this ship is going to P&O good luck with that! We chose this cruise on the Golden Princess to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. Our balcony cabin(A425) was comfortable, roomy and very clean. The bed was very comfortable and the linen was clean and fresh. The ship has aged and there are matinence issues but over all it is a lovely ship to sail in. The art deco features are beautiful and there was some quiet places to go to when needed. The entertainment was brilliant. Loved all the shows except one. This one was not as classy as the others. The Princess Theater needs a little vamp up especially the seating but it was comfortable. We had two dress up nights where we ate in the dinning room. The service there was good and it was nice to dine with other passengers and to be waited on but to be honest and in my opinion the food was better in the buffet/self serve. There was more viariety and heaps of it. The deserts were to die for and the service was excellent. Getting on and of the ship for shore excursions was well organized and good info sessions on each port was presented to passengers before each stop. This made it very easy to get around and what to expect. one negative thing that really annoyed me was that the sitting area in the Atrium was always full. We only sat there once during the whole trip as every other time there were no spare seating. I think some passengers sat there all day and didn't want to give up their seats. The onboard activities was very good and well planned. This was the last trip to New Zealand by the Golden Princess and she did herself proud. Read Less

We originally did not choose this ship, our orginal cruise (P&O) was cancelled, therefore we were given the choice of 3 cruises we could take. Imagine our delight when we found we could go on a Princess Cruise. We had only ever heard good and positive things about Princess. We Travelled to New Zealand on a 13 night cruise with about 3000 souls on board? Being platium members we had priority boarding which literally has us arriving and on board in15 mins. We had 500 mins of free internet, and access to areas of the ship that others didnt for set periods of the day. The quality of the bedding was better, it was a silver service in the dining rooms to which they completely changed the table after every couple had finished eating and all the flowers and plants were real. The Service was great, and the food impecable, not at any point was the menu repeated. You could do as much or as little as you liked. Our room was alway clean and our steward jeni lovely. Bed was comfy but pillows too soft. Plenty of lounge chairs on tops decks, and a large selection of pools/spas to use. Even lookout spots accross the waters were easy to find and accessible. We did not expect those expectations to be exceeded! But they were. An amazing experience that we will definitely be doing again. We were expecting to have mainly relaxation with lots of reading and time laying back relaxing, but instead found ourselves thoroughly entertained with all the on board activities and entertainment staff. The atmosphere is contagious and everyone is having a good time. The food is incredible and the staff are so friendly and helpful. It's something that needs to be experienced to be understood. We wanted to continue to add to our cruise days with Princess to improve our level status. We had 3 wonderful servers at our dining table for 2. Diana, Joel and Plamen made our experience most enjoyable. The destinations on this cruise were wonderful. 1. Although Princess offers dining tables for 2-8, it always requires a meeting with the Maitre'D on the day of embarkation to confirm one. When having that meeting, the MD always makes you feel that the request is an imposition and if they had their way they would stick to larger tables because it is easier for them. We have had bad experiences with the larger tables due to language issues with sharing a table so prefer a table for 2. If you are going to offer a table 2 then support it and don't require people to beg for it. 2. Although we were promised in a phone call prior to sailing that both non-alcoholic beer and wine would be available on board. My wife is a recovering alcoholic and I can't drink alcohol due to a medication I take and it is important to both of us to have both beverages available. That proved not to be the case. There was no NA wine on the ship. There was an extremely limited number of bottles of NA beer and they were scattered all over the ship. We were actually told to go and find which bars had any. No one that we spoke to including Hospitality knew where any bottles were actually stored. Obviously these beverages either are not in enough of a demand or are not a big enough money maker. 3. The room gratuity is stated in all the literature and and on line to be $13.50 US per person per room for a balcony. This cruise was based on Australian dollars. However, Princess, without letting anyone know as far as I am aware, pro rated the gratuity cost to US dollars and in fact were charging $18.77 in Australian dollars instead of $13.50. I believe the costs of drinks were also increased on this cruise to be of equal value to those charged on other ships in US dollars. We made sure that we reduced the rate of gratuity charged to our room and made sure that we tipped the people that served us well were individually tipped as appropriate. Most cruisers are unaware of the fact that they can have the automatic room gratuity reduced or eliminated merely by visiting the on board main desk. Read Less

When we arrived at the port, I was overcome with the size of the ship, and how I would be with another 3000 people. The staff assisting us at embarkation were friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel welcome. The ship was impressive, so many different areas to meet friends or take some time to yourself. I never felt there were too many people, the ship has an amazing capacity to allow one to find their space to do what ever suits their mood. I met new friends, ate good food, was pampered in the Lotus spa, danced the night away in several bars and had a smile form day 1. Needless to say I wasn't sick. This ship had a little rough weather and I was fine. I'm looking forward our next cruise. Read Less

Embarkation and disembarking ran like clockwork,as did everything else on the ship. Lots of food choices and movies shown were amongst the most recent. Activities on board were varied..maybe a few more male oriented could be included..hubby found it hard to go to many of them,as predominantly female geared Ship was kept clean and tidy, and though there were a few leaks around the place,it was well maintained. Buffet Dining Onboard, was the Same as all Previous other Cruises Onboard the 'Golden Princess', the Smell on Deck 7 Mid-Ship as others have said and even on last cruise in Dec 2017' it still has the same Sewage Smell there and it's not from the Smoking, it is a Sewage Odor/Smell. The Live Entertainment Onboard needs to Cater for all Age Groups, and Not just Retirees. Did goto most of the Specialty Dining, and Food there was okay, but Menu's still need Improved, Lacks Variety. Swimming Pools, were always Clean and Tidy, when they were Opened without the Netting Covering them. Bar Staff (I am Not a Alcohol drinker at all) - but Bar Staff, were Friendly although at times there was up to a 10min wait to be Served just to get a Can of Coke' as there Soda Drinks Package is that Watered Down that it's Worse than Mc Donald's or Hungry Jack's Coke, so Real Soft Drink being Coke, or Sprite from a Can is what you can call real Soda' but Prices have gone up as last Year in December 2017' a Can of Coke was only $2.55' and now there $3.75 a Can. Ports, and Shore Excursions where Okay, Train Excursions are Great 'Arthur's Pass' was Fantastic to See, Coach tours are also great too. The Only Port of Call, that I thought was a Disgrace, would have to Be 'Auckland' NZ. Did not Travel with Children on this Cruise Holiday to New Zealand' in November 2018. Would Not Recommend this Cruise Ship 'Golden Princess' and Would Not go back to New Zealand again, But that being said "Milford Sound" at 6:30AM in the Morning is a Fantastic Once in a Lietime Viewing Experience going up the Passage'. My husband and I picked this cruise for our honeymoon. We booked through vacation club Mariott as we are owners. This was our first cruise. The booking process went smoothly, however the online process was extremely confusing, even though we are both tech savvy. The was much confusion on the passport situation as well. My husband’s passport met the criteria all the way up until the week before we were to leave. We were unable to complete anything online because it stated that his passport is expired, even though it didn’t expire until 5 months and 20 days after our return. Princess stated we needed passports good for 6 months after return. However when initially put through, this was fine. After hours of phone calls, we were finally given the ok, however when checking in, we had to got though the whole process all over again. In the mean time, they lost our room keys. After finally boarded, we were not told where to go. We were given a map and they sent us on our way. Mind you, this was our first cruise. We had no idea what to do or where to go. When we finally found our room, we were told we needed our safety talk in the casino area. Again, we had to wander around to find it. Here I thought we would be introduced to the boat, told how everything works, etc, but this was not the case. They showed us how to put a life jacket on and sent us away. We were so extremely disappointed with the start. Then we noticed our floor was leaking and required maintenance nearly everyday. Our bedroom was dingy, with dirty cloth headboards and a smell of mold. There was a glass left in the closet when we arrived in our room. There was also mold all along the tile in the bathroom. Next, the hot tubs NEVER worked. The saunas only worked if you requested the spa to turn it on. The food was good but only in the dining room. The food in the buffet was clearly cafeteria food, except cold. The best part of our cruise was sitting at the table with fellow cruisers. If it wasn’t for them, we would not know the ins and outs of cruising. Such as the coffee is free in the Buffett and dining room, but expect to pay over a dollar for a regular coffee anywhere else. It was absolutely ridiculous. The shows repeated every 3rd day and they were not entertaining at all. Lastly, we were told there would be two formal days. We had one; plus the dress code policy was not adhered to at all. Our stateroom steward, Emile was phenomenal however. He always came in and tidied up the room; he also always brought us ice which we requested on the first day. We did not book any excursions through princess and I am so glad we didn’t. They were way overpriced and extremely full. One last plus, was our captain. He was extremely entertaining with his talks and nautical trivia. Read Less

We did a 3 nights cruise from van to lax and it was the best relaxation ever! The ship is good and clean. Our check in was smooth and we had a very nice balcony room overlooking the ocean. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Our housekeeper was superb and cleaned our room at least 3 times a day. Haha. The food was great and there was a good selection of everything. The Italian restaurants were great as well. The boat is no slouch when it comes to entertainment. The comedy and broadway shows are at par with Las Vegas shows. There is always something going on in every hour. The live band was good and the night club is bumping. There is absolutely no point in staying in your stateroom unless you are sleeping or sick. Overall a great experience and will definitely do a cruise with them again. Read Less

This ship is a disappointment start to finish. People have been rating the ship high because they like the ports. However, this is a site about rating the ship, not the ports. While Alaska is wonderful, the ship, not so much…. Of course, I had read the reviews of the absolutely deplorable conditions of the ship, yet our Alaskan cruise was paid for and we had no choice but to hope the countless maintenance issues I had read about were addressed by the time of our voyage. Take it from someone who just sailed, the issues have not been addressed and this ship is in dire need of retirement. First the accommodations (balcony room, 214, Lido Deck) – the good – the bed was comfortable, and linens were clean. The bad – the carpets were old, tattered and stained, the bathroom is dated and grimey, rust on the outdoor railing on balcony, water issues, toilet issues, and worst of all – the terrible, thick smell of must and mold permeating the entire room and hallway. First the water issues. In attempts to further repair the ship, maintenance would shut off the cold water during the day and try and get it back on for the evening shower routine. This meant that we had cold water on average 1-2 hours a day, at all other times the water was scolding hot. There were also buckets here and there in the hall during the day set out to catch drips. Additionally, the toilets would have periods of time during the day in which they were out of service, hopefully the cabin steward notifies you or you will be in for a surprise – unfortunately this happened to 2 other rooms I was traveling with and they were not able to flush. I cannot emphasize enough the mold issue. I know not every hall was plagued with this issue, but beware, some are, certainly Lido Deck, and it is deplorable. My wife and I are still fighting the respiratory issues from living in these conditions for a week. The conditions on the Lido deck are best described as a health hazard. Public areas – I will start my description of the public area with a quote from bar tender working the pool bar. When I asked him if this ship had the gastropub style restaurant I saw advertised on the treadmill TV he responded “heh, this ship about to be retired next year, that’s for new ships only” – this pretty much explains it all. This ship is on its way out and is treated as such. There are maintenance personnel constantly in view trying to do what they can to band-aid various wear and tear issues around the ship. Picture stepping around guys in jumpsuits and ladders on formal night as you are walking to the dining room. The windows in the pool area are so dirty that it was difficult to see out to the Alaskan scenery. The bathrooms on the pool deck were flooded and backed up as were many others on the ship. The astro-turf top decks need to be replaced as they are grimey and filthy – here’s a tip, bring flip-flops. The deck furniture is rusty and missing straps in some cases. Many of the elevators are down which can make it difficult or impossible to navigate the ship quickly. To put it nicely, the ship is tired. We spent most afternoons when on the ship in “The Sanctuary” for an additional daily fee - $40 per person per day if I recall correctly. This is the only place on the ship I was able to receive service and the chez lounges were comfortable and in good condition. Though the ship nickel and dimes you for everything, everywhere, “The Sanctuary” is well worth the fee. Food – shockingly, the food may be worse than the condition of the ship. We ate in the main dining room one night and the food was unacceptable. The pasta was bland, zero flavor and overcooked. Seafood soup was fishy and unappetizing. The diver scallop entrée featured a few scallops the diameter of a quarter, overcooked, with a side of microwaved broccoli – it all tasted the same. I could go on and on but I will be brief. The specialty restaurants are just as bad. The sea bass the first night at the steak house kept me up all night with the worst stomach cramps and food poisoning I have had in many years, maybe my life – and I thought it was just dry and flavorless, that was the tip of the iceberg. Steak was grizly and overcooked. The worst dish on the ship is the chicken dish at the Italian restaurant “Sabatini”, very clearly microwaved, processed chicken, hate to sound like a broken record here – zero flavor. Ate here again the second night and the pork dish was just as bad. To think, I spent 35 minutes on hold on the day of embarkation to try and make specialty dining restaurants, and the cost on top, what a waste. The only redeeming quality is that good wines are well priced. We had 2015 Caymus regularly and it is the same price or cheaper than my local liquor store – bravo Princess. Cheaper wines are in place on the menu to gouge unsuspecting cruise goers. Another note on drinks, if you want a cocktail anywhere on the ship that requires two different types of alcohol you will be charged twice, or in my case they will swipe your card twice for the “unlimited drink package” which is in fact “limited” to 15 drinks per day. One shot of whiskey with an ounce of Campari counts for 2 drinks – for example. In summation I would strongly recommend, in fact insist, that you avoid this cruise ship. The fact that Princess conducts business in this fashion is concerning and as such, this is my first and last certainly last cruise with Princess. I have done this Alaskan cruise route several years ago with Celebrity and would highly recommend it as an alternative. I believe Cunard is picking up the itinerary as well which I can speak highly of from experience. This cruise was booked by an elderly family member as a gift this year, she says it was the top recommendation from her travel agent. All in all it’s a scam, all about kickbacks to corrupt travel agents taking advantage of senior citizens – avoid at all costs. If you haven’t booked, don’t. I am writing this review after taking a batch of clothes from the trip to the drycleaner and smelling the must on these garments several weeks later, still sticking to the clothes like it is sticking to my lungs. If only I could send Princess my dry-cleaning bill. In the words of one of the members of my party – this ship needs to be taken out to sea and ceremoniously sunk, and this time, the chef will go down with the ship. Read Less

The picturesque views were amazing - like postcards everytime with looked out the window. The staff onboard were friendly and very helpful. The accommodations were spacious for a cabin, and we were pleased with the amenities in the room. No complaints there. The housekeeping staff left delicious chocolates and cute towel/origami shapes for us every day. The restaurants onboard served excellent food choices. Even the 24 hour buffet had delicious options. We had room service a few mornings and they were prompt and the food was hot. We would definitely recommend an Alaskan cruise! The excursions were amazing and very well organized. We got to fly in a helicopter, sea plane, and visit a glacier. We also got to watch beers hunt for salmon. Overall it was an amazing experience. One that we will not forget!! We would definitely go again, and perhaps in a group next time. Thank you! Read Less

We love the Golden Princess and have sailed on her five times but sadly on our lastest cruise we were a little disappointed. We had nine days without TV, internet and communication due to a fire. We were left frightened and staff panicked and several did not go to their designated muster station even after several calls to do so from the Captain. We were in a balcony cabin and the smell was coming into the cabin so we opened the balcony door for air, but the smell was coming into our cabin. We were told to stay in our cabin, but some people were told to wear something warm, take your medication with you and prepare to evacuate, so we were told different things. Our wonderful cabin steward Kurt told us to stay calm and he would keep us informed. After what seemed like several hours the Captain informed us the heavy thick black smoke was under control (fire was not mentioned, but we know there was fire). We were all offered a complementary glass of wine with dinner the next night (we dont drink) and later offered $150 on board credit for no tv and internet for nearly the whole cruise. There were many leakes around the ship. There was a toilet flooding on Horizon level. The ship needs a good spruse up and the cabins are in need of some spring cleaning as they are not cleaned properly for new arrivals. We found a used toothbrush in a draw from previous occuapants and blood on a bed cushion. We went Club Class as this was the only available at time of booking and found the staff we absolutely fantastic and they made our vacation bearable. We were so looking forward to this cruise but were sadly let down. We hope they can repair the ship and fix all the problems as we would still love to sail on her in the future. Read Less

Our Alaska Cruise, 7 days, one way from Vancouver was wonderful. We selected a Suite that came with Club Class service. We were always treated exceptional by all of the wait staff. Some of them went out of their way to make sure we were cared for. The entertainment was superb. There is always something going on to keep you busy, if not you were not trying. The phone app keeps you aware of everything at your fingertips. The food was awesome, we never had a bad meal. All dinners were prepared as if you were in a 5 star restaurant. Prime Rib, Steak, King Crab, Lobster. Seriously Amazing. The formal nights would have been better if the policy was enforced. Too many guests fail to appreciate the opportunity to show some class. We will definitely take another cruise and Princess will be our only choice. We stayed in Anchorage after and hiked a glacier. That is a must!!! either in Juneau or Anchorage. Read Less

3rd cruise on Princess, first in 11 years. Normally we go Royal but this was the only itinerary hitting both Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay. Bad weather. Fog out of Whittier which plagued us for 3 days. We only got a glimpse of Hubbard before the cptn decided the conditions were too bad. Fog in Skagway which made our White Rail trip less scenic. Finally got OK weather in Juneau. Then rain in Ketchikan. Sun finally came out for our sea day to Vancouver. Ship isnt bad but has a few issues. A handrail in Princess Theater came off and almost sent an old man sprawling. Problem with water 1 day and they turned it off from 830 to noon. Some carpet got wet on promenade and we had a musty smell. Other than that it was ok. Ship was built for 2600. Now they pack on up to 3200. Feels crowded. Theater is too small. Not enough places to sit in common areas. Food was passable, though the menu was a bit fancy for our tastes. Entertainment was pretty good but not as good as what weve seen on Royal. For shore excursions - you get a lot of pressure to book in advance which we did. Bad idea. You can get these from vendors at port. And, if weather stinks, you dont lose your money. We blew 340 for an excursion in Ketchikan that should have been cancelled but was not. Balcony room a must. Read Less

Price for this type of cruise was perfect , the staff was so warm and helpful, and the views incredible, and really enjoyed the food and the ship facilities ... would recommend this cruise and ship to anyone considering a cruise thru Alaska. The only set backs was the quality of the onboard internet, especially for the cost, as well as clearing immigration in Vancouver., maybe not so bad for US or Canadian citizens, but for others it is really painful, and extremely exaggerated. Entertainment was fun, the shows very professional, and loved every bot of the cruise. The cabins were quite spacious with walk in wardrobes, by far the best use of space i have seen on a cruise ship, and i have been on more than six cruises , very practical and comfortable, we never felt cramped or closed in, bed was king size, so large and again very comfortable Read Less
