Great cruise to the Canal
"The Tamarind had good food but we had a problem with a waitress.During our meal this other waitress whom I saw waiting on a table in another section was asked something by a diner and she looked around her area and then left and went somewhere then I saw her come back through our area and as she passed our table she stopped and looked at our table and started to walk off but turned back and walked over to our table and picked up every packet of Splenda, which wasn't many maybe three or four and walked off with them and took them to the table I originally saw her talking to...."Read More

HAL offers terrific service, but needs improvement

Review for a Caribbean - Southern Cruise on Eurodam

The ship was clean and beautiful, everything seemed to be working, and the service was absolutely fabulous. The Eurodam is a little older now, but still very nice. On service, standouts were our cabin steward who helped our disabled mother very much in her suite, the management in the Tamarind, who went above and beyond, and the disembarkation help we received because we were traveling with a ...

On par with the Jewel of the Seas

The Eurodam and the Jewel of the seas are almost identical in size. The Jewel has a more customer friendly central area that can be used to host music and dance events, too. It has a larger outdoor pool with far more sunbeds than the Eurodam. The Eurodam has a more enclosed, covered pool area as if it was designed for overcast, chilly North Sea sailings. The Jewel also has a solarium type warm ...

I swear that cruise lines encourage (or at least allow) employees to slack off, or more likely, weaponize incompetence on the first and last days of the cruise. After a smooth embarkation we were aghast that not only was the maître d’ not available to fix the incorrect dining assignment we had been given, but we were told to stand in two long lines that were both the wrong line. It turns out ...

Losing its competitive edge

Review for a Caribbean - Western Cruise on Eurodam

The Eurodam is a stately, well-kept ship. We very much enjoyed its classic ambiance and lovely public spaces. Embarkation was quick and flawless. Our rear verandah stateroom was immaculately appointed and our room stewards were top notch. The main dining room and Tamarind restaurant offered impressive fare. But our experience included three major disappointments, and as such this was the ...

This was my first cruise since COVID, and all cruise ships may now be the same, but I really missed all the small niceties on this ship. We sailed with a group of 10 and were not able to secure any kind of set dining time, despite having a 2 year old in our group. This made each dinner time unnecessarily stressful, standing in line for "open dining" and hoping for a table within the next couple ...

11 day cruise Ft Lauderdale. , balcony cabin. Boarding - Easy. Cabin Crew - Great, Cabin - Clean well maintained. Dining - main room #1 - first night given table 85 - directly in front of waiters' station - when I sit down for dinner I want to relax - that table with it's constant clattering of dishes, glassware, silverware and waiters coming and going made that impossible. From night two on was ...

Solid HAL cruise as long as you have a realistic expectation

Review for a Panama Canal & Central America Cruise on Eurodam

My wife and I just returned from a 10-day Panama Canal Cruise from HAL Eurodam. We flew down to FLL on Friday March 24. It’s the tail end of Spring Break and every hotel near the airport was $300 per night or more. I booked a room using Marriott Bonvoy points at Towneplace Suites Ft Lauderdale West. It’s a 25-minute drive from the airport, but even if we had booked a hotel near the ...

We had a Signature Suite, therefore, we embarked first and had to go to the 9th floor deck for lunch buffet. You are not allowed to select your own foods, you are served by the personal. The buffet had a lot of choices; including ice cream and desserts. The Erodam is a circle public area which you have to walk/elevator to each floor. The best entertainment was a live band each night at ...

We enjoyed this 10 night cruise to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal

We chose this cruise because we wanted a January getaway to warmer climes than included the Caribbean with a focus on the Panama Canal. We booked early when this cruise was thinly booked and received a good price and a upper floor veranda upgrade in the process. We have travel with HAL in Alaska on a slightly smaller but similar ship and were very familiar with the ship's layout. The Good: ...

We decided to try two things we have not yet done before, and that is a Panama itinerary and sail on Holland America. We are in our late 60's and have cruised on Carnival, RCCL, Celebrity & NCL. We have heard HAL caters to the more senior cruisers (like us). That is evident in their not including a lot of the activities such as water slides, rock climbing, laser tag, etc. I think most people ...
