We chose MSC to go away for Christmas largely because of the price. Having said that we paid over 3k for 11 nights, so not exactly a bargain. Where to start? Well we arrived at Milan Linate airport with no delays and only an hour and a quarter flight from London, brilliant. We found the MSC rep at the airport who told us to wait outside for the coach transfer. Well we waited and waited, a coach arrived with the ships name on, after an hour or so, we asked if we could get on, or was minus 1 and freezing. However we were to,d that we weren't ' on the list' so the coach left only a quarter full. After a further hour, we were told by the rep that we were waiting for another flight, which had been delayed. I.e. Eventually arrived 2 1/2 hours after us. We got on the coach and had a 2 hour transfer to Genoa. We finally saw the ship and thought, thank goodness we are finally here. But...no. We went into the departure hall and were presented with a ticket, number 26. No explanation. We Sussed out that every 100 or so people are given the same number and then wait got a digital display to show that number and then they all go en masse to a roped off area. Talk about chaos. We waited again and...very very slowly. Inched our way to the rope. You then go to a desk where they take ticket number 26 and you queue en masse again for security. This took about 2 hours. We arrived on the ship shattered and fed up. We had been ' in transit' after leaving home for around 17 hours by now. Please remember it's only an hour and a quarter flight..,..the ship itself was nice enough, but compared with Italian designers, think Versace rather than Armani. Cabin was nice, very clean and comfortable. Food in the buffet was dire. Italian chefs are supposed to be among the best in the world... really? Most of the buffet food was not hot enough and some of it downright cold. Some also looked pretty disgusting, it's all served in huge sort of dishes which made a lot of it look like slops, but they did have hamburgers and hot dogs and chips at lunch and dinner lol. The food in the main restaurants was better but the service was terrible. We had the late sitting, 8.30, but we were generally still waiting for desert at 11.30 ish. Entertainment was ok, very geared to the 5 million Italian people who seemed to be on the ship with us. I would never say, ' I don't like Italians' I wouldn't assume to know all of them of course, but the ones on our cruise with MSC were awful. They let doors go in your face, stole your chair, obnoxious. They also roamed around in packs with no spacial awareness or consideration for any other guest. They were awful. The trips were ok, very expensive and not worth the cost. Casablanca is awful, dirty and a real dangerous feel about it, would never go there again. The speciality restaurant, Asian, was nothing special but better than the buffet obviously. Our day of departure was another joke, we left the ship on the only transfer back to Linate at 8.30. Arrived at Linate at about 10.30, what time was our flight? 4.30pm, says it all really. Would we cruise with MSC again, no, not even if it was free, life's too short. We received a survey from MSC to complete, when I dud and got to the end, it logged me out automatically without allowing me to submit my thoughts. Says it all really. Don't go...... Read Less

We chose this cruise because it was a reasonable price compared to other cruise lines. The embarkation process was a bit of a joke having traveled for nearly 13 hours to get to the ship, the last thing that we needed was to join lengthy queues and being asked for our tickets and passports every 20 yards - Because one of our children is only 3 years old, we mainly dined in the buffet restaurant- the food was luke warm and incredibly repetitive, pizza, burgers and hot dogs and not a huge amount of other choice, we did dine in the other restaurant a couple of times and although better food, it was still not great, we also tried the "specialty" restaurant once and that was enough. The drinks on board were very expensive, along with the shore excursions and just about everything else. The small shop kept running out of basic items like pain killers etc. The cabin was quite small but adequate and was kept very clean as was the rest of the ship. The staff were a mixture of very friendly, to the "I don't want to be here" type. The entertainment was the best I have seen in 4 cruises and credit to them for that. After about 4 days into the cruise, all my family caught Flu, which was fairly inevitable as half the people on the ship was coughing and spluttering. The disembarkation, should have been smooth, but the security, refused to allow us off, until I went all the way back to the reception and paid 40 euros that was apparently owing on my account, therefore having to make our own way back off the ship and finding the transfer coach to the airport. The clientele on board were mostly Italians, followed by Germans Spanish and French, with a few Americans and us Brits thrown into the equation - I have never encountered so many queue jumpers before and some down right rude people that barge in front of others and think that this is acceptable. Would we cruise with MSC again ? No never, but this is my own personal review and people should make their own minds up whether this is the cruise line for themselves. Read Less

As stated on other reviews the ship is beautiful and to be honest the service in the bars is very good. Waiters polite and efficient. Unfortunately there were lots of negatives. Firstly it took two hours to board the ship, too many people and ques. Lots of prioritiey boarding andyactclub, so you get pushed back. The cruise is very noisy everywhere you go, contstantly people talking/shouting very loud. This includes the restaurant, spa and around the pool. I had to take paracetamol several times. Some of this was not MSC fault. It's the clientele on board and their general behaviour especially Italians and Spanish. For example we paid for passes for the spa for a whole week, we went once. The people were talking loudly and shouting in the relaxation area and steam rooms. Very rude with no thought for other people. I like some entertainment in the day but MSC take it to the extreme. Extremely loud music/ microphone for 6 hours a day! Lots of silly games, guess the animal noise? It was impossible to relax, again paid extra for deck 18 , but the noise was just as loud. Waiters and service in the restaurant was good, but quality poor, sent a meal back which reminded me of school dinners. Reception were unhelpful and not able to deal with the simplest of issue, delivering poor customer device. I spent 2 hours the evening before we left trying to correct my final bill , which I had been overcharged for a video I hadn't. Simple ? No , they asked me to take it up with the it man the morning we were departing. After queing for 30 mins we had to leave to get on the transfer coach. Which incidentally dropped us off 5 hours before departure time ! Lastly I was surprised to see children in the casino and disco at 1am in the morning. No adult areas on the ship. To finalise it's a real shame as customer service and lack of control really let the experience down. Also lack of flexibility on behalf of the company. Iam a vouger member and spent quite a lot on my on board account, but they couldn't adjust my bill and sort out a simple mistake on their behalf ( which was literally 10 euros) . I wouldn't use them again for Mediterranean cruise, not if you want to relax! Read Less

The first embarkation was easy and very smooth. We had been on this ship when it was brand new and we were pleasantly surprised on the updates that were made. The cabin was twice about 20 square meters on the 8 floor with large balcony and ship was new about 5-6 month. The most important was the value for 12 days the price - 1400 euros for 2 adults and one child. Dining, entertainment, activities, and service was impeccable. We have day by day shore excursions there. We have nothing but good to say about MSC company and our shore excursions. Most of the time in every port of call we are booked private tours from local companies. Everything we booked in advance was easy, and our guides was knowledgeable about the places, was amazing and full of adventure. It took some time longer than we anticipated to go through the tendering process to exit the ship.
