"One disappointment was that, unlike cruises I've experienced in Alaska, for example, there was no bullion or hot chocolate served on deck, at least none I encountered.Just know you'll need one or no boarding in Florida...."Read More

1-10 of 64 Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades) Holland America Line Volendam Cruise Reviews
Meh. This was my eleventh cruise, (4th on HAL) first in 6 years. It didn't rank highly, in fact it has somewhat put us off cruising, at least for anything longer than 10 days. By about day 11, we were ready to get off the ship. We felt there had been some (post Covid?) cutbacks.
EMBARKATION AND DEBARKATION (Fort Lauderdale/San Diego)
Both were fantastically swift, the best we've experienced ...
We chose this cruise because it ended at our home port of Vancouver BC .
It was also our first cruise with the Holland America line.
Prior to boarding we had to sit on rows of chairs the were so close together that gave us a feeling of clostaphobia.
Upon embarking we were informed that our suites had not been made available due to cleaning etc, so we had to find a spot to sit untill ...
Bucket list and a .uch needed break! Bonus was returning to Vancouver. We were upgraded from a window G to a larger window cabin 25**. No complaints. Our cabin stewards were terrific and always attended to everything. We both felt at home and after 21 days we hadn't grown tired of the pampering! The Ocean Band was our go to after dinner. And the food! Fabulous! Ate in the dining room, and 2x ...
Get out of the continued long winter in Wyoming. The captain was amazing on communication and informational. Hedro in the Pinnacle was amazing as well. We enjoy the pool, and the DiveIn dining. The Pinnacle Grill is the gem of dining as usual if you enjoy steak and seafood, lamb chops, caviar, carpacio, shrimp cocktail. The surcharge is minimal and very well worth on the items (only a couple) to ...
The Cruisers: we are a retired professional couple around age 70, having cruised for more than 30 years on Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Viking, and Princess (Elite status). We felt we were aging out of Princess and thought this would be a good time to try HAL. We sailed on a 14 day Caribbean cruise (10 ports)on the Volendam 3/18/23 to 4/1/23.
The Ship: the Volendam is an older ship that was ...
I have purposely allowed some time to pass before writing this review.
THE SHIP AND STAFF
The review really concerns an apparently struggling cruise line, an aged ship, and a wonderful itinerary. The captain jokingly said it best when after it was mentioned the ship was 23 years old, a passenger asked him what was the effective service age of such a ship. He replied 22 years.
The ship ...
Initially, we chose this 74-day cruise based solely on the “Grand Voyage” itinerary. The ports-of-call for the cruise, most of the excursions we took, and the passengers & locals we met were great fun & exciting. However, Holland America’s cruise ship (the Volendam) was awful - and based on that we would never want to cruise w/ Holland America again or recommend the cruise line to anyone. We ...
This trip was all about the 33 ports and Antarctica. HAL is recovering from COVID like everyone but they seem to expect pre COVID world to return. Nice if incompetent staff. Many things done superbly and just as many SNAFU'S. 5 star passengers who waited many days with no hot water, heat or flushing toilet. I was lucky as cabin worked well throughout the journey. Overpriced spa, who pays $245 for ...
In the past 27 years, we’ve spent over 300 days on cruise ships, and this was definitely our worst experience. And that’s including a cruise to Alaska on the Radiance of the Seas when the entire crew had walked out two weeks before… If we had not previously sailed Holland America, there’s no way we ever would again.
We are low maintenance and have always enjoyed friendly relationships with ...
I travel often and booked this cruise with my family for my parents 40th wedding anniversary 3 months before we sailed.
I booked two Vista suites online 7039 and 7041 3 months ago to be next door to my family since we were a larger group. Our total was over 13K for the rooms.
As we boarded the ship. Without any notice our rooms were downgraded to the 6th floor with separate beds. We were ...
