This was our 6th HAL cruise. Our interest in this crossing was sparked by the interesting ports (Cork, Waterford, Torquay, and Dover) in Ireland and the UK. Our cabin stewards (Rio and Ewan) were phenomenal and kept the cabin in perfect shape. They are assigned approximately 35 cabins to take care of by HAL which is an unreasonable workload. We had great dinner and lunch in the Pinnacle Grill with ...

A very fine trans-atlantic cruise.

Second trans-atlantic on the Zdam, and it was great again. The ship is in good shape, and the service is full, efficient, and happily delivered. SY cabin was fine, except for the old small flat screen TV. Those are cheap, with crappy sound, and just inadequate for any cabin. The food in the MDR was very good, as was the wait service. The variety of dishes was wide, and quite tasteful. A ...

Good food, and staff Many times we take this compagny, for the food in first. This cruise was a little longer, and the weather very bad We dont stop in Horta, to much wind Cherbourg rainning Zebbrugge cold, and Amsterdam too So it s like that For the entertainment, not very beautiful, just violin and singers, but to much speaking, and for us it s difficult to understand ...

TransAtlantic experience

A TransAtlantic offers us a lengthy cruise at a reasonable fare with lots of sea days to relax and/or take advantage of the amenities and activities of the ship. We've done several before and always had a good experience. Holland America attracts us (seniors in our late 70s) because of the spacious and comfortable Neptune suite and the accompanying Neptune Lounge which offers service and fine ...

HAL Transatlantic; Mixed Reviews

Although we are much younger than the average person on the ship, we did enjoy it. The ship itself needs to be upgraded i.e. TVs, stateroom furniture, WiFi, Unfortunately, some of the needed work of chipping rust on deck happened during our 17 day cruise; which was loud and annoying. Music was changed after a couple of days from up to date music (rap) to 40's, 50's and 60's music which was ...

4-stars, not 5. I'd need Oceania or Crystal to get a 5 outa me. We LOVE Transatlantic cruises. For the $Value$ seekers, this may be a true bargain...maybe. Zip,zip with Holland-America on boarding and departures. Baltics Ports were wonderful...in April and May even !! Crossing the Atlantic was quite enjoyable. Guests from more 'Southern Climes' had light jackets on when walking or on Aft Lido ...

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. The TA crossing followed by the Baltic ports and then the Fjords and Highlands. 41 days and very port intensive. Embarkation/Debarkation went extremely smooth. The cabin attendants were excellent, We had the unlimited laundry service and it was excellent. Lido service was average. Seemed to me to be understaffed and overworked. Main Dining room ...

We chose this cruise for the itinerary. We've sailed on the Zuiderdam previously, in 2009, and enjoyed ourselves. The ship was showing her age on this cruise, I must say. The staff we dealt with were very good, the food was good, and most of the port stops were enjoyable, even with the cooler temperatures. We were offered an upgrade about 3 weeks prior to sailing and took the upgrade to a Neptune ...

Great Crossing and Itinerary

This is our 3rd Transatlantic cruise in a row. Each cruise had completely different itineraries and we both love the sea days and on crossings there are plenty of sea days to relax as you see fit. My wife and I enjoy the guest speakers that usually have lectures AM and PM on the sea days. These lectures are very popular and they do quite well with filling up the showroom. We choose the less ...

Took the Zuiderdam on a Trans Atlantic from March 16-31. This was our first TA, and likely our last. Service on the ship was very good. The activities were suitable for the passengers, average age 70 plus or minus. The food on HAL is quite good and the dining service was dependable but certainly not very personal nor attentive. The wine list is pathetic, and the prices 3 to 4 times retail are ...
