"The two things that I particularly enjoyed on the NS, and was looking forward to on the Oosterdam, was the food quality and the Music Walk, specifically Lincoln Center Stage and BB Kings.Main dining room (dinners): I thought the menus offered a good variety and each night there were several dishes that appealed to me...."Read More

1-10 of 13 Holland America Line Oosterdam Cruise Reviews for Senior to the Transatlantic from Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)
We chose this transatlantic cruise and this ship because we wanted transportation to Europe, did NOT want to visit a lot of ports, wanted to relax at sea prior to a heavy sightseeing itinerary once we arrived, and for the entertainment and food advertised.
We were wholly disappointed. We were disappointed to the point that we would not want to travel on Holland America again.
The embarkation ...
First TA, right fare for an aft facing cabin on deck 8. Paid for HIA since no longer can bring on drinks. I did not get what I paid for. Changes were made to inclusions after I paid.wifi issues- no compensation, excursion cancelled- no appropriate substitution I was advised by shore excursion staff- so forfeited $120 OBC- would not let me use it for anything else and non refundable.
Could not ...
This was a 14 day trans-atlantic from Ft Lauderdale to Rome with 4 ports: two in the Azores and two in Spain. I've done over 50 cruises and about 10 were on HAL. I've always liked HAL's vibe - which is to appeal to seasoned travelers who appreciate discovering new places. I like days at sea and purposely picked this smaller, older ship after being on the Nieuw Statendam last summer (whose ...
We just got off the ship after a 3 week transatlantic cruise from Ft Lauderdale to Barcelona.
The Oosterdam is becoming quite dilapidated. We encountered many serious infrastructure issues.
Firstly, there were many leaks that marred our cruising experience. The Lido dining room had water soaked carpeting that passengers were forced to walk on to get to the seating area.
We also ...
We loved the itinerary and decided to book for this reason. We thought the ship was tired looking in any area that was not renovated by the time in Dry Dock. The new areas were beautiful but did not do justice to the fact that the ship was not ready. The pool was closed for the first 2 days out of port with painting and drilling going on. Shops were also closed. We had painting continuing for the ...
My husband and I had never been to Europe, so we chose this cruise to get a good "sample" of countries.
The 8 days at sea sailing across the Atlantic were relaxing and a great way to start our trip. The Oosterdam is a beautiful, elegant ship. Our cabin was wonderful (see below).
We loved all the ports except Huelva, Spain. If you dock there, you might want to take an excursion to ...
My partner and myself had wanted to do the North Atlantic to Northern Europe but when this deal came along, we couldn't resist. Unfortunately my partner lost his passport on day of sailing and missed the departure. Big Hint here: First thing to do is to call Holland America and advise them. They will then try to help you get to next port and will do everything necessary to help you avoid large ...
This was our third transatlantic crossing with Holland America and our favorite (the others were April 2014 on the Noordam Lauderdale/Barcelona and Oct 2014 on the Nieu Amsterdam Barcelona/Lauderdale). This was a short-notice decision, taking advantage of an incredible fare published a month before sailing, for a balcony stateroom just off mid-ship, We booked directly with the cruise line and ...
Many of us were surprised to find that this was a big band cruise with the "Harry James Orchestra" playing nightly. Those who like big bands were in their glory with the 12 instrumental musicians, a bandleader and a female vocalist. HAL really nailed music on this one, with a great group creating Nashville sounds in the BB King club, "The Band" in the Ocean bar, the Adagio Duo, and the piano bar. ...
We chose this cruise because the perks that went along with it were very good. We also took a transatlantic last year and enjoyed it, so we were game for another one. We specifically wanted to end up in Rome as we had never been there before. Although the ship was gearing up for drydock refurbishing and there were workers already on the ship, it did not impact our vacation in any way, except ...
