Background: we are late 40's and experienced cruisers on HAL, Celebrity, NCL, and RCI. This was a good value (at the deeply discounted rate we booked). Embarkation was smooth. We had an inside cabin. Galveston: We stayed the night before at the Moody Gardens hotel, it was beautiful. They have a free shuttle to and from the pier and the car was kept in their gated parking garage.
