This review is primarily for people contemplating Viking Expeditions Panama and Scenic South America cruise. This is only my opinion. We are frequent cruisers and habitual Viking Ocean customers (1 river and 7 Viking Ocean cruises). We booked this one as it was relatively inexpensive for a lot of days (18) on a new Expedition class ship. We wanted to experience it and decide if we would invest in ...
We booked the grand voyage for 70 days around Central and South America. Our 1st cruise with this company and likely our last. For 1/2 the money I wouldn’t bother writing this but for what they charge I feel compelled. The marketing and hype doesn’t match what was delivered.
The food isn’t very good on the whole. It’s monotonous, poorly conceived and executed. I could write a book about what ...
We chose SilverSea for our once in a lifetime 70 day grand tour of South America because of its reputation in the industry. I was excited about the SALT kitchen and lab, and I was disappointed. The idea behind the SALT experience is that they offer food and classes that highlight the cuisine of the area you’re cruising, and I really like that. The issue was with the execution of the cuisine, which ...
This trip was all about the 33 ports and Antarctica. HAL is recovering from COVID like everyone but they seem to expect pre COVID world to return. Nice if incompetent staff. Many things done superbly and just as many SNAFU'S. 5 star passengers who waited many days with no hot water, heat or flushing toilet. I was lucky as cabin worked well throughout the journey. Overpriced spa, who pays $245 for ...
I have purposely allowed some time to pass before writing this review.
THE SHIP AND STAFF
The review really concerns an apparently struggling cruise line, an aged ship, and a wonderful itinerary. The captain jokingly said it best when after it was mentioned the ship was 23 years old, a passenger asked him what was the effective service age of such a ship. He replied 22 years.
The ship ...
Initially, we chose this 74-day cruise based solely on the “Grand Voyage” itinerary. The ports-of-call for the cruise, most of the excursions we took, and the passengers & locals we met were great fun & exciting. However, Holland America’s cruise ship (the Volendam) was awful - and based on that we would never want to cruise w/ Holland America again or recommend the cruise line to anyone. We ...
This was the worst cruise I have ever been on, Holland ruined a once in a lifetime experience. Poor communication prior to the cruise: yellow fever issues, requiring a covid test for boarding that was NEVER looked at upon embarkation, telling us to use the verifly app that also did not allow us easy boarding~ never used. A 2+ hour embarkation process. Holland made a big deal NO PLASTIC water ...
First time on Princess. It felt like "old folks" day at the casino. Average age was pushing 70. The ship itself was very chopped up. Not one single deck to walk around the entire ship. The only deck for outdoor walking was just below the lifeboats and closed down half the time for painting, etc. Couldn't they have done that during the Covid shutdown? It was only possible to get from aft to ...
HITS:
• Transiting the Panama Canal was the star of our cruise. It was an Engineering marvel when it opened in 1914 and remains so today. Our ship transited the “New Locks” (completed in June 2016) which has the capacity for larger ships. We also went on an excursion to view the Mira Flores Locks from the observation platform and we had the good fortune to view the Oceania Marina Cruise ship ...
Just finished this cruise last week. Had a great time as we always do with Princess. Embarkation was quick/smooth with a quick covid test administered by Princess staff just prior to boarding the ship. Also had a sea day covid test done a few days in, so we felt "sterile" among fellow passengers and staff (three negative covid tests received over five days). Had a balcony stateroom on Baja deck ...
