I don't know what all the fuss is about, but I actually loved the Veendam. This was my 7th HAL cruise and the 1st on the Veendam. If you want a quiet relaxing cruise this is the one for you. I went with a group of elderly gentlemen and had a fantastic time. Yes, there are not a lot of activities and the ship is older and smaller, but kept in immaculate condition. I had no problems on this cruise. I had a Vista suite, cabin B082 in the very aft of the ship in the corner. The cabin attendants (Indy & ?) were very attentive and kept the cabin in tip top shape. No problems with the heating or air conditioning. No clock, so bring one along, and only 1 electrical outlet but ask the cabin attendant for an extension cord or bring one along also. I found that the food was outstanding. I was a little hesitant on some of the beef dishes, but I needed not to be concerned as the beef tenderloins and short ribs were very tender. The dining room steward was friendly and attentive. Lunches were in the Lido room and a wide selection of dishes. This ship is mainly for the elderly, and the ship's personnel are geared to this age group. I was surprised on the amount of ship's personnel that were on board. Very few children on board. Did not attend any evening shows, preferring to spend my time with a good book. So if you want to get away, read some good books and just relax this is the ship for you. It's not a party ship, so don't be disappointed on the lack of activities. Read Less

We have been on close to 30 cruises, most on Princess. I was so excited about this cruise; I chose it for the ship, not the itinerary. It was so underwhelming and many shared our feelings. It's similar to the Regal & Royal but they are better. I must say Captain Tuvo was among the best. He was always being seen and had a great sense of humor. Our cruise director was also alot of fun as was the comedian. We had one production show and it was excellent but it seems we were cheated on the entertainment. The thing that totally amazed most people was no library. if you want a book, you go to guest services and get to pick from books left by passengers. The claim is people steal the books and Princess decided enough, I guess. As for dining, we have always had traditional seating but got stuck with my time dining. I'm not a fan because sitting with the same people and having the same waiters makes for a pleasant dining experience. Unlike Royal Carribbean, you cannot book the same table and time for every nite. You have to reserve each day and that means waiting on the phone and speaking to someone with poor english or arriving at 5:00. As for the food, the beef was excellent and the rest a matter of taste. Let me say the elevators are the worse! they will pass your floor several times, once when we were in it. And if that isn't annoying enough, when one finally stops, the rude people inside make no effort to make room; in fact, more than once I saw someone push the button to close the doors. Trust me, I can see when there is room. My husband and I both used a cane noone cared. I think with so many elevators, Princess should dedicate one to wheelchairs and walkers. I can't imagine how long they waited to get on. That brings me to, anyone who is familiar with Princess knows they mostly have an older crowd. I'd guess 60 - 80 years average. Children are rare. Princess could do more to accommodate the handicapped. For example, You won't find anything on their website telling you how to reserve a wheelchair for embarkation. I waited 45 min on the phone to reserve 2 chairs and the girl gave me the wrong info. Finally, our cabin. It looks exactly like the pictures. we had an obstructed balcony which wasn't all that obstructed. I love the closets on Princess as they are open and large. Plenty of room for clothes and luggage. The shower was larger than most with a ledge! The tv is on the wall and large. We had a phenomenal steward in Santhosh. First thing I always request is removal of the duvet and a blanket and sheet instead. And ice. He was most pleasant in accommodating any requests. One thing most people noticed was this ship is a bit noisy as in squeaks, etc. I should add, everyone working this ship is friendly and always smiling. Overall, this cruise wasn't cheap and if I had to recommend it, I'd say take the Royal or Regal instead. Read Less

Great Panama Canal experience! The Caribbean Princess is an older ship with great upgrades and a fantastic crew! The Cruise Director was unbelievable and was a huge asset to the fun on the cruise. The waitstaff in the dining rooms were great and worked together to make your ding experience a great one! The ships decor was terrific and the flow of the activity decks seemed you were on a much smaller ship. I loved the International Cafe for there fresh Lattes and service. A great friendly smile to start your day. The Guest Services Desk was always full of employees to help with you issues, not like other cruise lines that have a skeleton crew (NCL) to service your needs.Overall, the Princess cruise line is trying and staying way in front of their competition with there Medallian program which is helping non techy's like me to feel GOOD! I hope they continue to be way in front and accommodating! Thanks Princess Cruise Line! Read Less

I have never been on a cruise before and I came in with little to no expectations and a positive attitude. At first I was overwhelmed with amount of action going on and the small rooms, food etc. But after the initial first day, which was stressful because of flying and nothing with the Princess cruise line, everything worked out. Sure, we did not go on one of our port stops due to weather, but safety was the priorty and I understood that. Also, the staff was INCREDIBLE!! Everyone was so personal, kind and nice! Spoiled me rotten from such great service. Entertainment was great and the whole time I was enjoying, having a blast and was always satisfied with everything. And if at any point I had any issues, they were quickly resolved. The game shows and entertainment was too notch, they have things for kids, teens and in betweens. And obviously adults and older adults as well. We watched a movie outside and ate ice cream, I mean what could be better? So all in all, the best vacation of my life. I would totally reccomend. For a lot of people who complain on these forums, these people are natural complainers so I would take it with a grain of salt. I had an awesome time and would 100000 percent reccommend. Read Less

Totally satisfied with the entire cruise experience! All the Princess Cruise people were so helpful, bent over backwards to help you. Food was excellent, service was excellent! Saw some reviews that the Caribbean Princess was dated. I did not, enjoyed the art, especially deck 6 entry to the theater. Do go at least 30 minutes prior to the events. I would highly recommend the Caribbean Princess, and would sail on it again. Also purchase the shore excursions well in advance they sell out very fast. The Princess cruise excursions were very good. It’s worth any extra costs to book thru them for the security of knowing they will wait for you. We did Panama canal partial crossing, It was sufficient. They went thru 1st 3 locks to Gatoon Lake. They dropped off Princess excursions to buses for all Princess passengers. Did the Old Panama city Pacific side tour with 1 hour stop at original canal Lock. Ship was going thru being pulled by 4 engines. Fascinating, definitely best shore excursion ever. Highly recommend!!!!!! One other note, If you do a tour you only see half the transit thru The new locks, for me it was fine Seeing the original canal lock and Pacific side on the excursion. Trip of a lifetime! Highly recommend! Read Less

Embarkation was very easy. On the ship within 5 minutes of arrival. Cabin was clean as expected. Main dining room food was good, except some meals were sent back because they were served cold. Windjammer buffet was good. Shows were just average and there were no production shows. They did not have a Love and Marriage Game show which we have always found to be enjoyable. Service was excellent. We also like the fact that there were tables and chairs around the pool area, rather than all chaise lounges. Cruise Director was invisible on the entire cruise. I WILL NOW ADDRESS THE PROBLEMS: On the first night, we could not get hot water in shower and sink. The following morning we called maintenance and they said they would fix this problem. We left the cabin for the day and when we returned, there was a note advising us that the hot water problem was resolved. I tried the shower for a few seconds and it was hot. I then decided to take a shower. After about 1 minute in the shower, the water began sputtering and black slime came out and was all over me, from head to toe. I jumped out of the shower and tried to wash the slime off me at the sink only to find that it's water was also black slime. I toweled off the best I could and called maintenance to report the issue. They told me that it was normal to get black slime after the hot water was worked on. They said that I should let it run for 20 minutes and it would clear up. I asked why the plumber didn't do it or at least leave me a note. Their answer was that he couldn't spare the time. They didn't even apologize for my problem. I filed a complaint with customer service. The next day, my TV remote did not work. I called the room steward who came with another remote and that also didn't work. He called for an IT repairman. We left the cabin for the day and when we returned, the TV seemed to work. That evening, we put on the Tv and the remote stopped working. It wouldn't change channels, adjust volume and wouldn't shut off. We called maintenance and spoke to a machine who told me to leave a message, which I did. We couldn't go to sleep with the TV blasting so I tried to pull the plug, but the plug was behind a metal screen and required a screwdriver to open it up. We wound up trying to sleep with the TV blasting. The next morning the repairman came and said that the problem was with the TV set and he replaced it. These experiences put a real damper on our vacation. Other than these problems, I rate this cruise as Average. Read Less

We have cruised with Princess over fifteen times. The service, food and drink staff were outstanding on the Sky. The medallion worked great, the staff greeted us and had our drink orders almost instantly. Our balcony cabin on the Sun deck was modest in Interior size but had a nice deck for two reclining chairs. Being right next to the adult pool was very convenient. Entertainment was wonderful, the Rock Opera was a stand out. Our late dining crew jumped at every request. The chefs table dinner was truly extraordinary, very lucky to have been chosen. The events crew always had lots of activities for us to participate in. The shops were expensive, especially for jewelry. The daily afternoon tea truly differentiates Princess in the luxury cruise market. Spa service was very personalized and not overpriced. Ability to check our invoice in the room or on our I phone was wonderful. The internet service has to be reset once or twice but the best service I experienced at sea. All in all the best cruise we have ever experienced on Princess, highly recommended. Read Less

I’ve enjoyed cruising on Crown Princess before but this trip was not up to par. One of the generators was out and we skipped the stop at Princess Cay because the ship couldn’t run fast enough to make the next port. After St Thomas the wind picked up and due to high seas we skipped Antigua. Understandable. We made next two ports and then skipped St. Kitts supposedly because of the weather. However, two other ships were able to dock. I think they couldn’t get back to Ft Lauderdale in two days under reduced power. This was a big disappointment. The company gave us 35% credit of the cost of this cruise toward another one plus $75 for missing Princess Cay. I felt we should have had at least 50%. The ship is showing wear and tear and now mechanical failure. I recommend sailing with Princess but would wait on the Crown Princess until dry dock repairs in November. In reading other reviews, the generator has been out since at least November. I enjoyed the food and had excellent service from our wait staff. We ate in Sabitini's (not a fan of the menu) and Crown Grill--love it. They have a pop up Crab Shack that we eat at every cruise--it's a delicious menu. Entertainment included a first class comedian and a fabulous pianist. We listened to his workshop presentations on the tv. There were several big production numbers. The cruise director did a lot of scrambling to fill the 3 unexpected sea days. Speaking of TV, the service went out several times including in the middle of the championship football game. Heard this problem from several other cruisers. The medallion service was a nice addition. we could keep up with our fellow travelers easily. It didn't work properly all the time. The ship is looking tired with stains and scrapes. One of the elevators was out of service the entire cruise. I love the Boss Underwater Scooter in St. Thomas. It's pricey but so much fun! It's the only excursion we did this time as the other ports were cancelled. Read Less

Thirty eight years ago we boarded Royal Caribbeans Sun Viking for the first of 46 cruises.. On this January 16, 2020 we see the lights of Ft Lauderdale as we sail up the Stranahan channel on this warm Florida morning. The reality of the moment is here. We are now in our 80's and the rigors of travel have finally caught up. This is our " LAST CRUISE." We chose our favorite ship, Crown Princess. She fits us like a glove. This is a review of the trip. On Jan 6 we boarded our Delta jet for our flight to Fort Lauderdale. Weather in Detroit was 33 degrees. Upon arrival in Fort Lauderdale it was 72 degrees. We arrived at the terminal, picked up our Elete Medallons and were quickly in our stateroom, B632 aft. Our room was very pretty with new carpets and soothing colors. Our Steward left much to be desired. Lets leave it at that Special note: On Jan 6, prior to sailing, we were advised due to mechanical issues that Princess Cay would be cancelled and we would have 2 sea days enroute to St Thomas. On Jan 9 we were again advised due to 40mph gale force winds that the Port of Antiqua is cancelled. On Jan 13 the Port of St Lucia is cancelled due to 50mph gale force winds and we would be sailing 3 days back to Port Everglades. The end result was on this 10 day cruise, we would have 6 days at sea. We did encounter very rough seas and would proceed to Barbados. We were ok from Barbados to St Lucia. Enroute to ST Kitts we were advised due to 50mph gale force winds the port is cancelled and we would sail 3 days back to Port Everglades. On this 10 day cruise, 6 days were spent at sea. We tried to explain to the first time cruisers that this does happen but it was unusual for this time of year. The Crown. This was our 5th time on the ship. She was refurbed in 2016 but we did notice she was wearing a bit around the edges. Some carpet was showing wear in spots. A few carpet seams we coming apart. We did notice the overhead on our balcony was showing a lot of rust, something we had not seen before. We did have problems with our balcony door and a television that kept turning it's self off. We learned the meaning of the term "Reboot." Overall she is in excellent condition. There was a much to do if you wanted to participate. Bingo and many trivia games through out the day. In the beautiful Atriun there was always something going on both day and in the evening. The computer room was always busy. Movies Under the Stars was popular. Do a lot or do little. Thats the beauty of cruising. Service on board was 5 star +. Dining rooms, Horizion Court, The Main Desk including the entire Crew. Princess has the best service of any cruise line on which we have sailed. This being our cruise #46 we have visited these ports on many occasions. St Thomas for example, 21 times. We did not take any tours but visited the port side shops. The early days of cruising all Eastern Caribbean cruises visited Nassau, San Juan and St Thomas. Times certainly have changed ! Food is subjective. We would rate it good but not great. We only ate in the Da Vinci dining a few nights. One night service was very slow. The menu included soups, salads and a nice variety of Entrees The Horizon Court was a different story, breakfast was not the greatest. Easy over eggs always cold. Link sausage cold half the time. However there was always a good variety of food. Breakfast in the dining room was always good, nice selection and food was always hot. Lunch and dinner in the Horizon offered many choices, mostley good. There was always a different theme each night. I lived at "Slice" the best pizza at sea. The Salty Dog pub offered great hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and chicken sandwiches etc, This is just our opinion and we are sure other passengers saw it different. Service was A+ in the Horizon. Princess also had two Pub Lunches. Real British food. Princess entertainment has always been tremendous. They had a couple of great comedians, two excellent girl singers and of course the big Production Shows,Magic to Do and Blame it on the Boogie. We would like to mention A J Clark. He played the piano and sang. He packed the Princess Theater and the Explorer Lounge when he appeared. He also gave two lectures on the "American Songbook." Outstanding ! British Pub Night in then Explorer Lounge was great fun for all. Princess knows the entertainment business. We did a few kids around the ship but beyond that we are unable to comment. It is difficult to say "last" cruise but there comes a time when you must face reality. The reality of aging. We stand on deck this warm morning having faced this reality. Are we sad ? Heavens no ! My bride of 62 years and I have been blessed to sail on so many cruise ships. Psalms 107 says, "They that go down to sea on ships see God's works and the wonders of the deep" We have witnesses these wonders 46 times. How many people can say that ? For Embarkation we tried Princess" EZ Check." For $25 pp we filled out a form and turned it in at the Main Desk. The final night we received printed Boarding Passes along with special Luggage Tags. Our luggage was picked up outside our stateroom and the next time we saw it was at Detroit Metro This also allows you to disembark anytime you choose, first, last or in between. When we arrived at Ft Lauderdale Airport, we showed our boarding passes and Passports to TSA and went directly to the Security check point then to our boarding gate It has been our pleasure to share our cruise Read Less

There was a lot of gray hair on this cruise, including my own. The ship was prepared for the cruisers with the selection of music played throughout the ship, both live and canned, were age appropriate . There were two levels of adult only pool areas, one free and for a fee. The best part was the minimum announcements. Due to location, we have cruised mostly with Carnival, but no more. The Carnival CD's (and those on RCCL and NCL) make too many sales pitches under the guise of information. The food on Lido was very good including my favorites Indian and Mexican. The bread/rolls were also excellent, hard on the outside and soft in the middle. Entertainment included only one comedian, wished for more, and a Beatles Mania show. Both were great, Come early to get a seat. The stateroom, beyond the usual, had a 46" LCD TV, not only that, it had live TV shows and recorded TV shows and movies for free! After a hard day of eating and lounging in the sun, it was a pleasure to be a couch potato for a few hours. Service was excellent, keep up the great job Denchai, our cabin steward. We chose this cruise as we wanted to totally relax and as we had been to St. Thomas and St. Maarten before and LOVE both these ports, we knew we could just meander about, take our time and enjoy the sea days as well as ports. This cruise was to celebrate our retirement and was perfect in every way. Having been on numerous cruise lines in the past as well as 4 other Princess cruises, we found ourselves always saying "this is much better on Princess." An example … my husband purchased a drinks package - I do not drink much at all so did not feeling if I wanted an occasional drink, I could buy one. On other cruise lines, both of us would have to buy the drinks package, they wouldn't let one person only in the cabin buy one. For dining, we had any time dining as each day is different and we wanted the flexibility of different times / meeting different people. We never had to wait, no matter what time we chose. On other cruise lines, unless a reservation was made, there was definitely a wait! Medallion class ship - way ahead of the curve on other lines - as you approach your door, the medallion unlocks it, you tap to get on/off the ship, order food/drinks, etc - well done Princess. My favourite though was abilitiy from the app on our phones to find my husband - the best! The staff - very customer-service focused. Again on other ships at breakfast, you automatically got your own coffee/juice at the buffet which I always do. On Regal, as soon as you sat down, someone was there offering coffee and whatever type of juice you would like. Similarly, when finished, the plate was taken away. While they were very unobtrusive, they were there magically when you needed them. Dining room food was amazing. Again, on other cruise lines, to get the level of food we had in the dining room, we had to go to speciality restaurants. No need on Regal - the food was top class in the dining room with lobster, lamb, Beef Wellington, etc and many other quality choices normally only served in the specialties. Entertainment: - again ahead of the curve - not only with their production shows and props which were totally amazing and professional but they had the rights to "the voice" - which the called "Voice of the Ocean - with same stage set-up with chairs/judges, etc. - well done Princess! As always, we love "Movies under the Stars". Cruise director was great and a natural comedian - I always judge the entertainment by how good the cruise director is and this one did not disappoint! Lots of choices also in other eating venues - the International Café is one of our favourites with cappuchinos, lattes, etc. but I could also get my favourite soy milk if I asked for it. Breakfast sandwiches, fabulous voghurt parfaits, lunch salads, sandwiches, deserts that are out of this world and much more and all free. Some other cruise lines have converted their cafes into Starbucks that is not free - these things all add up. Alfredos is another free restaurant that makes fabulous home-made pizza, calzones, pasta, etc. - a real find and scrumptious. Outside food such as the grills, BBQ's ice cream are available constantly and great. We love the ports on this cruise. For us the idea was to relax with not too many shore excursions as our last cruise on a different line was chock full of excursions in Europe so the idea was to take it easy - mission accomplished. Princess Cays offered a free beach trip with wonderful catered BBQ lunch and everything you could want including the turquoise clear water of the Bahamas. A very relaxing day. For us, we love to wander around St. Thomas and St. Martin is our favourite island. The shops in both locales are great and for us, we love there are so many, especially jewellery as it is a great way to compare and get the best deals. St. Martin has the benefit of the dutch and French side including the myriad of shops in Phillipsburg and the great boardwalk next to the beach which is also stunning with a great backgroup of mountains reaching as far as the eye can see. We went to Maho beach area as we had stayed in a hotel there before and it was great to see it had totally recovered from the hurricane. Lovely mall at the port - Havensight which we adore walking around on our way back from town. The main thing about these ports - totally safe and amazing friendliness of the residents - make you feel valued. Sea days offered lots of options with line dancing, bingo, unusual competitions, etc - just wonderful. This cruise, I can honestly say, made me feel I do not want another cruise line, except Princess - the best cruise out of the 16 we have taken to date! We also had a VIP casino offer on this cruise and the casino spoiled us with many lovely gifts and amazing service. Read Less

We chose this sailing and ship because of good reviews. Big mistake. We also paid more for Club Orange and the Signature Suite. These are both a waste of your hard earned money, no priority or extra services as promised. Once boarded, we were informed the ship was sailing with only one engine/propeller, and this caused a change in the itinerary because the ship would be moving slow. Holland America was aware of this weeks prior however there was no communication to the guests. The Islands and excursions were why we chose this sailing. Big disappointment. While there was many issues beyond the control of the crew, i.e.- earthquake in Puerto Rico- no electricity/constant rain in Turks\nothing to do in St Croix due to short visit/no stop in Halfmoon Cay due to high seas and a medical evacuation ..there were many hospitality issues. Crew was ESL and needed more English classes. Overall cleanliness in Lido Buffet and comman areas- sticky tables/dishes trash, empty Lysol wipes in gym, .. the crew on the last day became overly friendly that my granddaughter asked why are they suddenly so nice? Can you say gratis? Also the Captain asked that no one go to the guest service desk as there was nothing they could do. The line was long and guests were constantly complaining. I was told "no" by several of the crew, even asking for soft bread at dinner was a no? No special orders, no remembering our names, no extra towels and a general feeling of inconveniencing the crew for anything. We traveled with our teen granddaughter, lacking teen activities, mostly a senior cruise. I work in hospitality and know what great service is and is expected. As you can read, I was not satisfied or feel this cruise was worth the money or the time. Reconsider if you have booked. Read Less

We choose this cruise because it was going to Turks and Caicos one of favorite stops! Also a sponsored cruise by our community so many neighbors on board! We did do Rudi's Sel De Mer and for the extra charge this is well worth it! We also did another night at the Pinnacle Grill along with the Canaletto Italian fare included by VacationsToGo. I do need to say we enjoyed the Canaletto the best maybe because we are partial to the food! My wife had the Veal Scallopini and I the Lobster Ravioli. The Langoustine-Tomato Soup is the best we ever had! Entertainment: The dance crew were excellent and we really enjoyed (the comedy) Mike the ventriloquist with Terrance his Figure! Terrance kept picking on this loser in the first row who didn't understand the humor as Terrance kept saying "What A Loser"! In Gran Turk we did the Grand Turk Exclusive Supreme Snorkeling Tour almost 4 hrs. Snorkeled the wall first and then some shallow reefs. Tasting the fresh conch was excellent and conch salad even better! The Stingray back massage was a kodak moment to be captured and remembered! Thank you Capt Gary and First Mate Marshall for a trip to be remembered! These guys need a big tip also! Nieuw Amsterdam azipod thruster malfunction forced a change in Itinerary from stopping at Saint Martin and sailing to St Croux instead! This was a welcome change and we had the best weather day at this stop! Don't miss a small bar on the nearby beach run by Shelly and Big Sexy what a hoot that was! Best drinks better than the ship and best jerk chicken! Stop in Old San Juan just after first earthquake not so great with most stores closed due to power outage! We did not make the Half Moon Kay private island stop due to high winds and poor weather! Best Martini's on the ship are made my Michael in the Pinnacle Bar midships! Give Michael a big TIP!!! Just one note on our room we had Cabin #8147 STBD side just under the Lido Deck Sea View Pool area. You will be awoken by the movement of chairs and tables every morning between 6 and 6:30 am. Noise also goes to 11pm at night depending on the weather. Do not recommend staying on deck 8 aft unless you are a heavy sleeper! Read Less

We chose this cruise because we had not visited most of these ports yet and Princess is our primary cruise line. We also wanted to experience Sky Princess, since it's the newest ship we have ever cruised. We enjoyed it greatly. It's a beautiful ship. We had hired Victor Rosales of Mahahaul EcoTours for a day of birding in Costa Maya. We went to several different areas and saw some colorful species that were new to us. Victor also included a delicious lunch at a little beach-side cafe in Mahahual. He is well-trained, educated and experienced and speaks fluent English as well as his native Spanish. He also does other types of tours as well, specializing in small groups. I would be happy to use Victor again anytime. While in Cozumel, we took the Princess excursion to Tulum. Our tour guide, Marco Polo, was great and quite informative. While in Roatan, we contacted Jensen Wesley and he drove us to the Carambola Gardens as well as Sandy Bay where I was able to do some great snorkeling. We enjoyed being off the beaten track there so it was not crowded with people. Jensen was very helpful and we were lucky to connect with him. Sky Princess is a bit larger ship than we usually book but it did not feel crowded most of the time. However, anytime dining did have long waits if one went to dinner after about 6:00pm, which we usually do. Food in all venues was excellent. We did not use the specialty restaurants. Our balcony stateroom was super and even though quite forward, ship motion was very minimal. Captain Tuvo of Sky Princess is a real treat too. The fitness room is well equipped. The casino is good and has a computerized Texas Holdem table that made for some good poker games. The Medallion system worked well on board although we did not download the app for use on our phones. The ship's internet was the fastest we have ever used on a cruise. Read Less

Chose Koningsdam for itinerary, departure date/port, cabin location and Culinary Arts Center. Three weeks prior to sailing I was informed the Culinary Arts Center had been changed to Club Orange, an extra charge upgrade dining outlet and priority in guest services that certainly was not fully explained. Consequently there were no culinary talks/demonstrations, etc during the cruise. I would have changed cruises had I known sooner. Carnival's cost cutting is really making its self felt in the F&B areas. Top to bottom it is certainly not what we experienced on past HAL cruises. Short staffing in kitchens and elsewhere led to really sloooooooow service both for food and beverage in all outlets. Dining room food seemed to be dumbed down and what is with all of the thick, heavy soups on a Caribbean cruise? Gone are the refreshing chilled fruit soups from past cruises. The F&B director, Chris, seemingly proudly announced that the crew ate rice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Even many of the plastic glasses in the Lido Market were cloudy, making them seem dirty. The best points of the cruise were aspects of the ship itself. The art work was the best we have seen at sea. Could always find a quiet place to read and people watch. And HAL has every line beat with their Crow's Nest high above the bow. What a great place to have early morning coffee watching the dawn and/or coming into port. (BTW, the only improvement in F&B over this HAL cruise and others is that we had coffee available 24/7.) Read Less

We, as a group of couples, decided that we would like to be on a New Year’s Eve cruise. This was one that had an itinerary, and price that we were interested in. Check in went well and was efficient. The rooms were a great size and had tons of storage. Not happy with not having a turn down service, but, found that that was the least of our problems. The first night at dinner, I decided to order meatballs and some pasta. This was seriously the worst meatballs I’ve ever seen. They were made with the teeny tiny portion or the melon baller. They usually y give you only three but he said he would give me a large order. Everyone at the table actually broke out in laughter when then saw the size of the meatballs. Then we tried to get drinks when we first sat down and was told they don’t do drink service in the dining room. We finished dinner and went to the bar. The bar’s didn’t have cranberry juice. Our friend only drank cosmos. Only one bar had cranberry. Someone else decided to have a Bloody Mary. No bloody Mary mix. No tomato juice either. Then, my husband drinks crown (in our drink package). All out. Had to go to a different bar. If all of us were together and we wanted t-o drink , we had to follow each other to different bars so we could all get our drink of choice. We went to the pool. The pool bar said they don’t stock crown. They didn’t have cranberry either, and they ran out of Bloody Mary mix. I even approached the bar manager. He did make sure we had cranberry, but the rest were missing. Most ships give you all of the ice cream you want. On this one you had t-o buy it. Water too. The tv was ridiculously small. The shows were ok but the translation after Italian, French German, Spanish was so long. The muster on the first night at nine o’clock took 45 minutes. Tiresome and frustrating. There was little to no communication on this ship. Most staff didn’t speak English. The topper was when I met a family that the father/father in law took them all on a cruise. He , as it turns out. Was the former president of costa cruise line. He gets free trips. He said he wouldn’t go on another costa cruise. Now for the food. On New Year’s Eve we picked lobster. The absolute worst thing EVER. It was not a full lobster but sliced in half and you only got half. Of that half, there was , maybe , a quarter of an ounce of lobster in the tail (I’m being generous). It was over cooked. You didn’t know how little there was because the tail was filled with potatoes. Ugh! The claw was so overcooked that you couldn’t prey the meat out. Not that you had the opportunity to because they never gave you a fork that would fit in the claw. We were all so disappointed. We had a cruise booked on the costa favulouso. We canceled. We were also unhappy with the crew. They seemed like they didn’t want to be there. Almost all had attitudes. The bartenders were awful. We asked for a mudslide and they said they don’t make them.....company policy. Never again Read Less

Enjoy travel with Celebrity. Got a great package on this cruise..However dining room meals left much to be desired Limited menu. . Had meals twice in dining room then selected buffets. Enjoyed three nights of Specialty Dining. Raw on five was a great surprise. Oysters and Crabmeats were fresh and delicious. SHOWS were disappointment. Loud. More for younger crowd. Chose to skip shows in favor of entertainment at various longer areas. Greatest disappointment was the room's design. Very large with king bed. However, if you want, or expect, a balcony on which you can sit in the sun as the ship is sailing. Or have breakfast in the morning this is not the ship. You have a window to raise or lower.our cabin location on deck six provided a partial view of lifeboat s which limited ocean viewing. Not in any way anything I would select again. We have sailed on the Equinox three other times and had a great experience so we decided to try the New Year's eve cruise. We have a total of 30 cruises with all on Royal Caribbean except the Celebrity cruises on the Edge and Equinox. Getting on the ship was a breeze and we were amazed at how fast boarding went. Our luggage arrived before we sailed and was delivered about an hour after our arrival! Nicely done. One of the reason we chose the Equinox is due to their excellent food in the Oceanview Cafe. I am sorry to report that we were more than disappointed with the quality and selection of the food. Originally we had planned to eat every mean there and skip the Main Dining Room but we ended up going to the MDR to get better food. The food in the MDR was a bit better but the portions were very small! The service in the MDR was excellent and Waiter Michel and his assistant Amol did a great job. My wife ordered a meal that had mashed potatoes . The size of the potatoes was similar to a golf ball! Another reason we booked the Equinox was the Martini bar. Again we were very disappointed in that on past cruises the bartenders were very professional and remembered what you preferred to drink from day to day. There has always been a big following at the Martini bar but things have changed. There was no spark that got the customers happy. The usual bar tricks were now at a minimum and service was quite slow even when there were few people there. The Martini bar DJ was a non issue unlike past cruises. We did find a hidden treasure in the Sunset bar on deck 15. It fit our needs perfectly and Oneil, our bartender did a great job. Only downside was cigarette smoke in the area. The ship was in good condition and clean. Our room was good with a comfortable bed. Sharilyn was our attendant and did a good job on a daily basis but there were no extras like folded towels like animals...it was just basic cleaning and nothing else. Overall the crew was pleasant but no one stood out in customer service. Departure from the ship was easy with self serve. We started departure at 7.15am and by 8.00 we were through Customs, transported to our parking and on our way home! Well done. Overall it was a nice cruise and we enjoyed the New Year's festivities. Fortunately Christmas decorations were still in place for most of our cruise and were beautiful. Yes, we booked again for another New Year's cruise! Read Less

We chose this cruise because of the dates it went out. We forgot that it was school vacation and that there would be so many children on board. Most of the children, the parents took very good care of them, but there were a few that the kids, especially two little girls kept running around the halls and bar area, dragging on the floor. The bartenders had to keep telling them to please not to do that, it was very annoying. Our cabin steward was very good and always there when we needed him. The food, however, was not our choice of food. At the buffet the food was cold and dry, the carving station, the meat had been cut ahead of time and it was dry or not the cut we liked. We only went to the dining room a few times, they didn't have enough tables for two and it took too long to get waited on. The first comedian was very boring, other than that the rest was good. Service was always very good. Ports and shore excursions good. Sad that we couldn't go to Grenada due to a problem with the ship. Always a problem with this ship. last time it was the thrusters and this time it was the generator. As far as going to Dominica, to me it's a waste of time, the dock is terrible and the downtown is like a third world country. We stayed on board. the other ports were fine. Read Less

This cruise was a last minute decision and I was skeptical of the low fare, but booked the 10 day cruise out of Ft Lauderdale and traveled with 10 friends. I have traveled the last two years with Viking and had 3 previous cruses with different lines and I have to admit that my experience with Costa on the Luminosa exceeded my expectations. Was it perfect? No. But I have very little to complain about. I don’t understand the food complaints. The dining room food was as good or better than Viking. The service was a little slow, but we had 11 at our table and there were few mistakes. The buffet on deck 9 was equally good...both breakfast and lunch. The pizza was good and always available. Wonderful fruit and pastries. There was a full selection of onboard activities. My group participated in the 4 dance classes offered most days. The show each night was entertaining and no problem getting seating . There was live music in numerous locations and plenty of dance floor. My cabin was the largest I’ve had on a cruise; elevators were quick; and I thought the decor was uniquely Italian...beautiful. Language no problem. Cons: only two electrical outlets in cabin; one in bath and one across from bed...non on headboard wall. No free wi-fi. Two of the excursions were more about selling you merchandise than anything else. IAll-in-all, very pleased and will cruise with them again. Read Less

It sounded like fun to sail away for the Christmas holiday but it was last minute and many cruises were booked. Along comes Costa with their fantastic itinerary and price. I read many negative reviews before sailing but I am here to tell all of you and especially those of you in the US, not to pay attention to the negative reviews. Embarkation was the fastest we have had out of 6 cruises including Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Carnival and MSC. We arrived about an hour after they said we could embark and got right on the ship with no waiting. Our room key was in the room so we went directly there and while checking out our cabin, the suitcases were delivered! The balcony cabin on deck 7 was like any other balcony cabin room we have had however there was much more storage space on Luminosa. The ship is immaculate at all times. We had a service problem with the only American electric outlet in the room but it was fixed immediately. Entertainment crew does their best to get everyone involved. There is sometimes a language barrier but it wasn't an issue. Our one and only issue was that the cruise director spoke mostly in Italian and when he spoke in English it was so rushed we couldn't understand. Food was outstanding. The buffet is open several hours a day. The restaurant was entertaining. Excursions were well organized and we enjoyed our very much. Disembarkation was organized and very fast. All in all, we had a wonderful time on Luminosa and it was a terrific value for the money! Read Less

I chose this cruise because of the age of the ship, the ports of call and the length of the cruise. Also, because of the departure city of Fort Lauderdale. If you plan to stay overnight in a hotel would suggest you book one with free shuttle service as fares can be high getting to & from the airport and the port. Being a first time cruiser I found the embarkation and disembarkation were quite easy. The Regal is a beautiful ship. The cabin was a good size for two and the partial obstructed balcony on Deck 8 was fine. The cabin was mid-aft and I would chose it again Any time dining was great, and was 2 decks down from the cabin. The free buffet was on Deck 16 and lots of choices. Lots of entertainment & activities for everyone. The service was great. The staff were helpful and courteous. Shore excursions were okay and good for us first timers. I would go again but different itinerary. It would be nice to have an online map of the ship to help with getting around. The Medallion Class is an excellent innovation. So easy to use as you don't need to carry cash. Read Less

Chose this cruise because it covered both Christmas and New Years. Got the Neptune Suite on Deck 4 that has the wrap around balcony because we love sitting outside watching the world go by and the stars a night. Suite is a little smaller than the normal NS but the balcony is enormous. Embarkation was a breeze, security and check in took a total of 10 minutes (arrived at 11AM) comfortable Suite Lounge with water and snacks before boarding. Perfect stateroom service during the cruise including breakfast delivered on time and hot just about every morning. Did not use the MDR at all. Pinnacle Grill 5 nights including New Years eve with Wagyu Beef and Lobster with wine parings for all 4 courses. Club Orange a couple of nights and Lido when we did not feel like changing out of shorts. Lido buffet seemed to have gotten better since last cruise in March 2019 with quality main dishes, salads, deserts, and breads. Ports were all good as we have been to most before with the exception of St Vincent. Booked a couple of tours through other sources and one through HAL all went off without a hitch. Entertainment on board was good with a couple of decent comedians, some singing and a dance company that all entertained us during the cruise. BB King club was good and the Rock Club also good. Was able to find quiet spaces to read a couple of books during the cruise. Disembarkation was a snap, if you are in a hurry to get to the airport or your parked car consider grabbing a porter that will get you through the customs process FAST and on you way. Ours got us out the door in 5 minutes and in a cab to the airport in 2 more. Read Less

We chose this cruise because the ship was new and we never cruised on Princess. Here are the pros and cons. Balcony BC Cabin was new and very nice but did not have a sitting area and the shower was extremely small with curtain. The TV was not interactive ( I explain this somewhere in the review). Ships decoration was surprisingly designed the old style with lots of corners cut at the pool area and above areas to save money. Theatre shows were good. Comedian was funny. The magic comedy show was boring, I don't like to hurt anyones feelings but the truth. The music in the public areas like the Piazza was 1940-1960, before I was born. This cruise is for senior citizens, not younger people 60 and younger. The casino was half the size of most cruise ships and people were crammed in there tightly. The food, yikes, the buffet was good, no complaints. The main dining room food was terrible, like cafeteria or hospital food, very disappointed, we left twice and went to the buffet. Sabitinis their heavily promoted specialty Italian restaurant was terrible, again hospital food at best. The steak restaurant was good, no complaints. The public bathroom areas were not spacious and not well attended or clean (this was mentioned in other reviews and we confirm). This disco was not well lighted up and the DJ played terrible music. It did not attract for long the younger people on this Christmas cruise. Internet worked excellent, was superior to all my experiences on any other cruise line ship. The medallion application was excellent. The only thing I did not like about the high tech application is they place your name on the door. I like my privacy. The elevators were a challenge, I had to run many times to catch one. Overall, this cruise is for seniors. Read Less
