We enjoyed the cruise, however we did not enjoyed the total confusion on the ship. They seemed unable to deal with a transatlantic cruise. The schedule was practically none existent and full of errors. We were never sure when the shows were going to take place and at what time.
During the day we were often unable to find anything of interest. There was only one lecturer (we are used to two or three). One day when we could find absolutely nothing of interest to do, we told customer service and were advised that we could go to bingo. We told her that bingo was not our favourite pastime, and she replied with "it's not our fault you don't like bingo."
We enjoyed the different shows in the the evening (Hairspray, aqua show, ice show etc.), once we had got the timetable sorted. However the music was always way too loud. The music around the ship was the same and was not of great interest. There were no individual singers or small groups in the bars around the ship (or we did not find them). The piano player was quite pleasant to listen to.
After three days the tv channels disappeared. This has never happened on any of our previous cruises. Since we did not receive a daily news sheet we had no idea what was going on in the world. We were supposed to have movies, but during the whole trip we had three different movies and one 3D movie for adults. There weren't even any movies on the tv to compensate for the lack of tv service.
The cruise director and the activities director were total morons. They had a programme in the mornings, but told us nothing of interest. They just made idiotic remarks and laughed at each other's jokes. We thought they were supposed to explain the programmes for the day, since the schedule told you very little about what was happening.
The restaurant staff were very good, although the food was often cold (too many dining rooms). There were always a number of officers around making sure everything ran smoothly.
 

Chaotic

We have been cruising for fifteen years now and have cruised with a variety of different cruise lines and on a variety of different size ships. The Oasis is the perfect ship on which to do a Trans Atlantic Cruise. It gave us plenty of time to explore the ship and all it had to offer.
The ship is huge, but because of the design, it never felt overwhelmimg. The boarding and debarkation process was one of the smoothest we have had. In spite of the number of people on board, there were never any crowds.
There was lots to do and to see, places to explore, and eating venues to try. Or, you could enjoy doing nothing but relax. The food in the main dining room was very good as was the food in the other no cost venues. We attempted to try them all, but even with 12 days, we couldn't do it all.
Only negatives i can think of were poor wifi ( which we understand will soon be upgraded), a big glitch in preboard entertainment scheduling, and lack of books in the library. None of these seemed very important to us as we were able to reschedule entertainment as soon as we boarded and I had plenty of reading material with me.
 

Can't do it all!

This was our 5th Royal Caribbean cruise and we (hubby and I) sailed with my sister and brother in law who were on their first cruise ever! - What a ship to pick for the first one.
Embarkation was smooth and we were onboard at Fort Everglades by 12.15PM so made our way to sign up for the drinks package, check our dining table and sit up on on the pool deck sipping cocktails. We followed this with a quick lunch at the Windjammer and by then the cabins were ready so off we went to unpack.
This was now the time to wander round the ship and try and get our bearings and we were certainly wowed and thought we would never find our way around. Muster followed then a trip to the Champagne bar to meet our cruise buddies before getting ready for sail away and early dinner.
Sail away was a bit disappointing as I expected a party atmosphere as we set off on the first fare paying passenger cruise to Europe but it was a bit of a let down to be honest.
We had a great window view dining table on deck 4 Opus, looked after by Veronica and Marley and they made a great team. I must say that this cruise was the most I have ever seen of a Head Waiter who as a visible presence constantly checked by to make sure that all was well and have a chat about the day without being intrusive.
Our sea days were relaxing with the Ocean like a mill pond and the temperatures high enough to laze by the pool watching the world go by.
We booked a deck 9 balcony cabin, starboard, midship and were looked after well by Beverley who kept our room immaculate at all times.
The pre-boarding booking system for shows was awful and a lot of us that managed to pre-book online had our shows changed before boarding. We had four shows changed to day 10, all at the same time and all clashing with our early dining time so had to try and change them onboard but had no chance to go to the comedy show.
The food was good across the ship, drinks and drinks service was excellent and staff were on the whole friendly and happy onboard. We didn't do any specialty restaurants and most of these never seemed busy while we were onboard.
Our first port of call was Malaga and we wandered around the port and into the town centre but after a few hours we got back onboard to enjoy the sunshine by the pool.
Disembarkation in Barcelona was fine, we took our own baggage off due to an early flight back to the UK and got a taxi costing 40 euros (including tip).
Overall we had a great time with family and friends onboard the biggest ship in the world BUT found myself comparing Oasis to the Indy (my favourite ship so far) and the Indy has my heart.
I found that the bigger ship loses that more personal touch and there are not so many places to sit in the evening and watch the Ocean. The Schooner bar has always been my favourite on Navigator and Indy but with no sea view and just a view into the promenade, it lost something in my opinion as did many other areas onboard.
I'm glad we sailed on the Oasis and it certainly has the WOW factor but would we do it again, I'm not sure.....
 

It Has The WOW But Not My Heart

Oasis of the seas was my 3rd Royal Caribbean ship to sail on but 10th ship overall, the cruise was from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona 1st September to 13th September, and I travelled with my brother and my parents. The cruise only had one port of call Malaga with 9 days at sea.
We had a one night pre cruise stay in Fort Lauderdale, hotel was selected by Royal Caribbean and it was a stone’s throw from the pier. The hotel was adequate although we were only there for a couple of hours due to the inbound flight being delayed we didn't get to the hotel till 01:30 in the morning and we were being picked up around 11:00 the following morning, the hotel breakfast was quite expensive roughly $100 for 4 adults, the food selection was adequate.
Embarkation
We were guided by the TV screens in the port terminal to a check in desk for our deck, all the odd deck numbers were directed to the left and the even and suites were directed to the right side of the terminal. The queues were moving quite quickly and we were on the ship in around 20 minutes from check in.
Cabin
We were staying in a balcony stateroom overlooking central park, we had 11243 and 11245 which were towards the rear of the ship and near the rear lifts.
The cabins have different layouts, in 11243 the couch was near the balcony and the beds were near the wardrobes. In 11245, the couch was near the wardrobes and the bed near the balcony. The latter being the better layout, as the couch is near the wardrobes there is little room and you have to sit on the bed to get items out of the wardrobe.
The rooms have a nice outlook especially at night as the park is lit up, in the daytime the balcony is quite noisy as the kids pool is above the balconies and they also have live bands up on the deck.
Entertainment
Oasis of Dreams – This show takes place in the Aqua Theatre which is situated on Deck 6 on the boardwalk. The show is very good, although I found the story difficult to follow, the show could have done with a synopsis beforehand or somebody narrating the show.
Hairspray – This show is in the main theatre Opal Theatre which is situated on decks 4&5. This show was excellent and by far the best show we watched on the cruise. Royal Caribbean are replacing this show after the dry dock with Cats. The cast were excellent, although the main female lead didn’t have a strong enough voice and failed to hit some of the high notes.
Come Fly with me - The show was in the main theatre – This had aerial acrobat’s, singers and dancers, a very good show and if you’re sitting in the first 3 rows the cast swing off the stage above your head. Although it was only 45 minutes it did tend to be a little repetitive after a while.
Frozen in time – This show took place on the ice rink in Studio B on deck 4. This show was excellent and the story was Hans Christian Anderson and his children stories.
Food
Main Dining Room
I can understand why Royal Caribbean are doing away with this on the new ships, we were on the first sitting and there were a lot of empty seats.
The service was excellent and the waiters and assistant waiters do work hard and go out of their way to ensure the guests are happy. We ate in the main dining room every other night, and the menu some nights wasn't that good, one night pizza was on the menu. There was a lack of variety and some nights it was difficult to pick something to eat.
Every night, they had a pianist playing although with the noise in the dining room you couldn't hear him. This changed towards the end of the cruise when we had a pianist and a violinist playing and the music could be heard above the noise.
Chops
There is a cover charge of $35 per person, we ate in Chops one night as we tend to do when aboard Royal Caribbean. Although the food and service was excellent, the ambiance wasn't as good as Independence of the seas and Adventure of the seas. The main feature of Chops is to have Fillet Mignon, this was cooked perfectly and the deserts were very good as well.
Izmui
This is an a’la carte restaurant and rather than a cover charge your pay for what you eat. The signature dish was hot stones, this is where they serve a hot stone and you cook your meal yourself. The food was average and overpriced for what you got, and we would think twice about eating here again.
Park Cafe
This was situated in Central Park and for me this was one of the best eating venues, we ate here most days for lunch. They serve Salad and you can select your own toppings and dressing, you can also get a sandwich once ordered they give you a number and the sandwich is then served to you. There wasn't a lot of seating but there is plenty of seats in the park for you to sit in.
Solarium
We ate in here a few times, this was the healthy eating venue and the food was adequate although it didn't suit my tastes.
Johnny Rockets
We ate here once for breakfast, we were not impressed with the breakfast here. Although the breakfast was complementary there was a lack of choice.
Seafood Shack
This is a bit like Izumi where you pay for what you eat. While we were looking at the menu we were given nachos and a dip. We all had starters and a main the food was nice but everything on the menu was fried. It was relatively cheap as well roughly $60 for 4 people with drinks as well as starters and main courses.
Windjammer
This was the main eating place on the ship and most people eat here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There was a wide selection of food and the staff were always helpful and would get your drinks for you. For the amount of people of the ship, there never seemed to be a problem getting a seat.
Ship
The ship can hold 5400 people (double Occupancy), on this particular cruise it wasn't full and had roughly 4500 people aboard. The ship never felt crowded and we never experienced any queuing apart from going in to the shows and this was only approx. 30-40 people.
A tip for when you are trying to find the front of the ship, on all of the stateroom doors the sign showing the number has an arrow on it. The maps by the lifts also has a curved edge showing the front of the ship.
There are screens by the lift that show the map of the ship and give you directions as well. When you search for dining options on these screens and also your tv in stateroom they give an indication of how busy they are in a traffic light system although not sure how reliable these are.
The best part of the ship is Central Park, it’s a lovely quiet area where you can sit out both night and day. One part of the ship that is not used much is the boardwalk, often you walk down there and it’s completely empty. The only time the boardwalk is busy is before and after any shows at the aqua theater.
One of the best bars, was the rising tide bar. It goes from the promenade on deck 5 to central park deck 8. It takes roughly 30 mins to go up and down, and varies in speed but generally it goes quiet slow.
Overall my experience on the ship was good, however for me the ship never gave me the wow factor that Royal Caribbean had promised.
 

Worlds biggest ship but lacks the wow!

We were fortunate enough to sail on Oasis of the Seas' first transatlantic cruise. The weather and seas could not have been better. Many have already commented that the ship is so large one can always find a quite spot in spite of 5000 passengers and 2000 crew sailing along with you. Our spot was after if the ship on either decks 11, 12 or 14. We found that the various food venues affered a variety of foods and dining experiences. We generally preferred the dining room when we just wanted a leisurely meal; although we ate at several of the other venues. The Park Avenue Cafe was usually crowded and had the feel of a cafeteria. The Wipe out cafe and the a solarium Bistro had the advantage of sitting outdoors in one's bathing suit. Personally I found the food selection in the dining room to be less appealing on the Oasis compared to our cruise in March '14 on the Freedom of the Seas. The Windjammer also had a very different setup from Freedom. There were plenty of choices, but it took a while to figure out where the foods were that we preferred. It was not our favorite place to eat.
Because we were traveling east, we had to account for 6 hours of lost time before we reached Barcelona. The hours were subtracted for 6 consecutive days at noon. Everyone was relieved to get that extra hour back before the end of the voyage.
We went to just about all the evening entertainment and found it to be top notch. Only one night would be considered typical cruise entertainment. I assume because this was Oasis' first transatlantic there was a great deal of confusion with scheduling reservations for shows. Hopefully they have their system worked out for the return trip in Oct.
We had signed up through roll call to sit with a group of 15 people for our evening dining.. After about 6 days we decided we wanted a quieter venue and was able to change our table to the main floor next to the piano. This was a good move for us since we finished out a table for 6 which allowed for easier conversation.
We only docked at one port on our journey. That was Malaga. We chose to stay in port and ride the hop on hop off bus. It was easy to find since one of its stops was just a block north of the location the dock shuttle stopped. Purchase of tickets was at the stop. Because my husband uses a walker we did not get off at any of the stops, but ther seemed to be several that would have been interesting.
Our cabin was very adequate. We found the storage space ample, and with the entry door opening out, we were able to leave my husbands walker near the door and out of the way. We had a balcony on the starboard side. We didn't want to sit in the sun, so that worked fine for us. We had shade a good deal of the day because of the overhang above the 14th deck.
Embarkation and disembarkation both went very smoothly. The longest wait we had was waiting for a taxi in Barcelona getting off the ship. My husband simply sat on his walker with the luggage near the taxi stand, and I walked through the queue.
All in all, it was a great cruise. The ship is beautiful with lots of activities to keep one occupied for so many days at sea.

On a clear day you can see forever

This was my first trip on a Oasis class ship and I was well pleased. Took RCI transfer from FLL to ship, a "walk aboard" embarkation (very quick), many eating area open for lunch, to Cabin at 1300, luggage arrived by 1500, and off to enjoy the ship for the next 12 nights. As someone who really only likes small, quiet ships, - and is usually disturbed by the :"noise" on RCI, I was most pleasantly surprised. It is amazing how well organized everything is and how, other than at Guest Services, well people are "spread out" about this huge ship. Unfortunately there was always lines at Guest Services, even at 0700 in the morning. The Concierge Lounge was also jammed, as were the designated overflow areas, as there were 600+ Diamond Plus's and up aboard. Had a wonderful crossing; however I will probably NOT cruise Oasis class on their seven day trips, for it is impossible (I think) to do and see everything aboard in ONLY seven days. Shows - Hairspray, Aquatic, etc. were excellent - Guest entertainers were - as usual - so so. Disembarkation in Barcelona was as efficient and quick as I have ever seen

Magnificient Ship for a LONG cruise

First, as an engineer myself, I have to say that the ship is indeed a great expression of what engineers are able to accomplish. Especially the central park is very impressive and to me it was a place of inspiration and an oasis of tranquility especially after midnight when most people were at sleep.
Because of the size of the ship we did not even notice that we were moving and the sea was not always calm.
This is definitely on the positive side, as well as the entertainment that was offered. However a cruise is not only about the size of the ship and the entertainment it is a lot more.
The Oasis was a disappointment in many areas and I will talk about this during my review.
Our group consisted of 7 Germany, all from one family, ages from 6 to 47. A Central Park Balcony stateroom and Royal Family Suite was our home on this cruise. My wife, our daughter and me are not new to cruises. We've already been on cruise ships from different cruise companies including 2 other RCL ships, Aida, Oceania, Disney and one cruise on the NCL getaway just prior to boarding the Oasis of the Seas. For the rest in our party the Oasis was the 2 cruise after Getaway. This matters as they can only compare the Oasis to Getaway.
For the 3 of us, the experienced cruisers, the best overall experience we had on Disney Dream and the Oceania ships (Riviera and Regatta). For the rest of our group NCL Getaway wins over the Oasis of the Seas.
Reviewing the overall experience on Oasis I must say we were disappointed. We encountered disorganized people at guest relations and other places, a cabin that was under our expectation, poor overall dining experience with very few exceptions.
The buffet in Windjammer appeared to be the same day after day, although the quality of food is ok. It was also limited in what was offered. Sometimes it was even better than what we got in Opus where on several occasions we left when we saw the menu after we were seated. Can you imagine that on a 12 days cruise the main restaurant only offered 2 different menues for lunch and only 3 for dinner? I still have the waiters word in my ears: "our dish of the day is pasta marinara" which was good but hey my 6 year old can make a good pasta marinara.
Breakfast in the windjammer was the same every day, very limited offerings. Other places on the ship had other items none of the restaurants had all we wanted. For example I had to go to the solarium to get some of the food and finish in Windjammer with the rest. My wife wanted her own created omelet, it was not available in windjammer. Who wants to wander around on such a large ship to have a complete meal?
Looking at the cabin, it was disappointing in many aspects. To me the interior design was done by a drunken interior designer, there is no way a sober person with taste would combine colors and materials in such a way. The armchairs were dirty, nothing that can be fixed by cleaning. In the cabin an undefined smell was omnipresent, something like dust of dirty carpets or curtains. The cabin steward is not to blame for it, he did his job very well. However he noticed it since every time when he made our cabin he had to spray an odor, trying to kill one bad smell with another bad smell. I still don't know which of the 2 bad smells I prefer.
The veranda had 2 lounge chairs with cushions, one of those you rather don't want to touch, it felt like these were not cleaned, ever. Or maybe just bad quality? The floor of the veranda was dirty, it became apparent on the bottom of the foot or on our socks if we had these on when going out to enjoy the view. The veranda floor was cleaned only once, well I have to say it was not cleaning, all that was done is water it and let the sun dry it.
The noise in the cabin was louder than on other ships, noticeable louder when compared with NCL Getaway. Especially in the 2-nd bedroom. On the positive side I have to say that the cabin was large enough for us 3, we had enough towels, it was cleaned properly.
As I mentioned before the entertainment was great, we loved the shows. But this is why we selected Oasis Of the Seas for the intercontinental voyage.
We had problems with the table tennis equipment and the air hockey machines. I've never seen table tennis equipment in such a bad condition. Out of the 6 table there was not a single one in good condition. Most of the tables had curved surfaces as if people were dancing on them, one of the tables had a whole and a sharp piece of the tables coating was bend in the air (where my little one managed to hurt her hand).
The 2 kids in our party liked to play air hockey. The machines were so crapy, we spent hours in asking maintenance to come and fix because the air hockey puck was stuck or other malfunctioning. One of the 2 arcade rooms was too noisy. Given this rooms attract mainly kids this is not acceptable.
Service in general was good but not always professional. For one issue with a booking in our folio that we did not make we had to go to guest services. We were given the impression that all will be fixed shortly. 4 days later it still was not and I had to call them a few times before it got fixed.
We had my time dining and we were not alway assigned the same table. On our last 2 cruises on RCL we did.
The touch panels at the large displays were supposed to give guidance to what is available on the ship and for orienatation (locate cabin etc.) This is a great idea. One can also check the menu in the Opus restaurant before entering. However when I looked at the menu one day and we decided it is worth to try, we were surprised that in the restaurant something else was offered. When I asked why it is so, it took them a while to figure out that the display does not display today's menu but a random menu. Well he could not answer why on day 7 of the cruise the first menu I can see in the display is the one from day x. Would not it make sense to see today's menu?
As suite guests we were allowed to go into the concierge lounge. At the time where there was free food and drinks it was very busy and hard to find a place to sit. Since our cabin was not far we opted to take the food and the drinks to our cabin so not a big deal for us. the concierge was not a help for us, the electronic UNO card machine he rented out to us was broken. How come he did not check?
Embarkation and disembarkation was quick, as expected.
In Malaga we explored the city on our own.
In summary I can say that the Oasis of the seas was the right ship for a transatlantic. There are enough things to do on so many sea days. We enjoyed the entertainment, not so much the food. We were disappointed with our (expensive!) cabin. After the 3 cruise on different RCL ships we know that the shows are still great as well as the friendliness of most staff. However food was better on our former cruises. As I mentioned we sailed with NCL Getaway before this cruise and we would go with NCL again, but not with RCL.

Will not go again with RCL

This will be a quick review of our Oasis of the Seas W. Caribbean cruise with ship only points. My wife and I have sailed on RCCL 5 times and other lines 7 times. This was our first sailing on the Oasis Class. This time around we sailed with our 10 month old. We found the ship to be very kid friendly. There was plenty to do even for a child this young. We utilized the Royal Babies and Tots nursery and found that to be excellent. Very clean, and well-staffed. The ship itself needs some work, I guess the amount of people is taking a toll on her. I found the ship to be easy to navigate, except waiting for elevators at dinner time. We were on deck 7 and our dining floor was 4. We waited one time for 20 minutes for an elevator that was not packed. Keep in mind there are about 17 decks so by the time the cars reached 7, they were packed. The cabin itself was OK, it was a standard balcony. The cabin had just enough room for the three of us. The balcony was plenty big though, Cabin steward was good especially after I had issues with the room. The mini-fridge is basically useless, it never got below 47 degrees. We had it replaced on day three. The bed was in need of replacing, several bumpy spots and very uneven. The couch in the room had stains and basically looked dirty. A/C in the cabin never did anything, regardless of where you set the thermostat the temp never changed. It was constantly 72-74 in the room. The bathroom only has shampoo and the cheap made in china soap bars. We had to request shower gel and lotion. The food was mediocre in the main dining room. Food on the Liberty last year seemed much better. Maybe this is due to the overwhelming number of mouths they have to feed. We tried the buffet twice, it was lousy…. Chops Grille provided us with the only decent meals of the cruise, with a $35.00pp charge. Sorrento’s pizza is garbage now compared to other ships pizza options…Room service was quick and decent.
We did enjoy the entertainment as well as the Globe and Atlas English Pub. All of the public areas seemed clean and well maintained, only our cabin had issues. Will we sail on RCCL again?…yes, Oasis Class…absolutely NOT.
We enjoyed the other RCCL ships we sailed, this seems like they just added more cabins and gimmicks to this class of floating hotel……
 

Too big and too many people.

The Oasis of the Seas was a great cruise. Rooms were immaculate. Staff very attentive and friendly. Every single cruise staff member I dealt with was very pleasant and helpful. They all said hello in the hallways too. Lines at guest services were a bit long but they had officers try and help people while on the lines as well. You do need to follow up with your credits of cancellations of tours and specialty dining. Maybe I am just impatient but I did want everything ironed out before leaving.
For a cruise ship that had 6000 people on board, you would never ever know it. You never waited on lines anywhere really. Easy layout. I get lost so easily and did not get lost once on this ship. Food was always available. The shore excursion process was a snap, organized and well planned out. I went June 22 2013 so school was out. I always found a lounge chair at the pool. That wasn't the case on Freedom of the seas during the Spring break. I like that they clearly say that if you leave your chair empty for longer than 30 minutes, your stuff would be taken to the towel station. I don't know if this helped with the availability but I am glad for that. Big pet peeve of mine is those that put their towels out in the morning and gone for the whole day. Lots of pools and hot tubs. Dinner food was OK, good enough. Waiter Nuthoo was fantastic. They could have better menus but I do have picky eater teens. OMG the wipe out cafe was great for a fast grab. That was a pleasant surprise, located right near the 2 flow riders. The windjammer was above 1 floor and the breakfast and lunch was great.

Fantastic cruise

We went on the holiday (Dec 24-31) cruise on the Oasis with my 3 boys (18-23yo) and my parents in their 80's.  It was wonderful.

The best part was the crew. Everyone we passed in the hall or anyone we had contact with had a smile on their face. They made eye contact, said hello and asked how they could help. What wonderful training RCI has for their staff!

The ship is big and we had 6200 passengers on board but honestly we never really felt crowded. There are so many venues to hang out and people do so many different things that there are no crowds. Even the check in at the terminal was incredibly efficient. (btw, we got on at 11am. Don't believe the 2pm arrival time. You can start your vacation 3 hours earlier!).

The only time we had an issue with crowds was waiting for an elevator at dinner. That took quite some time but I can think of no other time we felt overwhelmed with people.

Again, the staff was great. My dad was having trouble walking around so we asked for a wheelchair. With no questions asked, we received one from Guest Relations.  When it didn't work well, one of the cabin attendants noticed (not our attendant) and called on his walkie talkie and another one was sent to the room.

The dining room food and service was wonderful. We ate there every night. Our waiter was great and entertained us with card tricks on a few nights. Amazing staff!

The nice thing about the Oasis is all of the other restaurants available. My parents really liked going to the Park Cafe and just hanging out in the Central Park Area. It was very relaxing. A couple nights they had a violin and piano duo playing. It was very classy.

In Labadee we went on the wave runners (our third time). It was great. The instructor/leader was really funny and made it lots of fun. A really fast ride!



The shows were all top notch: Hairspray, Come Fly with Me, the Ice show and the comedy show.  The Headliner was "The Nelsons" which I didn't think was quite up to the standards of the other shows. Half of the show was just video montages of their father, Ricky Nelson.

All in all, a wonderful ship. Brand New. Tons to do. Great food and shows. Most of all, a wonderful, caring crew!! We would go again without question.
